Comment: Paid $20 for an inedible sandwich. It was supposed to be a panini but was served on stale baguette. Impossible to bite through. Was supposed to have mozzarella, pesto and turkey--it was just turkey and regular cheese, incredibly dry. I got it to-go, else I wouldve asked for my money back. Straight in the bin.

Comment: I was sold old pastries with mold spots. While waiting to pay, I saw other pastries in the store with mold, one with a visible hair. The server selected the pastries by hand and did not stop to evaluate the quality of the pastries they were selling. They dont seem to appreciate their customers if they would sell food that could cause their customers to be sick.

Comment: My wife and I had an appalling experience today.We walked in and were not greeted or acknowledged by the one person working. For about 5 minutes she was preparing drinks for someone else when she eventually turned around and asked if we were ready. She walked over to the register and we couldn’t believe our eyes. She literally looked topless. After a few seconds we realized she was wearing a tiny skin-colored bra (and that’s it) but it was still shocking. I understand wanting to show off your body especially in a city like LA but it was a bit ridiculous and definitely unprofessional.We asked her some questions about the menu About half of the options were not available. We pay and I realize after the fact that there is a 3.9% fee for using a credit card. Whatever, as long as the food is good I thought.We spent about 30 minutes waiting for 2 extremely basic sandwiches. There were only 6 people in the cafe including us. Finally the food comes out and one of the sandwiches is wrong. The worker got it mixed up with another sandwich I had asked about, even though when charging me she rung me up correctly. What I paid for was more expensive than what she brought me. When I asked her about the mix-up she got defensive and accused me of changing my mind. It’s not my fault that the entire menu is missing and you can’t remember a simple order. Figure out your business instead of getting mad at your customers that are receiving poor service.After all the wait, the sandwiches were nothing special. The ingredients were the same as what’s at the supermarket. The amount of meat on them was paltry. Just not worth the time or money at all.Definitely won’t be back. We like places like Amandine and Literati a lot more.

Comment: Sooo I had the cannoli for the first time ever last month and ever since then, I crave them almost daily. Every week, I have to get the cannoli at least once... YES it is that GOOD! Not sure why it is so amazing, but wow, it is a must try. The iced tea is also a must try! I am still fairly new to the joint and have a lot of other items to try, but so far everything has been amazing. It is also a cozy place to work or study.. very comfortable furniture, and a good peaceful atmosphere. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a tasty pastry or their daily dose of caffeine!

Comment: ... so the old Emils Swiss Pastry is now Emilis Pastry & Café ... wouldnt you know ! I had been a patron of Emils Swiss Pastry for decades, knew the founder, Emil Kofmel who had a great following of loyal customers. When Emil retired, Chris Kaufmann bought the business and initially ran it quite successfully on account of the stellar reputation the bakery enjoyed. Unfortunately over the years it started to deteriorate, not just in quality, but also because of the rather unfriendly staff. I wish the new owners well, the pastry is of good quality, but I feel that the prices are over the top. It would also be fair to the consumer that there would be transparency in terms of pricing, i.e. the items properly marked so one has a chance to make a decision and not needing to keep asking the attendant about how much this or that costs. I personally find the practice of not posting prices as deceptive. It makes one appear as cheap or stingy in front of other customers when one has to ask how much a specific item costs. There is definitely room for improvement.

Comment: I have been a patron of Emils Swiss Pastry for nearly 40 years, going back to the days when Emil Kofmel, the original owner operated this bakery. Ever since Old Emil handed in his towel, there has been a gradual, but steady decline. The number of different types of bakery and pastry goods offered have dwindled, also in recent times the portions have become roughly half the size than what it used to be, but the prices have increased considerably. The staff at Emils Swiss Pastry is often surly, if not rude. Be it what it may, it is not the customers fault if they get poorly paid.Also I found recently, that on the shelves occasionally day-old pastry is being offered for sale - one can easily see it on the example of the Napoleons, the custard on the edges is dried and cracked. It is too bad, for Emils Swiss Pastry once enjoyed a stellar reputation.

Plus you pay a 3% fee for paying with a card, and when you ask for prices they give you an approximate price. They have a good variety of desserts and I hope they stop selling old cakes.

