Comment: This review is based on the fact that I am born and raised Trini, so the low rating of the food should be viewed from that perspective. Other than that, non-trinis may rate it much higher. Well, unfortunately, I cant rate this place a five. This is my 3rd try at this establishment because i really want some food from home. But the food does not live up to Trini food standards. Sorry, but its true. However, its always busy, and the food is liked/good by the standards of those who arent Trini, and I think thats great! Ive even recommended what to get and explained what the food was like to people who were waiting with me. The person in charge was very personable and gave some samples (free) so they could try my suggestions. That was great! The bad part was I got there and had to wait about an hour for my food. I didnt mind because I should have called ahead. Its a very popular place. Unfortunately, they dont have sufficient help. The food itself, according to my family and self, is not as good as it could be. I had chicken and goat roti, doubles, and pholourie. The pholourie was the only thing we liked every time. Oh, the sorrel is legit, too.

My partner and I were greeted with warmth by the owner Chef Ann (who I’ll affectionally call Aunty Ann from now).Entering her kitchen the closest thing to going to a real cook shop on the island. Blasting Soca and interacting with her patrons, Aunty Ann really knows how to make a home away from home. As a Soca lover, I couldn’t help myself moving around while browsing her menu. Catching the vybes, Aunty Ann quickly realised that I too was an islander.We got the curry goat and the vegan fish. At first, the relatively hefty price tag per entrée can be a turn off, but it’s 100% worth it as the serving sizes could be for 2 sittings for some folks. My box of curry was at least 2-3lb of food!The flavours were exceptional — about as authentic as it gets. Her vegan offerings were well thought out and exquisitely executed. Aunty Ann is from Trinidad & Tobago, so the slight variation from what I’m used to back in Jamaica is to be expected.Will be visiting again and again and again!

Comment: I really wanted to like this place and support this business, I found it on an SF Eater site with 38 best places in the East Bay. But man, the curry goat we got was so salty I couldnt eat it, did no one try it when they made it? The oxtail was bland and the jerk chicken was dry. We spent maybe 95$ here and picked up food and drinks to go, but ended up having to go out somewhere else because this was disappointing. The one maybe redeeming thing was the beef patty, that slapped. For a place that is pretty much pick up only it is way too expensive for what is being offered, the drinks too.

Comment: Best caribbean food i’ve had in the bay area! tastes like home. braised oxtail was so tender and the patty was flakey and nice - everything was really well seasoned. the house-made pineapple chow and salad dressing were perfect additions. they even gave us an extra serving for free. service was great! they also have a lemon cardamom vanilla bean cupcake that you can order a large cake version of for parties. we’ll definitely be going back.

Comment: The service was warm and welcoming but unfortunately the food left lots to be desired. My husband is Caribbean so he cant be fooled on authenticity. Whats odd is that the food was authentic- the oxtail, fish, rice & peas, etc- it just wasnt... good. It wasnt horrible, but it lacked flavor. Everything lacked flavor. The jerk wings - greasy, but no real...flavor. It all looked good and smelled good, but aside from the chutney sauces, it was bland. Maybe it was an off day, but no one our house even ate the leftovers, despite having spent a fair amount for a full meal. We might try it again because the customer service was welcoming, but it would probably be for some one-off isolated dish. We would not splurge on a family meal again until we tested out a one-off dish.

The flavors of the Jerk Chicken and Jackfruit entrees were amazing – each dish was bursting with deliciousness. The Jamaican Patty was a delightful starter that left me wanting more. The service was equally remarkable – everyone was incredibly welcoming and friendly, making me feel right at home. I couldnt resist taking a few Patties to go for my friends to enjoy. The pelau was seasoned perfectly, the plantain sweet, and the peanut punch set it off for me. Since I am a member of the Yelp Elite, I signed up to get their sample box of goodies and a beverage. I also ordered the braised oxtails meal that came along with red beans and rice, and a spring mix salad/pineapple dressing.The sample box consisted of one protein, three appetizers, two rice sides. My sample box was 2 spicy jerk chicken wings, 4 fritters and plantain, and red beans and rice. My sample box was free; a pert of being a Yelp Elite member.I believe through all the excitement the employees forgot the dipping sauce and Pelau peas and rice. Then the service was slow. It took me about 50 minutes to get my food to go.There is only a table and two chairs inside the restaurant and several tables and chairs for outdoor dining. Otherwise, food purchases are mainly to go.My overall rating is 3.5 stars round up to four stars.Street parking in the area can be problematic. You would be very lucky to find street parking on High Street between Congress and Fairfax Avenues.

Comment: I very rarely go for Caribbean food but was craving it recently since I’m staying super close by. We ordered it on a Saturday in the afternoon and it was surprisingly very fast. No one was there when we arrived which we were happy about but then we actually tried the food. We started off with the slayed fish fritters which became extremely soggy because they put it in a bag and the steam got trapped. The sauce we got was a little sweet, kind of goopy and not much flavor. None of the sauces had flavor. The pineapple dressing was like Mayo mixed with other things. We ordered jerk chicken, curried goat and the oxtail. All were very disappointing and greasy. The rice was flavorless and dry (every single one we got and we tried 3 different types). This was pretty expensive for the quality and I have no idea why people are saying this is good. It’s extremely underwhelming. Everything looks good but does not taste good.

