Comment: RACIST OWNER UPSET I WOULDNT ACCEPT BURNT BAGELS!I just had the most horrible customer service experience in over 20 years of patroning Noahs Bagels on Lakeshore Ave., Oakland, CA. I placed an order through the app for two plain bagels toasted with butter. When I arrived, I asked for my order to be double toasted (since I noticed it wasnt ready yet and thats a customization that you cant specify through the app).At this time I learned that my order had somehow been lost or was never received, so the associate got the owner to address the issue. Unfortunately for me, my phone died at the exact moment I was trying to show the owner that I had placed and paid for my order through the app.The owner said more than once, while shrugging his shoulders and waving me off, well, theres nothing I can do for you (even though mind you, I was a customer who had already paid for her order). There was no attempt on his end to investigate the missing order in the system or take other measures to fix or determine the cause of the issue. Instead, he seemed to immediately take issue with me, and it felt as if he thought I was lying - he treated me accordingly and dismissed my requests to find a remedy. It wasnt until I stated the exact amount I remember paying for the order, that he begrudgingly turned around and seemingly decided to proceed to make my order. He never verbally mentioned at all that he would fulfill my order. So (being unsure whether or not the owner was making my order), I proceeded back to my car, with my two young children in tow, to let my phone charge for a bit so I could prove I paid for my order.When I returned and showed the owner the email confirmation of my order that was on my phone from 30 minutes earlier, he simply pointed and said your bagels are over there. There was no apology for the confusion, or for the fact that their system/app failed, or for the delayed time it took me to get my order. I thanked him anyway, took my bagels, my kids, and left.However, when I got to my car and opened my bag, I discovered that my bagels were COMPLETELY BURNT (i.e. charred black on top). I wish I had of taken a picture to show that this was not a subjective preference issue. My food, by any objective and reasonable persons standard, was burnt.I unloaded my kids from the car (again), walked back into the store, and simply requested that my order be fixed. The owner began to berate me, saying dismissively that I asked for double toasted. I agreed that I did ask for double toasted; I did not ask for my bagel to be burnt. In all my years of ordering my bagels double toasted, they had never been served to me burnt as this owner had done.The owner continued to berate me in public and in front of other patrons, while gesticulating with his arms, saying that I couldnt be pleased and that we toast it once for you, its too light! We toast it twice, now its burnt! Make up your mind! We gave you what you asked for! I physically opened the bagel and asked him if it looked burnt to him and he agreed that it did. I said again that I asked for double toasted; not burnt. I told him that I couldnt imagine any customer ordering or accepting a burnt bagel that looked like mine. I also told him that I, a paying customer, should not have to go back-and-forth to request that Noahs fix my food that was served to me burnt.The owner eventually remade my bagels, but I wonder if I wasnt a black women, would this owner (an older white man) have given me the same lack of customer service after losing my order and serving me burnt bagels?I am absolutely horrified at the lack of customer service. From being dismissed and waved-off because Noahs lost my order that I placed and paid for through their app, to being berated for daring to ask that my order be re-prepared after I was served burnt bagels (quite literally), to being told by the owner that my two decades of patronage meant nothing. ZERO STARS!

Comment: Went in this morning because I was hungry and had a little time to kill. The place was relatively empty, with only one person in line and one person exiting. I stood back to look at the menu completely and figure out what I wanted while the 4 employees behind the counter paced back and forth. I stood there for at least 5 minutes without ANY kind of acknowledgment. Not “hello, good morning, may I help you, are you ready?”- NOTHING! I almost thought I was invisible. I eventually ended up leaving because I felt my business wasn’t important to them. That and what looks to be the manager stacking bacon on the sandwiches straight from the countertop. Gross! Surely there was something, ANYTHING the bacon could sit on!

Comment: The bagel was five star, and I really love how little packaging and waste there was. But it TOOK SO LONG!! I waited nearly 20 minutes, just for one toasted bagel! I want to support them for not giving me a tub of cream cheese that I only use a third of, and not putting three layers of wrappers and bags and other annoying, wasteful junk around my order. But it seems I cant just grab a bagel here and run.

Comment: I used to love coming here. I don’t know for how long, got to be more than 25 years.Today I had one of the worst customer service experiences I can remember. I ordered a bagel. I gave a tip. I waited, while folks ahead and behind me were being served their food. I didn’t say anything. I walked outside and continued to wait. I saw my name on the screen while folks ahead and behind me were still being served. Then I watched the preparer make my food, while chatting with her coworker. I didn’t say anything. She then left my wrapped up bagel on the counter and turned around and continued chatting with her coworker. Her coworker finally mentioned that the bagel was sitting on the prep counter. She turned around and handed me my food. I still didn’t say anything. Then she says “you rude”. Probably because I didn’t say thank you and my face was that of a grumpy old man. Well, the experience did make me feel grumpy. But then she yelled at me some more, asked me if I work. What?!… why is this young woman attacking me? She is the one without work ethics, having my food get cold. Terrible experience from a franchise I have decades of experience loving.I then ate my bagel and it was as delightful as it’s been for 25+ years. I won’t be returning to this establishment. It’s lost it’s kindness and work ethics. Wouldn’t mind getting my tip back.

