Elixir Espresso Bar
1753 Garnet Ave, San Diego, CA 92109, United States
Yet another demonstration that atmosphere, style and good service A GOOD CUP OF ESPRESSO DO NOT MAKE. It is nearly impossible to get a decent cup of espresso in California. Elixir is not an exception this sad rule. Nice folks, luxurious place, but if the damn “top of the line” coffee machine is not properly set you get the the same burnt, acid shot of espresso every time. I have traveled from NorCal to SoCal for 10 days now, and still haven't had a decent espresso. Elixir gets the review, but the same could be said of every place I stopped at from San Francisco to San Diego. The disappointment has become like clockwork on this trip. At an average of $3.50 per cup, no less. Last time I travel without my Moka stovetop machine.
Espresso Mio
3409 First Ave., San Diego, CA 92103, United States
Rented a VRBO in Hillcrest last minute for me and my family to escape the AZ heat over July 4th weekend. Had dinner first night at Mia Trattoria right next store (great food and atmosphere.) Walking home we noticed Espresso Mio and I made a mental note to check it out the following day. Kim turned out to be an absolute joy to talk to and I made it a point to return every morning of our short five day stay to get coffee and espresso for my wife and me. Will definitely make it a point to stop by whenever were in SD.
Zumbar Coffee & Tea
10920 Roselle St, San Diego, CA 92121, United States
This review is coming from a non-coffee-drinker, so please take this with a grain of...coffee grounds? My coworkers rave about this place. It is apparently an amazing coffee shop. For me, Im delighted that they carry the absolutely mind-blowing almond croissants from Opera Patisserie, which is nearby, but Zumbar is more convenient. Something for everyone! However. This place is so, so noisy inside. Its also not a great use of space. There are a few tables along the edge and a big open space in the middle, a couple tables outside. People who are waiting for their order are awkwardly splayed about. The machinery is really loud, so you probably arent going to be talking to someone else much, anyway. Ive taken a client here and sat outside and it was still difficult to have an informal meeting here because of the noise and the rickety chairs and tables. I feel like this coffee shop cant quite decide if it is counter service only or if it is trying to be a place people come hang out. What I would likely do, if anyone asked me (they wont) would be to put a thick piece of plexiglass behind the cashier, between him/her and the equipment, which is large and looks vaguely impressive. That way, if showing off said mysterious machinery is important, it can still happen, but contain the noise more. To me, the back area with all the things doesnt look particularly like something one really needs to show off to enhance the experience, but what do I know.In any case, stop by to pick up an almond croissant or other assorted and delightful pastries, and even coffee if you are into that kind of thing, but save your ears and get everything to go.
Pacific Bean Coffee
712 Garnet Ave, San Diego, CA 92109, United States
Our friend found this place last time we were in California, July 17th, and its the best! The lady who helped us was so knowledgeable and helped us find the best drinks. I got their Milk Thai tea drink which was fantastic. Perfect blend of sweet and that great Thai tea flavor. I also got Boba in mine which made it even better. My fiancé who isnt a big Boba or coffee or milk tea fan tried the Hales mango sunset and he loved it. Very fresh and refreshing flavors. Perfect for someone who just wants to try the place out. Our friend both days came in and asked for a good espresso coffee mix and he loved it so much the first day we had to some with and try it for ourselves. We loved and next time we are in the pacific beach San Diego area we will definitely come back to this place! Come try it out I highly recommend it!
Peets Coffee
350 University Ave Suite D, San Diego, CA 92103, United States
I was there today, 9/17/2021 at 1:45 PM. My order was one Caramel Frappuccino and one dark chocolate almond milk mocha size large. The person at the register was nice at first however took the time to cancel my order when I asked for coconut syrup to be added. In doing this he/they also changed the milk to 2%. upon realizing this, I took said coffee and gave it away to the receptionist at my doctors office and returned to purchase a new mocha with the correct milk as I am lactose intolerant. Upon going in to order a second time with the same Super Skinny Barista, I spoke up as to clearly say I would like, AN ICED DARK CHOCOLATE MOCHA MADE WITH ALMOND MILK NO WHIP CREME AND 4 PUMPS OF COCONUT SYRUP. to which he replied are you sure?, you know theres a bunch of simple syrup and chocolate in there already? I asked him to please take out the simple syrup.I normally would not have a problem but they way his tone was and how he looked at me was unacceptable. Yes, I am a heavy person, but Im still a customer, The way he looked at me and how he asked if i was sure, just made it seem like he was calling me fat.I have never felt as low as that person made me feel over a coffee... please teach your employees to be nicer. thats all i ask. I paid for my second coffee in full not mentioning that the first was incorrect. I did not yell or make a scene but the way i felt after leaving was not how i wanted to feel.
Finjan Coffee Shop Co.