Flavor is consistently on point with trademark spice & quality. Decent portion, esp the pre-portioned blacks containers can be washed & reused. My personal fav is the Jerk Chicken & pigeon pea rice with the plantain. Slightly spicy with mild sweetness nicely blended is a very filling dish. Surprise standout is the marinated pineapple which is a nice touch to the taste buds. The Tropical Super food Smoothie is a naturally sweet, satisfying delicious concoction of healthy goodness. Cheezy Mac Casserole is yummy to my tummy! Not sure if its served only once a week or a regular staple menu item, but you MUST try it! Friendly, warm staff & convenient corner location. Two thumbs up, I highly recommend this place for anyone searching for flavors that that are familiar but tantalizing to the senses.

I overheard the kitchen staff saying something about skipping orders. I also think they need a better check-in procedure for customers. Comment: Warning: Not gluten-free friendly. Not celiac safe!Asked which vegetarian dishes were gluten free. Woman at the counter went to the kitchen to confirm. Was told that there were 2 options that the chef confirmed were gluten free. One of them was Curry Tofu, Potatoes, & Chana with Pelau. It was not gluten free! This wasnt a case of a small amount of cross contamination. I lost the entire lining of my small intestine and was knocked down for 4 days. With my weakened immune system, I got sick with something else on the 3rd day, and lost an additional 5 days. Thats 9 days of my life because this place cant keep track of which ingredients theyre using. Not worth it! Dont believe all of the gluten-free labeling. This place is not celiac safe.Im giving them 4 stars because this is a small family-run business with delicious food and I still wish them the best. Id highly recommend Coco Breeze for anyone who doesnt have dietary restrictions. If youre strictly gluten free, strictly vegan, or have any food allergies then you should go elsewhere.

Also, they added goat meat with bone pieces in a wrap. Not sure why you would do that. Biting into a bone is not fun especially when you are least expecting it.

The spicy doubles are phenomenal and the plantains are just like how my grandma used to make them. All the sauces and chutneys were bursting with flavor and freshness. After half an hour, when he was taking out someone else’s order, he said they were “packing it up.” Finally got the food after 40 minutes on the dot, which is not an exaggeration because I saw when I paid with my phone. I just think that’s poor form, right? Just tell people it’s going to be a long wait. Plus, the food was mediocre. Had the chicken curry roti and it was flavorless. We also had the oxtail, which was fine. And I forgot about the salad!! It came with 2 small side salads that were totally dry, which I find pretty weird. Really wanted to like this place but definitely not a good experience. Hope they can get better!!

If there is a special event plan the hear live music. The smell of the prepared food will instantly take you to the Caribbean. The vibe, the live music and the taste is worth the wait. THERE WILL BE A WAIT. Since they opened last year August there is always a line and the food is made to order. To get authentic caribbean food on the West you must always plan to hurry up and wait .

After waiting patiently for 30 minutes, when we enquired about our order, we were rudely told that they are serving people on first come first basis as if we were trying to cut in. Finally, after waiting for an hour, when we could not take it anymore and went to cancel the order, they said that food will be ready in another minute. Hearing our complaint, one of the other server came out and said that it was not me who took the order so I dont know who gave you 20 minutes time estimate and offered the $20 dollar bill as if it was the money that we cared about.We were waiting for an hour outside in cold and feeling hungry.It just shows that there is no value for the customers time.If you have lots of pre-orders,please let the customers know when they are placing the order so that they can order accordingly.Providing a time estimate and then taking more than double the time and justifying it by saying you are being fair to customers is really poor customer service.

Comment: We had been meaning to try this new place, but with long lines being a usual occurrence, we waited. Driving by New Years day we were pleased to find them open, no line. You enter this small storefront (1 family at a time) and were immediately greeted with a smile and offer of help. They were busy packing to-go orders, but answered our questions and took our order like we were the only people who mattered. When we left to wait for our food, the line had magically appeared. (We went at 5 pm.) Once we got the food (20 minutes later), the smells filled the car. We got the salt fish fritter appetizer and couldnt wait to get home before trying them...OMG!! I am super picky about my food, dont want to waste calories on food that doesnt taste great. These fritters were hot, crispy, well seasoned. We also got 2 entrees (Jerk chicken and ox tails). The amount of food was great (dinner plus left overs for lunch). The chicken was seasoned great with the kick in the back of your mouth. The ox tails were 2nd only to my own. The meals were each packaged nicely with an orchid in each. Each meal came with an individual salad, great dressing, fresh pineapple with seasoning, and a mint. I dont often find a restaurant where I am sure I will go again soon, but this is one. They were already sold out of their desserts and some of their fresh ingredients juices so order early, but definitely try them!!!

Supposedly they sell out a lot, but I was lucky enough to order plantains, chicken patties, roti w/curry chicken, pelau, and fish cakes. The fish cakes werent my favorite and the roti, with curry chicken and potatoes was a little different from what I was expecting, because it wasnt wrapped like a burrito and the chicken still had the bone on it, but it was still good. Patties and pelau were also good. Will be back to try other things. Sorrel was bomb.

They completely missed one of our orders for jerk chicken and Carole rice and one of our side orders, which we were charged for, was not discovered until we got home. It was too late to call as they were closed. We had a long wait for our order, however, they were very kind and offered us a drink and appetizer complimentary. (Had I been informed of this I would have swapped for something that was ready).Total wait time, 90+min. Because of the wait two of my plates were cold and had to be microwaved at home. Overall the food was bland and presentation was sloppy. Juice and dessert are over priced given the portion (flavors werent good either). I was really hoping for better food given the LONG wait. Staff is kind but scattered.My recommendation for the owners is cut down your menu. Have one or two meal options a day. Its a small restairant. There also needs to be more assistance at the front to take orders on the spot, to handle incoming calls and to assit those arriving for pick up orders.If you see long lines its not people waiting to order, its just people waiting to get there food for long.

Prices match the food quality and serving size, but dont yet match the service.
