LACAJOU Bakery and Cafe
5020 Woodminster Ln, Oakland, CA 94602, United States
Really bummed to be put in this position because this is a local restaurant and I was happy to support them despite regularly missing items from orders (I assumed it was because I was using a third party app, but I digress).Today, I tried to use a coupon I was given via email, and stated on the bottom that it was valid both in store and online (via their square) and would expire 5/23 (today is 5/22). It did not work online, so I tried calling in the order. When I went to redeem the coupon, I was told that the coupon code did not exist and was therefore not valid. Confused, I asked if the email did not come from L'Acajou and was told “it clearly did”, but he was unable to do anything about it. I then asked to speak with someone who could do something about it, and was told no. I then explained that, in my understanding, coupons coming from a company needed to be honored and made a joke about not remembering the legal code (realizing now that it's likely to be misinterpreted and for that I'm sorry). Eventually the owner showed up, and while I did get the coupon applied, the owner was unnecessarily rude during the whole interaction, seeming to imply that I was wrong for wanting a coupon that appeared to be valid and came from them to be honored. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth that I would have dropped had the owner not continued to deflect any responsibility for the confusion (keeping in mind this all stemmed from a coupon that came from them, and they admitted to coming from them), which is why I took the time to share this here.Go if you would like, the food is good! Check orders before you walk out if doing takeaway, and don't try to use coupons if you do go. This experience means that I won't be going back personally. Owner probably says good riddance, which is fine, because it sorta bolsters my point about the whole experience of being told a coupon they created wouldn't be honored and why it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Nicks Pizza and Bakery Made in Oakland
6400 Shattuck Ave., Oakland, CA 94609, United States
Ive had been all over the country and Ive been to high-end spots and low and spots and Ive had the tragedy of pain for a slice of pizza for 14 bucks and Ive done the questionable thing Ive paid for a slice of pizza for a buck.So I saw this spot and told the kids. This is where were going to eat lunch now. There is no parking so we had to park in the residential street parking which wasnt that difficult. We just got lucky I think because it was a cold afternoon but there was tons of outdoor seating and let me tell you when I saw the prices. I was kind of skeptical but the place is super clean, super organized and everything is really well labeled. But when we got our pizzas we ordered probably like five slices. But they ended up giving us like double the slices and you know my partner never questions the price of anything. So he thought paying 40 bucks for five slices or whatever it was was fair and I just thought well well take these slices home and this will be our dinner. These slices were phenomenal. I sat here outside in the cold eating it and thinking to myself. I could have my sons birthday party here. These slices are so good. I could convince my family who lives 100 miles away to come here to have a slice of pizza outside on a patio table and you know what theyre going to b**** about it until they have that slice and when they eat it, theyre going to be like. Yep, it was worth the 100 mile drive.Ive been to New York and had pizza. Ive been to Chicago and had pizza. Ive been to Detroit and had pizza and let me tell you Im just so baffled and just blinded and so excited that there is a place that has such good pizza and it is so close to my work that Im literally like shaking and crying because like I have the opportunity to have good pizza in my life and its such a good price like a slice of pepperoni was like four bucks. I took a picture of it. I dont remember it right now as Im writing but all the prices were fair.Bottom line, this is good pizza. You need to come fight the parking come walk. Do what you got to do to come here but this is good pizza.

I was excited to see that there were more vegan options around nearby. However, I think operations need to be smoothed out because my order was supposed to be ready sooner than I got it. I overheard the kitchen staff saying something about skipping orders. I also think they need a better check-in procedure for customers. Because folks were just lining up and folks who have checked in on their order ware not asked to wait to the side so you're just waiting for them to leave before you get to check in. No staff came out to ask who else was there to pick up or place an order. Nothing. Just waiting. I hope the food is worth it. I'll update after I've tried it.For anyone ordering for delivery through any of the delivery services, it's not your delivery person's fault your order was late. A DoorDash driver waited 20 minutes for an order and was told only one item was ready and it would be another 15 minutes. It would probably accurately be 30 minutes on top of that 20.I really hope the food is worth the wait and order 1 hour in advance next time.So I tried the food.Order:Vegan Curry Chicken with PelauVegan Roti WrapVegan Jamaican PattySpicy DoublesCurry was good. Pelau was different. I think the peas threw me off. The coconut was nice, but I'm not sure it complemented the peas. The roti was a huge dough and there was a lot of folded dough underneath. You're better off ordering a side of protein rather than adding into the wrap. The patty was just one for $6, good flavor. Size of an open hand with fingers together. I'm not sure if I can validate their price point. The Doubles, the size of your palm. Good flavor. Tasty. Also $6 and hard to validate the price point. The plantains taste more like bananas than plantains. They were sweeter and softer than plantains.I don't recommend the pineapple vinaigrette. It was lackluster. At this point I'm on the fence about ordering again. I wasn't blown away.

