Comment: It’s pretty busy in the afternoon to dinner since it’s near UC berkeley and it’s at berkeley downtown. Staff are great especially the korean or I’m not really sure her ethnicity but she’s asian for sure. Thank you for your great service!! :)For the food, it’s great as well. i love how they present the food and it’s delicious!! 😍😍

Comment: Great selection of photo-worthy and well-flavored Korean, Japanese, and Thai influenced desserts. The double fromage lychee cheesecake had a great texture, and was very refreshing and light. They were fresh out of the honey yuzu cheesecake (not surprised-it’s one of their most popular items!) when we visited, but we had fun peeking at the tables to the right and left of us to start planning what else we wanted to order on our next visit.

Comment: All the desert I tried at this place is all excellent! I highly recommend volcano shaved ice:) However, I had a terrible experience at this restaurant. The staff were rude and unhelpful. I asked wifi passcode after order and staff keep ignored me. They even ask me to leave before I finish my food because they have big-party reservation at that time. I would not recommend this place due to service issues..

Comment: The bingsoo is perfectly fluffy, snowy, and flavorful. The tea drinks and boba are top notch. The chicken and waffles are amazing but unfortunately they were out of stock the last time we were here. We’ll be back to try more of the menu, but couldn’t resist getting the hojicha bingsoo for the second time.Great for going out for dessert and maybe even an actual meal.

Comment: The boba drinks were great, but service to be seated and take orders was really slow. Like 10 minutes to be seated (no wait) or 20 minutes to take our order. They need to get more staff for waiting tables in the restroom. The tables are really cramped and close together, although there was a bar area (that no one was seated at).

Comment: Really liked this place!Service was very fast if slightly brusque, understandable as they are probably very busy there weren’t that many staff working at 2pm on a Wednesday. As two we shared jasmine rose tea and a Hojicha Banoffee. It was like a layer of chocolate crust, fudge bananas, with cream and another layer on top I didn’t really identify because we ate it too fast. Excellent. The powdered hojicha on top added an excellent bitter and nuanced counterpoint.Tea was also very good. Reminds me of a mix of a good modern dessert shop from Japan / Taiwan Hong Kong / Bangkok…Music was a bit loud for me personally.

Comment: Love this place! Thankfully they have outdoor seating on the sidewalk -- not in the street. Plus, there are roll down plastic wind screens. The desserts were down right terrific. We enjoyed two Bingsoo, and a Thai tea crepe cake for four of us. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. Definitely coming back.

Comment: Maybe Im too old for this place. The app is a requirement, but does not make it easy to order. Luckily, a hostess came up and took my order. And then they have wine and beer displayed as you come in. But those are apparently a display and not on offer. (A problem that they could fix in 60 seconds if they wanted to.) So failing basic ordering and truth in advertising requirements. I hope you have better luck here than I did.

Comment: After hearing about this place for a long time, I finally made it for someones birthday. Its hard to describe, but essentially its elaborate (and pricey) desserts with a small offering of savory food.We went at night and there were changing neon lights that sort of gave it a club feel but it wasnt too loud and there were plenty of seats on a Sunday. They are famous for their beautiful bingsu which is very finely shaved ice treats with toppings. They also have slices of cake that are so so. And croffles among other things. It was a fun experience and good for a special treat but probably would not make this a regular event.

Comment: I visited U :Dessert Story with my friends on a Monday night and we were pleasantly surprised by the variety and quality of the desserts. The place is cozy and cute, with a nice outdoor seating area. The service was friendly and attentive, and the menu had a lot of options to choose from.We ordered the mango sticky rice toast, the Thai tea brick toast, the matcha mochi, and the volcano bingsu. All of them were delicious and beautifully presented. The mango sticky rice toast was my favorite, with fresh mango slices, coconut cream, and crunchy toast. The Thai tea brick toast was also very good, with a rich and creamy Thai tea flavor and a tea pour over. The matcha mochi was soft and chewy, and the volcano bingsu was refreshing and fruity. The portions were generous and the prices were reasonable. I would definitely recommend U :Dessert Story to anyone who loves Asian desserts or wants to try something new and different. It is a great place to enjoy a sweet treat with your friends or family.

