Rpublique Caf Bakery & Rpublique Restaurant
624 S La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036, United States
Republique has been one of my favorite places for brunch and getting pastry in town, but the line has always been long. I decided to go there for a business dinner with a Reservation few days ago but the experience was somehow disappointing. We had a Reservation for two at 830pm in the back dining room but we were told to waited at the bar until 9pm. It was already embarrassing for me to tell my guest, then they offered us to sit at the communal table in the front with everyone passing through us. It was not ideal, so we decided to wait longer for the dining room we originally planned. The hostess told us the guests took much longer to dine that night, but we finally got seated in the table in the dining room almost 40 mins after our original reservation time. Then we had AC blasting on us at the table when it is only 50 degrees outside, and with a big table of drunk guys yelling and shouting next to us. People were wearing coats and jackets on them during dinner! The dining room was beautiful with high ceiling, but we felt like sitting outside in the cold in a loud, random marketplace. Our spot was unbearable, so we had to change. In the end, a table for two in the corner finally opened up, and we moved away from the noise and cold. Finally, we could order but our appetite was pretty much ruined. The food was still exceptional, especially the venison pate, beef cheek and market salad we ordered. The server for our table was very attentive, and helpful. But again, one dish came out cold and the crowd and experience on a regular Thursday night was questionable. With a menu with an entree at average $50 a dish and we spent nearly $200 per person for the night, we did not feel like the experience we had was up to the standards. There are plenty of nicer choices in town for the price point. My recommendations: I would only go back for brunch or day time, keep it casual and less expectation. If you wanna go for a romamtic date or business meal, think twice! Or get a table upstairs away from the noise and enjoy those delicious dishes.
Rckenwagner Bakery, Caf Market
12835 Washington Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90066, United States
Both the umlaut and prominently displayed pretzels hint that this is a German bakery, but Röckenwagner offers more than just that. The wide range of pastries and dishes rival what you can find elsewhere in a traditional bakery, or cafe.Among everything Ive had, the lox danish is the absolute highlight. Fresh lox, cream cheese and everything seasoning on top of a flaky kouign amann without the caramelization, beautifully garnished by dill and capers, this pastry is both delicate and delicious, and $6.5 is basically what you usually pay for half of a boring lox bagel!Their butter croissant isnt as impressive, its soft and on the bland aide. The pretzel version is better thanks to the unique alkaline taste. The preztel bacon and gruyere croissant plays a double twist on the traditional ham & cheese croissant: pretzel skin, bacon heart. I wish I had it warmed up a little for a crispier crust. While Im not always amazed, I feel that this is a place that I have lots of options and wont go too wrong with any of them. From their pretty expansive breakfast and brunch menu, I tried the pretzel burger. The beef patty is tender and juicy, but the presentation gives me an old school diner vibe. Well, maybe they are more of a diner than a hipster cafe.Service at Röckenwagner has always been friendly and attentive. There are several big tables inside, and four smaller ones in front of the bakery where youll get a ton of sun. There can be a short line, but it comes and goes. I woundt mind a little wait, and will definitely go back again at least for that lox croissant.
85C Bakery Cafe - Downtown Los Angeles
700 Wilshire Blvd A, Los Angeles, CA 90017, United States
I used to visit this place quite often. But a brand should not just be carried by how great the product is and how well it is advertized, it also should be carried by its customer service. One time I came in and a customer had ordered many pieces and has held the line up. I did not mind this, although there were 3 other staff that did not jump at the opportunity to recognize there was a line and it has been 15 minutes, and the only action and recognition I received was the awkward look. These people had stepped up their disrespect and rudeness when one of them rolled their eyes on me. When finally after 20 minutes one of them finally provided service, when the transaction was complete, that employee just left without saying thank you. This store should not even get a star from me. Very rude, very disrespectful, and no manners. They made me feel very disgusting.