Dimond Cafe

Mom and Pop vibes with very quaint (but clean) area to eat. We live in the neighborhood and are really happy we decided to try this place out. The owners/workers speak Spanish and English and they always chat in Spanish with some customers which is sweet. We have only been here a few times but everytime we come there is at least one regular who comes in and the person behind the counter remembers their order and asks them if they want the usual? Its really that community vibe I wish we had even more of in diamond district. Plus the food is really tasty. If you order something with bacon or avocado in it- the ingredients are generous and delicious.

Mariposa Baking Company
5427 Telegraph Ave d3, Oakland, CA 94609, United States
I love this bakery so much. I was diagnosed with Celiacs disease in 2005. In 15 years I have consumed more gluten free bread, pasta, and baked goods than most. When I first went gluten free we used to have to order products sight unseen and untested over the internet and it would come packed in coolers with dry ice. Haha, so much of it was nasty. Then I found Mariposa. MARIPOSA IS THE BEST GLUTEN FREE BAKERY EVER! DELICIOUS BREAD THAT ACTUALLY TASTES AND FEELS LIKE BREAD, NOT FLAVORLESS CARDBOARD!! BAKED TREATS THAT ARE TASTY AND DONT FEEL LIKE SAND OR STYROFOAM IN YOUR MOUTH. The frosting is delicious on all the cupcakes and cakes. Cookies are crunchy and just right. I really love the molasses ginger cookies. I wish they made a peanut butter cookie but I understand accommodating peanut allergies so they are cool like that. I do wish they make a coffee cake without walnuts!!! I am ONLY allergic to Walnuts and not being able to eat their coffee cake makes me so so sad, but it looks and smells delicious. The ham and cheese pastry pockets are AMAZING!!! I LOVE THE FAUX RYE, I use it for patty melts and reubens at home. The sandwich batard is *chefs kiss*. The baguettes are the right combo of crunchy outside and soft inside, my family likes to slice them up, lightly toast them and eat them with melted raclette cheese on Xmas. We have used Mariposa bread to make stuffing at Thanksgiving and Turkey sandwiches. My wife and I even had a Mariposa cake at our wedding!! They even have some breads which dont have eggs or diary, so if you are vegan or allergic to those you can still eat them!! They used to make rosemary pull apart dinner rolls which were fragrant and so good with butter. They still make dinner rolls, just not rosemary, and they are just as tasty with soup or as a side with butter. Also, the focaccia is to die for. If they have it, get it and eat it slightly warmed up with GOOD OLIVE OIL. Just trust me and eat their baked goods you wont regret it!

Ediths Pie
412 22nd St, Oakland, CA 94612, United States
Can't say enough good things about Edith's Pie. I have been a longtime follower of their IG page, even though I live out of state. Today, I finally found myself in Oakland and made Edith's my first stop upon landing. Everything about this place by far exceeded my expectations. I came in on a Saturday around lunch time by myself and was surprised to find it not crowded and with ample seating (a win for me!) The customer service is A+ and every person working here has the friendliest demeanor. Lastly, the PIES… wow, by far the best tasting pies and quiches I have ever had in my entire life — not an exaggeration! The savory pies are so flavorful and the sweet pies are the perfect amount of sweetness. You can truly taste the skill & passion put into these pies.I will rave about Edith's to everyone I know. My new favorite food spot in the Bay Area!

I bought a cake there, and in general it was good however when I made my cake order I asked if they made chocolate tres leches they said yes, so I placed my order and when I took it home to my surprise it wasnt tres leches it was a regular chocolate cake, when I called to ask them they told me they did not make chocolate tres leches, so of course I was not happy, I feel that thats what they could of told me when I first called ans asked, instead they sold me a cake I didnt ask for. The price was high but again the cake even though it was not what I asked for it was really good.

