Comment: This bakery specializes in gluten free baked goods. Its in a pretty sketchy part of Oakland California. The parking situation is confusing as there are signs everywhere to keep people from parking in other businesses spots. We went on a Sunday morning and it wasnt too busy. The woman behind the counter was very nice explaining to my wife about their gluten free products. She brought several items and according to her they were very good. I had a gluten free turn over which I thought was dense and cake-like. She said thats what theyre supposed to be like . This is a typical bakery operation, mostly displays and a few tables. Nothing special as far as atmosphere.

Comment: Mariposa has amazing options available to the shopper who wants to buy something and leave. But I don’t recommend ordering food there at all. The sandwiches are tiny and it will probably take them 40minutes to make it. There baked goods though are wonderful.

Really appreciate that there’s lots of vegan options while still being food everyone enjoys. Customer service went above and beyond when we had a little snafu. Very lovely people, can’t recommend more for that reason!

Comment: Hands down the BEST gluten free cinnamon rolls and pumpkin muffins! The baguette is also a favorite in my household, makes excellent roasted garlic bread. I had their apple pie with the crumble topping this winter too and it was divine. Cant say enough good things about this bakery!! My only complaint is that I wish they had another bakery closer to where I live, and I do wish they had a vegan option for their crumb cake or streusel muffins.

Comment: Normally I love mariposa but this last order wasn’t very good. I ordered rolls and croissants. The croissants were doughy and not as flaky as they used to be. The rolls were kinda gross tasting. I have shopped at mariposa for years as I live in California and used to travel to pickup an order every once in awhile. Now I probably will spare the expense as Mariposa isn’t cheap. It’s become quite pricey over time and with the taste not being on par it isn’t worth it to me. Their cinnamon rolls were great the last time I had them which was last month.

Comment: I just picked up an order for work that I had placed ahead of time and stood by the counter for a full FIVE minutes before any of the 3 employees even acknowledged me. This is my first time at the bakery and I was looking forward to grabbing a snack since I was here anyways but I will not be coming back here after this experience. 2 of the employees made eye contact with me and said nothing. Horrible customer service! Comment: I happened to be in Berkeley to try a new nail salon. I was in the mood for a gluten free donut. Mariposa bakery popped up in my Google search. All I saw were chocolate donuts which is not my favorite. However I found many other goodies that I had been looking for along with some pleasant surprises. Cinnamon roles, pie crust, pumpkin muffins, spinach lasagna, and of course bread to make sandwiches for lunch. You can even get some food made there. Comment: As far as gluten-free /dairy-free allergen conscious go, Mariposa Baking Company hits the nail on the head. We were only looking based on a friends allergy/intolerances, so what we tried was a little limited by those restrictions. We also were not worried about cross contamination on the level that a celiac might. Bear in mind that all of the packaged bakery items that we purchased specifically noted allergens and warned that the bakery also creates products with dairy, eggs, nuts, and soy. My friend did not get sick after eating at Mariposa baking company and we all enjoyed the baked goods, so thats a major win.I would most recommend the cinnamon roll for those looking for a gluten-free option. The Viennese tea cookies are gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and vegan so they make a great allergen conscious gift. However, I would not recommend that you eat them without a hot beverage. The almond flour can make it a little gritty, but as long as youre having a warm drink with it that texture improves a lot.We did not try any of their artisanal lattes/ beverages, but they looked lovely and had a wide variety of flavors and options. The bear claw was also a standout amongst the gluten-free options we tried.

Comment: The food is amazing and as someone with celiac, I love it. However, I dont live near so my friend sends me packages as presents. Please know that their customer service is terrible and they firmly believe, and will argue with you, that they can ship their no preservative food with no ice or food-safe packaging with a 3-5 BUSINESS day window. They only ship USPS and I live in a rural area with a PO Box but they claim they dont ship to PO Boxes, despite shipping to my PO Box... they dont offer other shipping services so I literally cannot get it shipped anywhere but my PO Box.Needless to say, I havent gotten an unspoiled package in years.I wasnt going to leave a review but their customer service was so terrible and convinced they are in the right... when all their rules contradict themselves. If youre going to have food with no preservatives, you need to ship it food safe. If you arent going to ship it food safe, you need to overnight it. Seems like a no brainer to me?

Comment: I live in South Florida and I order from Mariposa. It is THAT GOOD. The shipping is technically two-day, but if I order early enough I usually get the shipment next-day. The baked goods arrive in good condition and everything is delicious! Highly recommended for those with celiac disease.

