Comment: Wow. I will be back to buy their beans. My God that was an excellent cup of coffee. Got the Ethiopian pourover and it was extracted _perfectly_. Lemon-y, citrus, sweet flavours with a more tea-like body, but still great mouthfeel. I enjoyed it so much.The location is a bit small. Its got the coffee shop vibes but might not be the best for staying and working. Great spot for a quick grab and go though!Love this spot, would highly recommend!

Comment: I was out for a morning walk while visiting San Jose and walked by this coffee house by my hotel. It was around 8:30am and the line was out the door! I was intrigued. It must be a good spot if there was such a long line...right? I didnt want to wait in the long line so I decided that I would continue my walk and see if the line had died down when I got back. Sure enough! About 45 minutes later there was no line out the door so I proceeded in to check out what all the hype was about.I found only one person in line and decided I would order a cup of java to see how it was. I actually ordered an americano with oat milk and decided to enjoy it there.The barista was very friendly and didnt seem rushed or like he was in a hurry to get my order and move onto something else. I felt welcomed and it felt like a homey, small town coffee place to me.Inside was clean with some tables and some bar seating. There was also a roaster in the corner where they roast their beans onsite. The vibe was comfortable and relaxing. I sat at the bar that was in front of the window where I enjoyed my coffee and people watched.The coffee was amazing! It was smooth and had a great flavor. You could definitely taste the difference between this coffee and Starbucks. No comparison. This was more European-like and had a fresh roasted taste. Definitely worth the money!Next trip to San Jose I think I will try their food also. So many yummy looking offerings.Dont miss this place!

Comment: Lively and friendly coffee roaster. Cortado with oat milk was perfectly prepared and tasty. My wife’s decaf Americano tasted great too. Surprisingly flavorful without having to add any creamer/sweetener. Place was busy when we were there, yet staff was calm, quick, and friendly. I got a ham and cheese croissant, which was delicious. My only suggestion would be to hide some of the items that looked like they belonged in storage. They detracted from the overall welcoming environment.

It has both indoor and outdoor seating, an eclectic but fun style inside, and it is easy to relax and work on occasion in this place. When Im able, I like to sit in the little table by the entrance next to an interesting tree art display, it feels almost like a little private booth.Their pastries are very nice, I always enjoy their coffee cake or banana bread- theres something about them which appeal to me and I look forward to enjoying when I come by here. For a drink, they have some very nice options which I alternate between - a Nutella Mocha, a Viennoise, or their pour-overs are my preferred options.They have some great lunch options as well, I like their avocado and egg crostini, which is basically a toast of the same name - and delicious too. They also have various freshly pulped carbonated fruit drinks, sort of like a spritzer without the alcohol. They are delicious and taste very fresh.The baristas are always very industrious, friendly, and eager to serve. Overall a nice place to add to your coffee routine.

Being on Market St in DTSJ the sit-down atmosphere is as good as it gets for sidewalk seating overlooking a busy street surrounded by high-rise hotels. Its more of a grab and go place for coffee, which is what most of us cone in for anyway ☕️🏃‍♂️👍

Comment: For those of you that dont understand why you would ever want to Strike Twice, how Voltaire helps with that, or what any of this has to do with coffee or tea, Ill explain.First, if youre going to strike while the iron is hot (as they say to do), why NOT Strike Twice? Two is better than one. Dorinthea loves seeing two counters on her Dawnblade, so why would you be of the same mind?Second, Voltaire enables you to Strike Twice with as few as two resources. Its hard to say what that means in todays economy, inflation and all, but finding a Crazy Brew to help you Go Again or give you that +1 pump is a wonderful thing. Last, how does this apply to caffeine? How DOESNT it apply?

Comment: Amidst the espresso options downtown the modest Voltaire establishment easily rises to the top. The cappuccino is the very best Ive tasted, from a medium roast thats a little more bold than fruity, happily bucking the trend thats overtaken so many other espresso establishments in recent years. Voltaire stands apart in one other important way: it may be the last remaining cafe where one can enjoy a drink without the house music blasting and overwhelming the experience.

We came across this place when we were looking for a breakfast place while staying at the Hilton San Jose and it was a gem of a find.I ordered the Avocado and Egg Crostini and hot cup of Latte - both were delightful. The food was presented well with a generous serving of avocado (which is rare). The paprika on top added a nice touch to it and woke up the dish! My friend ordered the fresh fruit guava sparkler and said it was also great!Service was quick, efficient and with a smile. when we requested that they add the pesto to the sandwich after we had ordered and paid for our meal, they happily obliged. I was expecting a vibrant, piping hot coffee with a bold flavor. Instead the coffee was less than hot and lacked the flavor characteristic of a Flat White.For that reason I conferred a two star on what otherwise is a nice cozy shop with comfortable seating and mellifluous jazz in the background. Comment: Giving one star for customer service. I ordered an iced chai latte with oat milk and the drink tasted spoiled (I had it before, so I knew something wasnt right). The employee simply checked the date on the Oatly box and said, its not expired and the drink is good (without tasting the milk). She also wouldnt remake the drink (I guess thats their policy). I left without my drink for which I paid $6. Very disappointed that this place doesnt care about happy customers. Wont be coming back.