Comment: I tried the Mango Sticky Rice Bingsu at U: dessert story, and it was awesome! The way they served it looked really cool, with shaved ice, mango chunks, and coconut milk all mixed in. It tasted so good – the mango was sweet and juicy, and the sticky rice added a nice chewy texture. They gave a big portion, so its great for sharing. The place had a cozy vibe, which added to the experience. If you like Bingsu or just want a tasty dessert, definitely give the Mango Sticky Rice Bingsu at U: dessert story a shot. The cake came with red bean paste and some sort of matcha icing topping. Even though the slice was small, was rich enough to split between two people. We told the servers and they are not even apologegic for it. Of course they took the bingsu back and gave us a “new one” but didnt even say sorry or anything. felt like they didnt care, maybe because the workers are only part time young/employee/student? Not sure but definitely would not recommend. There were a lot of flies and insects the whole time we were there and too pricey as well. Not worth it

Comment: I love their desserts/wish there were more gluten free options. However, I tried to sit inside with my task-trained service dog today and the worker denied us access. They asked to see her “ID” at which point we informed them that real service dogs don’t need identification and the Americans with Disabilities Act does not require any form of license or ID. The worker told us we could sit at the table next to the door if we wanted to sit inside. I was beginning to panic so we acquiesced and sat at the table by the door but I have the right to sit anywhere a paying customer without a service dog would. Service dogs are legally medical equipment and have full access rights. I do not blame the specific worker though I do think everyone should be versed in disability rights. It is the responsibility of the business to educate their employees on how to handle dogs in the business. If you didn’t know I’ll tell you now: when a dog comes into a non-pet friendly establishment you may ask 2 questions: 1. Is it a service dog? And 2. What tasks has the dog been trained to do to mitigate disability?Do better please.

Comment: The Thai tea toast is so delicious!!! We ate it second after finishing the mango sticky rice bingsu and it was still so delicious. The toast was hot, and so soaked in the sweet sauce; the texture of the bread was lovely and came in lovely presentation with fruits. The mango sticky rice bingsu was also really delicious, with a really nice fine bingsu texture, not just chunks of ice. The quality of all the fruits they used was really high too. Not a huge fan of the sticky rice but that might just be me. The drinks are not really worth it. I got a matcha strawberry fizz and the matcha flavor was not super strong and the drink was pretty watery, pretty much just like strawberry lemonade. My friend got the blue lychee drink which was pretty good but tasted like any lychee tea drink with popping boba. Really nice environment and good service too!

Comment: Was a bit skeptical at first look of the menu. We ordered the thai boba and lychee flavor shave ice.Wow... Was really blown away. The thai tea flavor was amazing. Had condensed milk whipped cream that was sweet and paired perfectly with the less sweet Thai tea flavor. The texture was great and very satisfying. The spicy lychee was equally fantastic.Would go back in a heartbeat. Its not on the cheaper side but, dor a special occasion or guilty pleasure, this is a great spot. I didnt even get to try the cakes.Well be back foe sure!

Comment: Desserts are tasty, food/snacks are mid, and drinks are meh at best. Everything is super expensive, even for Berkeley/Bay Area. Just to give you an idea, the Peach Apricot Tea is $8.00, and it’s literally just a tea bag in hot water.I’ve been half a dozen times and have come to the conclusion that only the dessert toasts and bingsoo are worth getting (they’re still a splurge but are very yummy, and nowhere else makes toast/bingsoo as good).Something to be aware of if you’re in a party of 6 or more: the total purchases of your party must equal at least $8 times the number of people in your party. Additionally, they’ll automatically charge 22.05% gratuity without telling you… but the receipt only lists it as 20.00%. And the payment screen on the card reader still asks if you’d like to tip even more (again, without making clear that you’ve already paid 22.05% tip). Its a deceitful and unethical business practice if you ask me.

Comment: Stood outside for 30 minutes to get a table (thinking with a wait like this, it must be good right?) finally got seated at a soaking wet table, with a giant puddle on the ground. Seating was entirely way to close to other tables. You can hear the faint sound of tejano music from the exposed to the public kitchen over the extremely packed and speaking over each other patrons. I feel sorry for the clearly over worked servers (2) who have to try and manage; seating, taking orders, serving, cleaning the tables (with a soaking wet towel which explains the puddle). The lychee cake was decent but the latte was horrible the beans were clearly burnt.

Comment: Omggg this place was delicious. I got a Thai tea crepe cake and it was amazing. For those wondering, it was not too sweet and really tasted just like the tea. Sooo good. Our server was quick and attentive and the place has such good vibes inside. It’s definitely pricey ($14.50 for this slice) but honestly worth it. We were staring at everyone else’s desserts. Will come back if I’m in the area again!!