Comment: The Mecca of Bay Area gluten free goodness! I FINALLY made it to their main shop after years of visiting the ferry building site, and WOW is it worth the visit. I was floored by the combo of pre-packaged goodies (biscotti, pasta, etc), fresh goodies (croissants, cookies, muffins, bagels, cakes, and more), and made-to-order goodies (sandwiches, drinks). A beautiful and mouth-watering oasis to folks with allergies and intolerances (and even if you don’t—this stuff is SO good, my non-allergic friends loved it too!). If you’re gluten free, you MUST treat yourself here.

Comment: They nailed the gluteny texture, y’all. Their baguette actually has the texture of a gluten-based baguette. The lemon loaf is sublime. This place is worth the wait and the price. I have no clue how they captured the buttery pastry layers of a gluteny croissant but they did (definitely use jam when eating the croissant, slightly odd aftertaste but I still highly recommend). Pushkin’s Bakery in Sacramento is my local GF bakery and they’re great but their products have a sameness throughout them. I spent over $100 here at Mariposa and do not regret a cent. 10/10.

Comment: Always wonderful treats. Endless options for sweet, wish they had more savory! Most recently got one of their white cake/white frosting/sprinkles birthday cakes. Was for a gluten eatin 3yr olds bday with mix of 50/50 GF adults and kids. Pretty pricy at ~$52 for a relatively small cake, but zero regrets because it was loved by all gluten-free and not. Not overly sweet, the frosting in particular was just absolutely perfect level of sweetness. Cake was moist and spongy.Great work Mariposa folks, thank you! Grateful to have you in the neighborhood.

Comment: This is the best gluten free bakery Ive found so far. The cherry popovers were amazing! Fluffy. Buttery. Not too sweet. I havent tasted the other sweets i bought yet but based on what we did eat Im expecting them to be great. Next time Ill try their croissants. Im expecting they will be great. The two sandwiches were as good as I could hope. Mine had smoked salmon and LOTS of light yummy cream cheese plus cucumbers and arugula. Ill definitely be back.

Comment: I love this bakery so much. I was diagnosed with Celiacs disease in 2005. In 15 years I have consumed more gluten free bread, pasta, and baked goods than most. When I first went gluten free we used to have to order products sight unseen and untested over the internet and it would come packed in coolers with dry ice. Haha, so much of it was nasty. Then I found Mariposa. MARIPOSA IS THE BEST GLUTEN FREE BAKERY EVER! DELICIOUS BREAD THAT ACTUALLY TASTES AND FEELS LIKE BREAD, NOT FLAVORLESS CARDBOARD!! BAKED TREATS THAT ARE TASTY AND DONT FEEL LIKE SAND OR STYROFOAM IN YOUR MOUTH. The frosting is delicious on all the cupcakes and cakes. Cookies are crunchy and just right. I really love the molasses ginger cookies. I wish they made a peanut butter cookie but I understand accommodating peanut allergies so they are cool like that. I do wish they make a coffee cake without walnuts!!! I am ONLY allergic to Walnuts and not being able to eat their coffee cake makes me so so sad, but it looks and smells delicious. The ham and cheese pastry pockets are AMAZING!!! I LOVE THE FAUX RYE, I use it for patty melts and reubens at home. The sandwich batard is *chefs kiss*. The baguettes are the right combo of crunchy outside and soft inside, my family likes to slice them up, lightly toast them and eat them with melted raclette cheese on Xmas. We have used Mariposa bread to make stuffing at Thanksgiving and Turkey sandwiches. My wife and I even had a Mariposa cake at our wedding!! They even have some breads which dont have eggs or diary, so if you are vegan or allergic to those you can still eat them!! They used to make rosemary pull apart dinner rolls which were fragrant and so good with butter. They still make dinner rolls, just not rosemary, and they are just as tasty with soup or as a side with butter. Also, the focaccia is to die for. If they have it, get it and eat it slightly warmed up with GOOD OLIVE OIL. Just trust me and eat their baked goods you wont regret it!

Comment: The chocolate croissants are to-die-for. I drove 45 minutes out of the way during a road trip to pick some up! Any time I am in the region I try to go to Mariposa. Their warm food is also very good, however the croissants are my favorite and stand out above all of the other baked goods I have tried. The cinnamon rolls are noteworthy - but only worth it to me when microwaved for 15-20 seconds!