Comment: I’ve lived near this shop for years, and I love breakfast bagels. You’d think I ate here all the time!Here’s the problem: there’s always a long wait, and the staff moves super slow, so I try to call my orders in. But they consistently ignore calls or hang up on them. I often used to call 15-20x, and maybe get through 1/10th of the time. I still try every now and then thinking they’ll have a new manager or something. The best part? When asked about this, the employees shrug it off without the slightest apology and just say it’s too annoying to answer because they get busy. At a bagel shop. Selling bagels to maybe 2 customers at a time. All the other local bagel shops seem to have it figured out, but Noah’s? They don’t care enough to do anything but watch the clock tick the hours away on their shifts. It’s a shame.

Comment: We tried Noahs Bagels for the first time as we were running late and got hungry and needed to get a quick bite before heading to our next appointment close to Lake Merritt. They have a great location on Lakeshore Ave.Store itself is ok and needs bit more cleaning and hygiene levels overall, but service was friendly, quick and bagels were quite yummy.We shared the chorizo, lox and simple ham and swiss (with fried egg) for our 4 year old. All three were delicious!

Comment: I normally don’t write reviews but I was pretty disappointed with every aspect of our visit to this place.We ordered a sandwich for my son and asked for the egg to be omitted (which the lady at the register insisted was easy to do and assured us multiple times that she would ensure her coworker did not put the egg on the sandwich). Lo and behold when we got home and opened our food: egg on sandwich.Not only this, but the woman preparing food had her mask on her chin (mouth and nose uncovered) the entire time we were there, and her coworker in the back pulled her mask down to her chin to talk to her and never put it back. They also had 3 unmasked customers or maybe just friends of the employees hanging out in the stole the whole time even though there was clear signage that the restaurant was not open to indoor dining AND required masks. (Only one of the three was eating or sitting anyway, the others were just being there maskless).Very disappointed in safety protocols and attention to detail here, and will definitely not be returning.

Do not go here unless you like seeing people behind the counter stand around, do nothing, and then receive your order only to find out they got it wrong and when bringing it back, there was no apology given. Additionally when paying, I was aggressively thrown my change which then went everywhere on the counter and never got an apology .There were 5 workers and only 1 was actually working but it seemed like she was focusing on the call-in orders. Today Peets and Starbucks had lines and I was in a hurry.Big mistake.There were only 2 people ahead of me in the store and I saw about 4 or 5 SMALL orders for delivery go out in the 15 minutes it took to toast my bagel and put cream cheese on my bagel. Also, the manager wears a mask that is WAY too big, (you can see her nose and mouth) touches it constantly and then touches everything behind the counter. There will never be another visit by me.

Comment: They screw up the order every time. Wrong bagel, wrong cream cheese, not toasted...its a different thing every time. The bagels arent great, and the service is terrible.

Comment: I wouldnt say that the bagels are GREAT (but, Im from the New York City area so Im spoiled!), but the bagel sandwiches are great and I love the variety of toppings. They dont charge extra for egg whites! And they have a nice challah bread option. I also have not tried it but they have a cool tap area where they have different types of cold brews on tap.

Comment: Was treated like absolute garbage, while trying to grab a bite to eat. The manager yelled Get out now!! at the top of his lungs, and I have never been back since. This was actually years ago, but this is the neighborhood I grew up in, and I have refused to come back since, simply because of the traumatic experience I had to deal with as a teenager. This is a story that has lasted with me for many years, and I would recommend to anybody that I personally know to choose a business with better customer service.

Comment: They usually get at least one part of the order wrong. Order an everything bagel, walk out with onion. Order toasted, not toasted. Then the employees are so unfriendly it seems like its not worth it to complain. I only go back because its the only bagel place in the neighborhood.Update... With the remodel I was really hopeful that anything else about this place would change, but I was wrong. I just waited 20 minutes for to Bagel sandwiches and then had to remind them of my order. Also, not surprisingly, they got my order wrong.

Comment: They dont give you that 13th bagel when you order a dozen. Got my to-go order wrong. Bagles here are typically tough and dry. The staff dissed the Montclair branch. The Montclair branch is way better. Friendlier staff, shorter wait times, tastier bagles, and ALWAYS includes that 13th bagel. Will not visit the branch again despite it being more convenient location.

Comment: Ive entered a 4 Star rating because the staff was busy and allowed my bagel to go cold. And not until I start asking about my order did they make it. The problem was they gave me an order and it wasnt fixed correctly and it was cold and I asked for it toasted. I Gabe it back to them to remake.I was skipped over for 20mins. And it took another 10mins and this time, which I dont like doing, I stood there and watching.