Noahs NY Bagels
3351 Lakeshore Ave, Oakland, CA 94610, United States
RACIST OWNER UPSET I WOULDNT ACCEPT BURNT BAGELS!I just had the most horrible customer service experience in over 20 years of patroning Noahs Bagels on Lakeshore Ave., Oakland, CA. I placed an order through the app for two plain bagels toasted with butter. When I arrived, I asked for my order to be double toasted (since I noticed it wasnt ready yet and thats a customization that you cant specify through the app).At this time I learned that my order had somehow been lost or was never received, so the associate got the owner to address the issue. Unfortunately for me, my phone died at the exact moment I was trying to show the owner that I had placed and paid for my order through the app.The owner said more than once, while shrugging his shoulders and waving me off, well, theres nothing I can do for you (even though mind you, I was a customer who had already paid for her order). There was no attempt on his end to investigate the missing order in the system or take other measures to fix or determine the cause of the issue. Instead, he seemed to immediately take issue with me, and it felt as if he thought I was lying - he treated me accordingly and dismissed my requests to find a remedy. It wasnt until I stated the exact amount I remember paying for the order, that he begrudgingly turned around and seemingly decided to proceed to make my order. He never verbally mentioned at all that he would fulfill my order. So (being unsure whether or not the owner was making my order), I proceeded back to my car, with my two young children in tow, to let my phone charge for a bit so I could prove I paid for my order. When I returned and showed the owner the email confirmation of my order that was on my phone from 30 minutes earlier, he simply pointed and said your bagels are over there. There was no apology for the confusion, or for the fact that their system/app failed, or for the delayed time it took me to get my order. I thanked him anyway, took my bagels, my kids, and left. However, when I got to my car and opened my bag, I discovered that my bagels were COMPLETELY BURNT (i.e. charred black on top). I wish I had of taken a picture to show that this was not a subjective preference issue. My food, by any objective and reasonable persons standard, was burnt.I unloaded my kids from the car (again), walked back into the store, and simply requested that my order be fixed. The owner began to berate me, saying dismissively that I asked for double toasted. I agreed that I did ask for double toasted; I did not ask for my bagel to be burnt. In all my years of ordering my bagels double toasted, they had never been served to me burnt as this owner had done. The owner continued to berate me in public and in front of other patrons, while gesticulating with his arms, saying that I couldnt be pleased and that we toast it once for you, its too light! We toast it twice, now its burnt! Make up your mind! We gave you what you asked for! I physically opened the bagel and asked him if it looked burnt to him and he agreed that it did. I said again that I asked for double toasted; not burnt. I told him that I couldnt imagine any customer ordering or accepting a burnt bagel that looked like mine. I also told him that I, a paying customer, should not have to go back-and-forth to request that Noahs fix my food that was served to me burnt. The owner eventually remade my bagels, but I wonder if I wasnt a black women, would this owner (an older white man) have given me the same lack of customer service after losing my order and serving me burnt bagels?I am absolutely horrified at the lack of customer service. From being dismissed and waved-off because Noahs lost my order that I placed and paid for through their app, to being berated for daring to ask that my order be re-prepared after I was served burnt bagels (quite literally), to being told by the owner that my two decades of patronage meant nothing. ZERO STARS!

This is the perfect place to study, get work done, meet with friends, and enjoy some delicious yemeni food. im so glad i stumbled across it and i will be coming back as often as i can! i can see this becoming a neighborhood fixture, if it hasnt alreadysome things to note as a patron:- be aware that one cup of coffee here (black) will set you back around $4 while a more expensive drink can set you back $8. These prices are a more than I expect in this area but the ambience of the cafe and coffee flavor somewhat makes up for it- One gender neutral bathroom which is always clean- Menu includes pot service tea, traditional yemeni hot beverages, and american style espresso drinks. As far as food there are a variety of baked goods varying in price-Good wifi connection which is free for customers-Mixed seating including a cozy conversation pit style seating area and tables. All except one high table are wheelchair accesible-Outdoor seating is three large wooden tables with bench seating. The area is shaded and you can still get wifi connection. This area is dog/pet friendly but the inside is not (though I dont think they would mind if you stepped inside with your pet just to place an order)-One wall of the cafe has outlets running down it but thats the only place to charge your devices-There are lots of cold canned drinks to choose from including izze, milk, san pel, celsius, etc. but i dont know why anyone would choose that given how tasty the yemeni drinks are!some notes to the owners:- thank you for opening up shop! : )

Catastrophe Pizza&Bakery
4501 Martin Luther King Jr Way, Oakland, CA 94609, United States
Okay so I live 1 block from this place and over the past couple months I've been trying everything they have. The man behind the counter is THE nicest person I have ever met and his food is NOT getting nearly enough credit. The pizza is thin and crispy with not too much cheese nor sauce, the prices are very very affordable. I've tried the bakery items he personally makes and they are also to die for, you can taste the different layers in each bite. I'm so serious about this review people… I never review places because I never care THAT much but a catastrophe is 100% the opposite of what you will experience there. ALSO they have gluten free pizza that is hand made, it tastes as if it wasn't gluten free but my girlfriend has a medical condition and loves the pizza. She said it was far better than any fast food gluten free or the other pizza places in the area with pre bought dough.