Comment: Came in searching for a sit down French experience café. The ambience is beautiful and the cake displays…However the coffee was tasteless. How can you mess up a simple Americana? I asked for oat milk and she said she put it in there I don’t taste any flavor of any sorts. Very bland.I ordered the fruit tart and it tasted like it was two days old. I was expecting freshly baked and warm. It was awful and hard to cut. Horrible experience for my first time here. I will give it another shot and hopefully it’ll be good otherwise I’m on my way to finding a better one !

I had been waiting at the front of the line for around 5-10 minutes, they seemed busy, so okay. The guy who seemed to be the owner ignored me while taking the orders of people behind me. Tacky. When I said something, he apologized and IMMEDIATELY threw his employee under the bus instead of owning his own mistake. His employee had been preparing food/drinks for customers who had already ordered and just hadnt gotten to me yet. Instead of owning the fact that he just didnt ask me if I had been helped, he just kept on blaming this poor guy who was clearly working hard. What a terrible person to work for. I wont be coming back, since no pastry is worth spending money on people who mistreat their employees.

Comment: Came here for a Saturday morning coffee with a friend. We both ordered the Croissants (Almond and Chocolate). The croissants were nice and crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I honestly cannot say enough good things about these pastries. The bakery also has a nice charm, a beautiful rustic décor and it smells delicious. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Emilis Pastry & Café. The owner and staff are also very caring and nice and take the time to answer all questions that you have.I will definitely be returning, especially for the Princess Cake, it looked beautiful and delicious. Today however I bought a chocolate mousse for a little gift and they are apparently now using styrofoam for a single slice instead of bakery box. Styrofoam looks cheap, is not good for environment and ruined the mousse because the container crushed it. The person who helped me should have realized this. Disappointed by cheap and sloppy presentation of purchase especially since it was supposed to be a little gift. I was told that perhaps owner wanted styrofoam used. Bad decision for steady customer. Will take a break from Emils.

Comment: Had the best experience here last week! My husband is from Sweden and I was searching high and low for a princess cake! The almond marzipan, cream and the jam are his favorite, he said that this princess cake here was actually the best one he had ever had, ever!!!! The espresso made me feel like I was back in Italy it was that great short strong not watery at all golden creamy texture. The right way. For real. Im Sicilian I should know. It was just the way its supposed to be. We went for our wedding anniversary and it was such a great experience the workers were so kind it was very clean and beautiful inside the prices are great also, and we were able to sit outside at their cute tables which was so nice and romantic and made for the perfect mini date! Please go to this amazing European Cafe their pastries are exquisite just as well as their cakes but I highly recommend trying the princess cake, was amazing!

She’s always personable and if you come often she encourages trying a cookie or something that I usually love and end up buying. I love the coconut cake and the princess cake with sheet icing. The Mexican wedding cookies are to die for. The bear claws are packed with shaved almonds and moist marzipan. Every cake slice is as if it were just baked. The main thing I love is this bakery takes the flavors of every bakery item and doesn’t kill it with sugar overload. It’s truly European.

Comment: The princess cake was the best Ive had in L. A. The elements are hard to perfect and they did a great job, especially the perfectly thin . flavorful and masterfully placed almond fondant.Very good and easy service. Parking int he building may be avail, but that is not clear.

Comment: Very nice display cabinet. Tried the wedding cookies, molasses raisin cookie and a twist. The molass cookie was very tasty. The others were ok. The service was was slow. Oh, the bags are noisy if you are getting your treats for the movies. The lady that helped our group was quite unfriendly-- this is close to the movie theater so just hope you dont get helped by the same person who helped us. I would give them another chance since they are well located.

Comment: Their cream puffs had a bland gelatine textured custard filling that Im not a fan of. That said nearly everything else Ive had I have loved. Their cookies and cakes are great. The princess cake is a surprising favorite.

Comment: Emils is my FAVORITE bakery in West Los Angeles. It definitely reminds me of a classic European cafe - no rush to get you in and out, quality food and a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere. They make fruit tarts, a whole slew of amazing cookies and pastries and wonderful coffee.