Comment: Mariposa is a celiac sufferer’s dream. My favorite sweet is the Venetian Tea Cookies, they taste just like my Nona used to make, but without the gluten.Since 2016 this is the first Reuben I could eat, and it as good as at the Jewish run, New York Deli, where I worked in Boulder, Co, years ago.I have had everything from the ravioli, pizza, and ham and cheese pastries, to the pecan rolls and croissants, and never have I been disappointed! Comment: Do not trust their signage! I am allergic to soy and ate one of their cupcakes that was clearly marked as soy-free, but the sprinkles are not soy-free. After exchanging many emails with Hannah and getting no acknowledgement of a week-long reaction I finally got an apology for my suffering. I was advised to check next time to make sure there isn’t soy, which everyone who has allergies knows, is very annoying to do everywhere they go. I trusted that the sign was accurate so why would I ask or check their website for ingredients? Very frustrated with this experience. For supposedly being allergen-friendly they were careless with their signage and careless with their empathy.

Comment: We totally love this place! My kids cant eat wheat, so sometimes we make a special trip 2 Mariposa 4 goodies. They make their own bread and everything, of course, but the prices are a bit on the high end for some items so we get most of our everyday stuff at Trader Joes. But for Sweet Treats, Donuts, bear claw or chocolate croissants this is the only spot and they do it well. My only complaint, which was why I dropped one star, is that they use sprinkles with chemical dyes. I have asked employees if these are organic or natural sprinkles and they have said they are not. And they do put them and their sprinkle cupcakes and on top of their donuts. They use all quality ingredients, and there are all natural sprinkles available that would not raise costs much. And when youre paying $5 for a single donut or a cupcake, if using natural sprinkles raises their costs of the cupcake by 7 cents, it really seems like a reasonable expectation. It would really help customers like my kids who have bad reactions to the chemical dyes. If they used naturally colored sprinkles instead, this would be a 5-star review.

Comment: This is my happy place - it’s a Celiacs/ gluten-free dream come true. I have been here at least 10 times and I love their pocket meals, croissants, cheese danish and donuts! Honestly I have never not liked my meal - I would say that the Cinnabon’s and Bagels are a little thick but still tasty. Great place to take your gluten-free friend!

Comment: Went to the Oakland location and the girl who made my sandwich was eating the ingredients as she made it. The sandwich did not have all the ingredients as listed on the menu, leaving it favorless. When I called to speak to the manager the next day the person on the phone was so rude and refused to let me speak to her. Worst service I have ever received. Uncleanly, unprofessional, and not worth the 12$ for a half made sandwich.

Comment: The food here is a very high quality, and is beautiful and delicious, but there is certainly a lot of very unhealthy food here. Do not expect that just because it is a gluten free bakery, that they serve things that are nutritious. But overall: YUM!

Comment: After eating a cookie at the Ferry Building location, our cashier convinced us to see the main bakery in Oakland. If I had this bakery at home, I would gain 10lbs for all the deliciousness. As someone who wants what everyone else can have, I was thrilled that there is a bakery in which I can have anything. I will say that the prices are more than what you would pay at a conventional bakery but that shouldn’t deter you from trying it out.

Comment: I’ve been a Mariposa customer for almost 10 years, even before I went gluten-free. I love how clearly everything is labeled (soy free, vegan, nut free, dairy free), so I know exactly what I’m getting. The business has continued to evolve over the years, and there are new, creative baked options every season. If you are gluten-free, it’s so exciting to be able to chose ANYTHING in the store! The baked goods and meal options are all delicious. I come here at least once a week, and make sure to pick up specialty items for holidays. My family that have no dietary restrictions have enjoyed Mariposa as well.

Comment: Very expensive... but great if you are looking for any sort of dietary accommodation. GREAT house coffee, though espresso drinks are not available. Would reccomend the BLAT sandwich or veggie pockets for lunch, and warn against the pastry case near the end of the day, the goodies just arent as good as the in the mornings (though they are still enjoyable). Any of the cakes are amazing. And its ALL gluten free.

Comment: Lovely place to drop by on a Sunday morning at the end of my visit to Oakland. I did a quick search for gluten-free bakery and was pleasantly surprised to find Mariposa was so close to where I was staying. I was impressed by their selection and reasonable prices. I picked up a loaf of GF bread and a vegan whoopee pie.

Comment: Its really nice to find a dedicated gluten free place, since my partner has celiac disease. The bread is good, even if you live that gluten life, and so is the service. Not all the products are, though, so you have to be willing to end up buying some duds to figure out whats worth getting. They have a cafe service also, but the food that you can order barely passes for decent. It wouldnt take a lot to tweak it to being delicious, but they dont seem to care because they have the gf market more or less cornered at the moment.