Comment: Very cute dessert but overpriced date night spot. All the items are soooo IG worthy. We got the Thai tea brick toast which was pretty sweet, so we’ll try the honey brick toast next time. The mango sticky rice bingsu was also very good and refreshing. Pass on the matcha mochi, it was way too earthy. What I didn’t like was the mandatory 20% tip. And then when they give you the ereader for the receipt, it has the audacity to ask for even more tip.

Comment: Always a great place for dessert! Love the flavor combinations and choices for upscale sweets. The only thing about the hojicha bingsoo that I didn’t think worked was the brownie bits at the bottom. Cold, hard and dry pieces of brownie doesn’t really mix with shaved ice in my opinion. The vegan option comes with jelly instead which is great combination!

Comment: I had terrible experience with Birthday cake order at the store. I strongly advise others to think twice before ordering from this store. Their lack of professionalism and poor management is a clear red flag, and its not worth risking your special occasions over. There are plenty of other bakeries out there who respect their customers and understand the importance of delivering on their commitments.I had placed an order for a birthday cake a day in advance, making sure they had it in their inventory. They sent me a confirmation email. However, when I called to pick up my order, the store staff were unable to locate my order initially, causing unnecessary confusion and delay. As if that wasnt enough, they later informed me that they had already cut the cake into slices, completely ruining the purpose of ordering a whole birthday cake. This isnt merely a case of miscommunication; its a gross negligence of customer service and a total disregard for the importance of special occasions for customers. I am extremely irate, disappointed, and let down by this incident. It was supposed to be a simple task of ordering a cake for a loved ones birthday, but it ended up in unnecessary stress for me.

Comment: The food is great. But this place is really cramped seating inside. And they tend to have a very busy line out the door on weekend nights. Go on a weekday and definitely try the croffle sampler, with 3 different croffles. You can split it with a friend or have your own order all to yourself.

Comment: We came on a Friday night around 8~9pm and was seated quickly even though the place was packed. Love the cute designs and we were lucky to get the sofa seats - so comfy! The choco bingsoo was really good with a rich and deep chocolate flavor which is balanced out by the salted cream cheese. The Thai tea crepe was also good, tasted just right but I thought the layers would be more thin.

Comment: This place is busy. Workers are quick and efficient. Really loud when its full inside. Portion size is decent for what you pay for. Was a little confusing as there were QR codes on the tables but wasnt sure if we used those to order or just used it to view the menu (which is massive and overwhelming ). Turns out a server takes your order. Overall, just ok if you are in the area and craving something sweet.

Comment: Just went for dessert. Place is a bit crowded/tight. First was told it might be a 30 min wait and there didn’t seem to be a waiting list but then they said someone was leaving. Service was quick from there. The dessert is definitely a two person dessert and is around $18-20. Not my particular style and mango isn’t in season at the moment (not the shops fault) but my gf liked the place overall.

Comment: The service for pickup is absolutely atrocious here. The toast app said the order would be ready at 9:33PM, and it was not ready til 9:50PM. None of the waitstaff acknowledged our presence though we were in the restaurant for 20 minutes before we finally picked up our order after 9:33PM, and we were sitting right at the bar. By the time the order came out, the croffle that we ordered has been sitting out on the counter for 20 minutes because they couldnt somehow slice two pieces of crepe cake at the same time??? Honestly, I would not come back just on the basis of this experience.

Comment: These bingsoo flavours are absolutely delicious- whoever came up with them is an absolute genius. They come with condensed milk on the side too so if you don’t have a massive sweet tooth you can skip it- the syrups on the ice are already pretty sweet. Our server was also very attentive- she knew we wanted to order the shaved ice after our potato wedges so she came to take our order when she noticed us finishing our food. I ordered fried chicken (6pcs - $13), takoyaki (8pcs - $9,5) and mango sticky rice toast ($19) + 2 drinks. Takoyaki here is so good, its better than takoyaki at another restaurant. Fried chicken with the handmade sauce are also good too. Mango sticky rice toast is sweet, including toast, mango, ice cream and sauce, you can try it once. And the staff here are very nice and friendly, although theyre very tired because there are so many customers coming to the restaurant today, they still smile and treat us kindly and politely.

Both were awesome but our favorite was volcano bingsoo which came with liquid nitrogen erupting from the central chute and kept the bingsoo cool. It was certainly more than enough for 3. The bottom of the volcano bingsoo also had corn cereal which added a surprise crunch.