The food is great but my friends and I had the worst customer service experience in our entire life. We just bought our food and sat in one of the tables. We just started eating and then they just turned off the lights and nobody told us. We were amused because we are so visible to the employees and nobody bothers telling us that we need to leave. When we went outside we saw it that the light was turned again. I went back and talked to the manager I told him our disapppointment and he just said that the light will automatically turned off to get rid of their customers. Wow! what a reason! It's so rude for him to tell me that. I told him that someone should just have told us that we need to leave because their closing than just turned off the light while we were eating! My friend saw the lady employee turned off the switch but before that one of the employees started to put the chairs on the table but he did not bother tell us that we need to leave. We can just say that the employees have no respect! No courtesy! No kindness! No customer service ethics. They need to be trained or terminated if they are not happy doing their job in.a customer service industry. They dont know how to treat us or approach us well maybe because we are asians. We are frequent customers to the company. I have been to many countries and dine in to many food chains and restaurants but I just did experience the worst customer service in my life and it happened in Los Angeles, California, USA in 85 degrees, 3377 Wilshire Blvd., CA 90401.
La Monarca Bakery & Cafe

This is the first low rate I have ever given to a place. I was so very excited to go into the place and make a purchase, the way I was treated by the employee was very disappointing. There was only one person seating at a table, whether if he was a patron or an employee, I dont know. The point is that after looking around I was ready to make a purchase. Took the item I wanted to the counter and addressed the employee who was standing behind facing the wall. I said Excuse me, Im ready. When you have a minute, would you please help me? Since she was facing the wall and not me, I could not see what she was doing. She turned around and in a patronizing, upset, fastidious tone she said Im making food, can you please wait? Thank you- ...Thank you- ...Thank you No, is not what she said that made me upset. The tone and attitude. Patronizing a customer is never a good idea. There was no hand sanitizer anywhere in the store. The employee was wearing a face mask, which by the way Im thankful for, I would had been even more disappointed and upset if I had seen her face. I have no idea about the quality of the products. There are tables for people to seat and eat. I would not want to be in a place where employees are too busy doing their job to be troubled by customers. We are their job and customer service is king. Very disappointed with the employee. I walked out without buying anything. Definitely do not recommend visiting this place.
Amandine Patisserie Cafe
12225 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90025, United States
Went here with the wife after a doctors visit.Ambiance is less than excellent but the place is clean and service was great. We ordered cappuccinos, eggs over easy for the wife and French Toast for me. French Toast is my go-to dish for breakfast at a new restaurant. The coffees came quickly. They were quite large, which surprised us. However, they were very good with a good amount of foam, but not too much. This gave us high hopes for the food. The food arrived soon, delivered straight from the kitchen. The wifes eggs were to her liking, the bacon was crisp, the toast was dry and there was a small bowl of chopped fruit, too. The wife was delighted with everything.I was also delighted with the French Toast. Without fear of contradiction, I can say it was the best French Toast I have ever had. The toast was fluffy and stayed that way for the whole meal. The bread was brioche, I found out later. The portions were large. I couldnt finish mine, which is really saying something. The wife joined the clean plate club and that is also saying something. All in all, we were very pleased with our choice for breakfast. The inside decor is straight from IKEA, but clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and efficient. The food was worth going back for.Bottom line: worth a visit. A bit expensive but that just might be the dinosaur in me. It was $40 for the whole shebang and we got to watch the doings on Wilshire Blvd.Update (13 Feb 2024): Went here again today. Only self-serve now (I guess they have to pay their people more so they eliminated that to save money. ) Order at the counter, about the same price and food quantity. There was a different taste to the French Toast today, not bad, just not as good as before. Wife was pleased with hers.Still worth a shot.Parking at the back.