Comment: All of the staff was super nice. Being gluten free, dairy free, and egg free this is a really nice place to be at especially since there are plenty of options to choose from. There was a small mix up with our order but they realized it before we even asked. I would definitely come here again, and they do mail order, so if Im out of town, I can still get the delicious treats that I am craving!

Comment: Mariposa Baking Co. is pretty good. Indeed they have perfected gluten free baked goods. I give it a, pretty good, because they use sugar. I think a better sugar alternative should be used, like Monk Fruit. Until then, its 3 stars for now.

Comment: Everything is gluten free!! Best gluten free bakery ever! They even have a few vegan options!!!!! When we go there, we always get the Whoopie Pies and also end up buying the other vegan goodies they have available for that day. They even have vegan empanadas and falafel plate, if sweets arent your thing. Staff is very friendly and helpful!

Comment: Stopped by here for the second time yesterday and unfortunately I’m not really a fan of their pastries - in spite of the fact I really, really wanted to like this place. First time around I tried the carrot cake cupcake and the sugar cookie and found them both to be pretty flat and overly dry. Yesterday, I stopped in again, this time to try the cinnamon roll and it was equally disappointing. I’m not sure if it’s the gluten-free approach that causes the poor texture/composition, but I really didn’t like the consistency of the roll (plus it was ~$4.50!). Bummer, but for whatever reason it’s not for me.

Comment: A little expensive per pastry item, but a lot of good selections from sweet to savory and bread. They have cakes and cupcakes and everything Ive had so far has been really good! More dense than the regular gluten versions, but not in a bad way and the flavors are great:)

Comment: Best gluten free bakery! I guess there are not many rivals in the category, but overall its a great bakery---gluten free or not. The bread is perfectly fluffy and doesnt crumble like other gluten free breads. Every snack Ive tried is grand. And they have decent wifi to use in the cafe, as well.

Comment: They are the only gluten free bakery/ cafe I know of and its really nice to be able to go out for a savory pastry and sit with a cup of coffee. I miss that experience. I wish two things, that they made a chocolate croissant and opened at 8 am so I could run in before work but neither are that healthy for me.

Comment: Great resource for those in need of strictly gluten-free foods, but kinda precious and extremely expensive. Some of their stuff is really good like the ham and cheese pockets and the lasagna, but some of it just doesnt have very good texture or flavor. With so many good gluten-free products out there, they need to up their game a bit.

Comment: They specialize in gluten free and vegan baked food. What sets them apart is the outstanding quality and taste, even for California! They have everything ranging from bagels to pastry pockets, pot pies, tuna melts, pizza and lots of desserts. They even have frozen pizza and quiche that you can take and bake at your house. Coffee and exotic tea to drink, and with their newly expanded space its quite huge and bright the pleasing Decor. Highly recommend.

Comment: I give it 5 starts for just existing! But Ive had much better gf bakery goods (sadly in a bakery that recently closed.) Their breads are really good, and so are cookies and muffins. They dont seem to know how to make flaky crusts (which Ive had elsewhere)....everything seems kind of dense. Also disappointing are the out-sized prices. Im happy theyre there, and I can pick out the few things that I really like. Just wish theyd learn how to do flaky, and lower their prices.

Comment: I loooove Mariposa! I cannot eat any gluten and usually have to worry about all sorts of cross-contamination. Mariposa is a blessing. When I walk in there, I feel like a normal person. I can eat anything, I do not have to ask questions. I love stopping by to grab a turkey sandwich for lunch (will do that today :) The apple gallette is delicious. The sliced bread and the bagette are wonderful too. The brownies are soft and yummy. Thank you, Mariposa.

Comment: Yum! Mariposa has made it so much more enjoyable to be stuck as gluten free. Ive tried many of their pastries and many of their meals, and while their prices are a but high (which I suppose is acceptable for their narrow market), they could work on the texture of their gluten free treats and breads. Ive been gluten free for almost ten years now, and more and more you can pop over to Safeway and get gf bread that tastes like the real thing. English muffins, bagels, you name it-- a couple years ago, youd be better off eating a brick. But now? The gf market has expanded and improved greatly. I feel like Mariposa is stuck in the past, as their recipes havent changed, and their treats are still dense and often have a weird taste (which used to be common with gf foods) to them.Plus, they dont fry their doughnuts!! Who wants a baked doughnut?!So, Mariposa, while it is a great advancement and a great go-to gf restaurant and bakery, they have a few kinks to work out still. Keep up the good work!! And thank you for staying gluten free!