Comment: Huge dessert menu pulled me here. Everything looked really good, but there were a few misses with our dishes tonight. The mangos in the Mango bingsu were under ripe, which had too much of a tart flavor that overpowered most of the dish. The waffles on the chicken & waffles dish wouldve been amazing if it had come out warmer, and the dish could do without having a whole flower shoved between the chicken. I appreciate that the sunny side up egg was not overcooked though. Overall the desserts were decent and the service was great.

Comment: What a unique and delicious experience! My husband said I have wanted to try this places since it opened and it was worth every penny we spent. Not only after the deserts unique and delicious, they also are plated beautifully and truly are a whole experience unto themselves. I havnt seen anything like this is Oakland or Berkeley. Be warned some of the deserts seem to be intended for sharing as they are quite massive.

Comment: The service was a bit slow, boba is too soft (not chewy), and many of the desserts are must try: crepe cake, toasts, shaved ice, and chocolate matcha lava cake. Pricey but not many places like this. Presentation is very beautiful.

Comment: Super cute dessert place and their crepe cakes were sooo good! My friends and I tried the Thai tea, matcha and young coconut. We all preferred the Thai tea one the best. The matcha is quite strong (a bit too strong for me). All of the crepe cakes were very well presented.

Comment: This place is #1 by the size of the desserts in my whole sweet tooth history:) Recommend to consider that and come here with friends or significant other and share the pleasure without overeating. Can say that the quality and taste of their desserts are well known and a bit high prices don’t stop the constant flow of sweet lovers. You can see the line at the entrance in any time of the day. Although they almost always have free seats at the bar which could be an option.I tried Thai Tea Lava toast - this was really entertaining experience:) I really liked the taste and the combo of textures (crunchy+creamy+sweet+neutral), the only thing that I’d added is a sour note (maybe berries) that could make the flavor palette more diverse. We ate that dessert together with my husband but I feel that even that half was too much for me))Really want to return there to try their famous mango sticky rice and crepe cakes.

Comment: Very very small cakes priced at 12.50 and 13.50, which is way overpriced compared to other patisseries such as Fournee(Berkeley), Tartin( SF), B. Patisserie (SF) or even One65 Patisserie (SF)-overpriced around $10 per cake.Probably will not visit again.Other places offer better cakes in terms of taste and value.

Comment: I usually love dessert story but I’m beyond disappointed. We usually order the bingsoo from Uber on special occasions and this time I decided to switch it up with their special. WORST MISTAKE. I paid $30 for a bowl of dried toast with Oreo crumbs. Definitely did not get what was advertised (see the pics) … half of the “included” ingredients, like the ice cream, weren’t even included… 😭

Comment: Huge fan of all dessert and dessert cafes in general but has to take away one star for the weird service? A friend and I were standing for almost 10 min in front of the sign that said wait to be seated when there were plenty of open seat? Anywaysss the food is AMAZING and I will have to try everything eventually hehe. It’s pricey and definitely a treat but worth it!🤩If you wanna follow me on more of noms come with me on IG: 🥰✨ @foodiefindsbyj

Comment: Although the food is good. If it wasnt id give this place 2 stars. The location needs an immediate deep cleaning. The seats are way Dusty that it doesnt look like anyone has vacuumed it for weeks. Velvet couch and pillows need daily maintaining especially if people always Touch the surfaces. I would come back for take out/delivery but not to Eat in anymore.

Comment: They have a diverse menu of desserts and teas and what we liked the most was that it wasnt too sweat. We ordered chocolate maccha lava cake, peach milk teas and earl grey which was great. Remember to mention to them whether you want iced or hot tea otherwise itll come cold. Overall we liked the experience despite their pricy menu.

Comment: An absolute must for dessert lovers. Ordered the volcanic bingsoo which is more of a treat for the eyes. Havent had shaved ice dessert before so it was really good, wish they added more chocolate in it. The other item we got was choco matcha lava cake which was heavenly. The combination of matcha and chocolate is deadly! Want to visit again, soon!

Comment: We were looking for something outside of what our hometown has to offer, and U: Desserts delivered! I was overwhelmed by the menu so we ordered three items for the group to share. The chocolate waffle and green tea parfait were the winners. The atmosphere was fun, and kid friendly. The wait staff was attentive, we will be back again!

Comment: Very poor experience. They had us waiting outside in the cold for an hour, and we only ordered 3 desserts for take-out. One of our orders (the mango sticky ice cream) had already melted by the time we had our full order. They *definitely* forgot about our order, because I went inside and saw people who arrived after us (and chose to dine in) already have their food and finished it. Didn’t even offer anything for the wait or that our order melted by then, they said “5 more minutes”.