It was nice to watch this place grow through the pandemic and theyre really starting to thrive. Ive had a few things from here in the past. Ill review the pastries & then the coffee. As for the service here, it is always fantastic & theyre very helpful & sweet. Ive only had great experiences from their staff.Pastries: The sweet potato bread in the case was really interesting. It looked like a potato and tasted like those roasted sweet potatoes you eat in the winter, except cold with a little cream filling. The cream bread is fluffy with a rich filling. And I love the blueberry cream they put on their cakes and tarts. I have yet to try the bread but next time I will get a baguette. Most of the pastries are not very sweet & you can find lots of traditional Asian & Korean style treats here. Mochi with anko, jot dog buns, & today I saw something that looked like a filled Hotteok (호떡) but I cant read hangul so Im not entirely sure. They also sell whole cakes in various sizes for birthdays or gifts. Some of them are quite small which is perfect for a small birthday get together.Coffee: They dont do espresso yet. I asked for a latte today & was helped by a very kind gentleman who instead made me a iced coffee with vanilla & a splash of milk. Im not quite sure if it was pour over or cold brew but he informed me that it was a dark roast & I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was. The syrups they use are high quality & the coffee was smooth & refreshing. Ill definitely be coming back to get this drink again & again.I have gotten pour over hot coffee here in the past as well. They have a cool set up near the front that lets you watch them make it for you. This has been hit or miss for me depending on the beans. They let you choose from a variety of coffees that they sell, so Im sure its a pain to dial in the grind for many bags so Ive had mixed results ordering this but never anything so bad I couldnt drink it. Just sometimes its better than others.Anyway, hope this long review encourages you to try a treat from this new coffee shop & bakery. It truly is a nice treat after shopping at Hmart.
Emilis Pastry & Cafe
11551 CA-2 #3, Los Angeles, CA 90025, United States
My wife and I had an appalling experience today. We walked in and were not greeted or acknowledged by the one person working. For about 5 minutes she was preparing drinks for someone else when she eventually turned around and asked if we were ready. She walked over to the register and we couldn't believe our eyes. She literally looked topless. After a few seconds we realized she was wearing a tiny skin-colored bra (and that's it) but it was still shocking. I understand wanting to show off your body especially in a city like LA but it was a bit ridiculous and definitely unprofessional. We asked her some questions about the menu About half of the options were not available. We pay and I realize after the fact that there is a 3.9% fee for using a credit card. Whatever, as long as the food is good I thought. We spent about 30 minutes waiting for 2 extremely basic sandwiches. There were only 6 people in the cafe including us. Finally the food comes out and one of the sandwiches is wrong. The worker got it mixed up with another sandwich I had asked about, even though when charging me she rung me up correctly. What I paid for was more expensive than what she brought me. When I asked her about the mix-up she got defensive and accused me of changing my mind. It's not my fault that the entire menu is missing and you can't remember a simple order. Figure out your business instead of getting mad at your customers that are receiving poor service. After all the wait, the sandwiches were nothing special. The ingredients were the same as what's at the supermarket. The amount of meat on them was paltry. Just not worth the time or money at all.Definitely won't be back. We like places like Amandine and Literati a lot more.
La Monarca Bakery & Cafe
2127 E Cesar E Chavez Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90033, United States
Update: Although Martha reached out to me to make corrections from my previous experience, this location does not have their online orders together. You pay ahead to skip the line and staff will still have you line up behind the morning rush even though your order is ready. What's the point of online ordering and paying ahead if your staff still makes you wait? I will not be coming back to this location and hope to hear from management soon. Also, they have no manager on site to deal with potential issues. So if you have a problem, your best bet is leaving a negative review!Previous review: If you order online from this La Monarca Bakery & Cafe location, dont expect it to be ready at the given time slot. Staff will tell you their printer is out of order, making online ordering seem low priority/completely inefficient. I ordered something for pick-up at 6:30 a.m., when I arrived at 6:50 a.m., they had not even started the order. Also, they have no managers at this location, so customer service issues are difficult to address/deal with. Next time, Ill take my business to Capuyo Cafe on 1st Street, staff is kind and they actually have a manager/owner on site!

This little bakery is AMAZING!!!! I got in about 7:30am, they open at 7. The Danishes were not out yet, I told him I was interested in a dozen or so. So I took a seat, he went to the back and started pulling out trays. a couple people came in, I let them go ahead of me since I was going to get so many, I didnt want them to be without the ones they wanted. The guy who runs it is so nice and telling us the ones we HAVE to take because they are SO GOOD! I took his advice and took off to work. As I am bringing them into the office, the box is still warm! I opened it up and all you can smell was the pastry goodness. Everyone devoured them! I wasnt even able to get a photo of them!Beyond amazing!