Comment: Things started out wonderfully, I asked for an Expresso shot with sparkling water on the side. Server that helped me out said that they had Espresso with Tonic water, I asked what was the difference. She explained that it was the same as sparkling water but goes along better with Expresso.First off, they mix it together. I am used to it being on the side or asked if I want it mixed. The problem was that the Tonic water they use has sugar in it. Its not like other Tonic waters and definitely not similar to the sparkling water I requested originally.I informed the server that since I am fasting I dont want sugar and would just like to buy a bottle of sparkling water and get a shot of espresso. She charged me for another shot and the sparkling water. When I asked if the charge for the shot was a mistake, she said no. I informed her that I just paid for a shot and did not receive what I thought I would, her reply was that she will charge me again since I want a shot with sparkling water.I dont expect anything free but feel like they should have either better explained the difference between the sparkling water and their Tonic water or take care of the additional espresso shot.The most important thing in business is to take care of your customers, treat your customers the way they want to be treated. They definitely lost a customer.

Only improvement suggested could be more transparency about the coffee roasting (i.e. putting roast dates on the bags for sale, and strength of roast Medium/Dark, et) - for those of us that are unnecessarily picky about coffee beans. :p[The Coffee]The coffee here is great. We got espresso and a cafe latte. What I noticed immediately is that this shop puts heavy emphasis on the quality of the coffee. The flavor here was off the charts. We ordered the drinks without any sugar so we could focus on the taste of the coffee, and we were super impressed! 10/10 for the coffee!We normally buy bags of fresh roasted coffee from the shops in the Bay Area and found this shop via Google. As I noted above, the only improvement could be a little more transparency about the coffee roasting dates and strength. It would help those of us that are picky and too shy to ask the staff![The Location]The vibe here is really nice. Younger staff that seems pretty knowledgable about the coffee, the roasting process, and the coffee offered. I really enjoyed visiting this shop. Its in a neat little location. Parking can be difficult but there is a parking lot nearby for 7$. If its a quick trip, just park anywhere and have someone watch the car when the ticket writer comes!

Their talented baristas do “latte art.” Besides doing the standard “leaf” or “heart” with the milk foam, ask for an “animal,” such as a dog or bear. It will make you smile!Voltaire also serves delicious sandwiches and light fare. Their version of avocado toast with hard boiled egg (cooked to perfection) is definitely a “must try.”With its coffees, Voltaire has both dairy and non dairy milks (soy, almond, coconut, and oat) to choose from.Place is big enough with floor to ceiling windows looking out on S Market Street where you can either sit or stand inside or grab a table to sit and enjoy a great tasting and looking coffee served in a porcelain cup (no paper cups here!). Comment: Small, cute place. Not busy when I arrived. I cannot say enough about the good service from nice girl that made my espresso and Americano. Immediately greeted me. No line or wait, but I can honestly say Ive never seen someone work so quickly before. She has quite the fire in her! My espresso was out with complementary sparkling water in under 3 minutes. Delicious! And very soon to follow came one of the best americanos Ive ever had. She even managed to make a bit of small talk while doing this all. All this while some fun poppy instrumental music played over great sounding floor standing speakers in the corner. It reminded me of Django Reinhardt or something like that. All around, excellent experience. Highly recommend for ambience, staff/service, and high quality of product.

Comment: Directly across from the convention center, this is a prime place to get a cup of coffee and light morning fare. I like that your choice comes in a really cup and not a paper cup. Service here is a bit slow but they make decent cup of coffee. The place is clean and dirty tables are quickly cleared for the next customer.

The coffee they make here is unique and tastes lovely!I highly suggest trying out the Viennese Coffee (lightly sweet, with whipped cream), order it for in house. And theyre Breakfast Bagel on an Everything Bagel hits the spot!If you are a lover of coffee, coffee shops, and good music, I highly recommend coming here. And it doesnt seem to be too busy in the mornings between 6-9am. Im definitely coming back!!

Comment: Voltaire has a modern, office-building style feel with tall windows and lots of natural lighting. Here, they offer (specialty) coffee at a steeper price-point..which makes me a bit hesitant to frequent here.Still, for our first visit here, we ended up getting some coffee to share over a room-temperature liege waffle -- and then more coffee to-go afterwards...Food & Drinks:- Iced Americano: Flavorful, non-bitter taste. Iced. Pretty good! Could still taste the coffee flavor over ice.- Matcha latte: This really hit the spot! I love anything matcha, and despite being mixed with milk, there were still hints of matcha flavor -- a perfect blend of both milk + matcha flavors.- Cold Brews: On the way out we decided to grab coffee to-go, it was an opportunity to try out some more of their coffee. These were iced, and the list of cold brew using different beans varied in price tag. The two flavors we got were distinct in its own flavors, and surpassed my expectations of the cold brews Im used to getting from chain coffee shops.- Liege Waffle: Wow, this was disappointing. Small in size, room-temperature, stale texture... There wasnt really anything special about this at all. Its entirely hype! Save your money. I wasnt even offered a plate. Dont get me wrong, it tasted good, but its not as good as it looks, nor does it meet up to any sort of expectations.Service:- Pretty good, though Ive had better service elsewhere. The staff behind the counter wasnt all that warm, and I cant even really remember if she offered help with the menu.Environment: Clean, empty, quiet, modern.Final thoughts: Would be back... rarely. Good coffee, but still overpriced despite being specialty. Liege waffle not worth the money.

Comment: Ive been here a couple of times and really love their coffee. Ive had the regular Latte and Spanish Latte. If you dont like your lattes too sweet, ask for half sweetness on the Spanish Latte. Its very good and not too sweet.