Comment: U dessert story is where I tasted bingsoo for the first time. It was good however the rest of the items we have ordered like crepe cake lychee cake and the milk teas were average at best. The price point is also very high. It is good experience for one time but I do not know if I can justify multiple visits to this place. The order also takes a long time so plan accordingly

Comment: A little pricey but outstanding dessert. I ordered the chocolate pistachio bingsoo (choco bingsoo on their website) from this place through Uber eats. The portion is huge but it freezes well. Even with delivery the thing arrived in perfect condition and was amazing. Will definitely be trying their other desserts.

Comment: Great drinks and AMAZING desserts. Their service? Nonexistent.Pre-pandemic we ate at one of the locations in San Francisco and loved the desserts. We had the matcha lava cake, the Thai tea crepe cake, and something else I dont remember. It was so good that when we found this location in the east bay we were so excited because we could drive here and not have to cross the bridge or deal with the cold wind of San Francisco. This location is making me rethink my patronage completely. When I got home from work we decided that it would be a great celebratory treat to pre-order desserts. I put in the order a few hours ahead of time and it gave me an estimate of 7:05-7:15. We chose the Strawberry Cheese Cake Greek Togurt Bingsoo, the Chocolate Bingsoo, Young Coconut Pandan Crepe Cake, Thai Tea Crepe Cake, Hojicha Banoffe, Mango Tango Spritzer and a Blue Lychee for drinks. I thought this was great because Id be able to finish dinner and then we could head out. When we left I got a text saying the new time was now between 7:15-7:20. They had more than two hours to stew on when the timing would work for this order, but I guess they just threw that out the window. We got to the location at 7:10 and I was able to get a servers attention pretty quickly and they said it would be another 5 minutes for them to complete the order. They still had to make the drinks. Id already waited several hours anyway, so what was a few more, right? I got an Email at 7:16 saying the order was ready so I went back in. The guy preparing the drinks noticed me from earlier and said my name to hand me a big bag of desserts and then got me the drinks. It was nice that he remembered and was timely about the hand off, but that was where it ended.I put the desserts in the back seat and the drinks in the front so we could sip some while on the drive back home. We arrived back home around 8 and I started getting the desserts laid out when I noticed the reason why this review is only 1 star. After all that wait, from the pre-order, getting a new wait time, and the drive there and back, they had left off one of the items. So not only do they change the pick up time that they asked me was good for me, they left off an item that I paid for with no substitution and no mention of it when I went back into the store to pick up my order. Youd think that paying $110 with $15 tip would equate to some semblance of service, but I guess that was a mistake on my part. Either way these people were able to waste both my time and take my money without giving me what I ordered. No matter how good their desserts taste the service is bitter and rotten.TL;DL Pre-ordered $110 worth of desserts for them to change the pick-up time after left an item out that I didnt find out about until driving back home.

Comment: DELICIOUS. New favorite boba & dessert spot. Bobas are a bit on the expensive side but worth every sip imo—the tapioca pearls are to die for and they have so many types of fruit teas & milk teas etc. Love all the different varieties of dessert & snacks as well—bingsoo, crepe cakes, calamari, chicken etc etc. Love the selection. gotten both pick up and dined in (outdoors) and the service is phenomenal each time. If you dine outdoors you can order by scanning the code on the table and they will bring it out to you. Everything is perfect save for the one time they forgot boba in my milk tea in my pickup order but it’s all good 😌

Comment: Lovely presentation and space... expensive, not satisfying flavor/expectation per description and not easy to share... Basically, it’s not a $15+ Plate dessert you split- too big for one, not easy to share. Smaller piece at $9/10 would have been better...so not a place I’d frequent or come back to...

Comment: Wow....boba drink is almost $10/drink and $15/slice of cake with tax and tip. Boba tea is okay. It has unique features, but cakes are not. Most of entertainment places are closed and people only enjoys these take out food for refreshments. This place is one of them, but its too much.

It had an excellent texture, a flavorful Thai tea taste, and the sauce was sublime. Looked nice too! Right now U Dessert Story is doing takeout which you can purchase from a window. Comment: Took over this weird place that looked like it never got busy. This place? Seems to be always busy.As a new dessert place the stuff is really good, not overly sweet and the stuff comes out quickly. Only thing is they need more servers that can actually take orders since it seems to be only one guy who can, and give more water than a small splash. Like I can drink 5 of them and still be parched. It may be a instagramers paradise since their stuff is pretty aesthetically pleasing but the dessert is good too