9119 Clairemont Mesa Blvd g, San Diego, CA 92123, United States
Finjan Coffee Shop might be the best coffee shop Ive ever been to based on the cleanliness and decor of the coffee shop, the quality of the drip coffee, the overall menu offerings, and the friendly staff.I came to Finjan about five times over two visits to San Diego in March and April, 2024. I stayed at the nearby Courtyard San Diego Central (which just completed a full renovation) so this coffee shop was nearby. Finjan is a Turkish coffee shop so some of the menu offerings are specific, which is great! The drip coffee is on par with the best drip coffee Ive ever had. My coworker ordered a pistachio latte that she said was exceptional. It tasted great and looked good with a simple garnish. I also tried the Turkish coffee which was also very good. I dont like Turkish coffee as much as drip or espresso, but it was one of the best Turkish coffees Ive ever had and the presentation is unmatched by any other coffee shop Ive been to. Finally, homemade baklawa and knafeh are offered and will not disappoint. The location of Finjan is great if you are in Kearny Mesa, Convoy District, or driving along HWY 163 Cabrillo Freeway. The MTS 25, 235, and 928 busses have stops walking distance on Clairmont Mesa Blvd. The Spectrum Center office complex is to the south and the MCAS base is to the north. Finjan is in a great spot for a to go order or to dine in.
Lestats on Park
4496 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92116, United States
I have been to other Lestat's in San Diego and loved it. This was my first time coming to lestats on park since I just moved to this area, but I was unfortunately disappointed with the rude attitude given to us by the worker. My partner and I ordered 2 of the same coffees and 3 breakfast sandwiches. After we were done ordering, the worker said “I'm the only one on right now so if you want me to make 3 sandwiches it might be a little while.” Sure, no problem. It's Wednesday morning at 815am, we're in no rush. But the attitude was uncalled for. A minute after we ordered, we realized we forgot to ask for our coffees iced. We promptly went up to the counter to notify the same worker that we would like them iced, and we were met with a massive eye roll followed by him shaking his head and staring up at the ceiling as if we just asked him for a completely different drink altogether. From the time we ordered, to when we received our completed sandwiches, there was only one other customer that needed to be helped. Another woman came out from the back to help that customer. I understand he may have been frustrated that he was the only one working that day, but I do not believe our order was unreasonable and it was extremely rude for him to give us such an attitude. Immediately regretted tipping him $14. Disappointed.
Peets Coffee
Terminal 1, 3225 N Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92101, United States
Heading back home from our wonderful San Diego trip, a quick ice coffee and a couple of fruits along with some tea is what we needed to unwind before boarding the plane. Peets Coffee at San Diego International Airport Terminal 1 gave it all to us and that to in such a quick turnaround time. amidst the chaos.Peets Coffee is conveniently located in Terminal 1 (as well at Terminal 2) of the San Diego International Airport, making it an accessible choice for travelers looking to satisfy their caffeine cravings or grab a quick bite before a flight. Its location definitely played a big role in us stopping by and refueling before we relaxed for a bit and headed out back home.Given the fast-paced nature of airports, Peets Coffee staff does a commendable job of maintaining efficiency while serving a steady stream of customers. They are friendly and professional, ensuring that you get your coffee/tea fix without unnecessary delays. A bi shoutout to Olga, who was a phenomenal host and got us through the ordering process and handing over our orders in no time.As with many airport establishments, prices at Peets Coffee in Terminal 1 are on the higher side compared to regular coffee shops. While its expected to pay a premium for the convenience of an airport location, it can be a bit of a surprise from the standard Peets Coffee prices. One drawback is the limited seating available at this airport location. It can be challenging to find a spot during peak travel times, and the seating area may feel a bit cramped. However, this is a common issue at airport cafes. Not complaining, simply stating!!!To more coffee, tea and snacks at this Peets Coffee location!!!Cheers
Daniels Coffee
1770 Village Pl, San Diego, CA 92101, United States
Daniel and Natalie have catered for me and my company 2 years in a row (2022 and 2023). My company hosts meetings within a local hotel for a conference each year and we like to have a private barista operating from 8:30am-5:30pm in our private space. So many great things to say about Daniel and Natalie. They are overall genuine and kind people. Their customer service is top notch. They are attentive, extremely helpful, and always kind to our guests. Their drinks are amazing - previously, I never was particular or adventurous when it came to coffee, but since utilizing their service, I am a changed woman! They offer a great variety of creative drinks and always ask whether you want regular milk or milk substitute. The coordination with them was seamless - emailed to arrange the date, scheduled time for setup, made payment online. They showed up on time and were quick to setup the portable coffee cart. They used my company-logo-branded stencil to add a branding moment to our clients drinks.Overall, very happy with their service. Highly recommend them.Wish they would come to Austin :)
Starbucks
3707 N Harbor Dr, San Diego, CA 92101, United States
This is what happens when the Starbucks product is inside the airport, but its staffed by slow airport employees. The Monopoly of food services at airports in the United States forbids real Starbucks employees from making their own product inside of the airport. This is why you get the same taste, but with none of the standards, efficiency or urgency that a real Starbucks barista would use in making your coffee.Today, at 6:00am, I waited for ten minutes in a slow-as-molasses line and finally gave up. Not the start to my day Id hoped for. I have had coffee from this location in the past and they are consistently slow. I can honestly say that 99% of airport Starbucks locations are incredibly slow compared to any normal Starbucks stores. So, next time you head to the airport, youre much better off hitting your local Starbucks or anything off the airport site. Otherwise youll be glancing nervously at your watch like most of the people I was in line with, trying to decide whether a cup of coffee is worth missing a flight for.#starbucksfail #hmshost #airportmonopolies
