Comment: Not the same Tartine that I remember when I went to school in The Bay Area while back. Nostalgic and it is a delicious pastry in comparison to what I can get back at home. Still nice to bring the pastries and enjoy the sun at Dolores park.

Comment: I used to love Tartine but it has gone down hill and verges into tourist trap territory. The last few time I’ve gone I’ve been disappointed in the quality - especially at the price. $15 for a loaf a bread is just a money grab. I recommend checking out Thorough Bread, The Mill, Craftsman and Wolves etc… any of the other local bakeries will have better vibes, value, and quality. (Still sad about my soggy lemon bar)

Comment: Legendary, for a reason. I missed an appointment by a day and found myself at Tartine late early morning with minimal line and a wonder selection of deliciousness. I picked up an almond croissant for Amy which made her eyes swell with tears, maybe that was the wind, and I had the Vegan Coffe Cake, maybe it was a crumb cake…it doesn’t matter what they call it, every bite was better than the last bite, rich and moist with a thick yet light consistency. Can I have this daily??? The oat milk latte was delicious on the drive home, and the country bread served up some Beans and Toast with Iacopi Farms Canellini beans and Min Hee’s pickled onions and a dab of heat from Longer Table. As I closed the lights on the kitchen tonight, I smiled at the half loaf of Country, knowing tomorrow is going to be better than I imagined. Did I mention the vibe was energetic with a side of kindness, and a lovely soundtrack. See You Soon.

Comment: Tartine is an amazing Pastry and coffee shop. As typical there is a line up so prepare to wait at least 30 mins to an hour. The chocolate Croissants as featured on Somebody Feed Phil go fast so it is recommended that you arrive before noon if you are specifically wanting to try that. There are a multitude of other amazing deserts to try. The eclaire is like something I have never experienced. The usage of real vanilla beans is identifiable in the cream filling. The coffee is good. I would definitely recommend. If you are stopping by the painted ladies, this is a short 15 mins from that location.

Comment: I used to love the breads back in 2012-ish. Theyve gone downhill. Grilled cheese and coconut cream tart both stodgy. Morning buns looked so deflated and sad and commercial compared to when I used to get them years ago. Deli case is dark and uninviting. What a shame. Good macchiato though.

Comment: The place I crowded and seems to be very popular. The music is too loud and quite limited space to take a seat. Especially in the morning hours. The bread is really good and breakfasts are tasty. I expected much more from one of the most recommended bakeries in SF.

Comment: Food is all 1st rate.Parking is a minefield of difficult to read signs. Got two parking tickets within 4 minutes with our two visits. It’s as if parking police are waiting in hiding for you to stop and pounce. We spent $180 on two tickets. We’ll never stop here again. Instead, we’ll drop someone off.Recommendation: don’t even stop in a red or yellow area to drop someone off or you’ll get pounced on by parking zealots who write tickets faster than you can roll your window down.

Comment: I have been looking forward to Tartine since, admittedly, getting into making my own sourdough during the pandemic. I had to double, triple, check I was at the right place because there was no line (it was pouring down rain in a days long storm).Their baked goods did not disappoint. Bread and a butter was a must along with the morning bun.

Comment: 🥐 Was drawn to this bakery when we noticed a line out their door! From the bakery we tried a slice of chocolate soufflé, the pictured citrus cheesecake, and these little tarts called canela buñuelos or something along those lines. My boyfriend and I had contrasting opinions on these desserts. He found the chocolate soufflé to be too rich for his liking, personally I enjoyed it but I also prefer chocolate on the bitter side. We agreed that the cheesecake was kinda clunky and our least favorite because the citrus was too moist for the cheesecake to the point where the crust was soggy. My favorite was the canela buñuelos, the flavor reminded me of a cross between flan and crème brûlée.

Comment: 3 means good, worth a visit.Tartine confuses me a bit. They clearly know what they’re doing and they’re doing it really well. I just don’t understand why they chose to do what they’re doing. I admire their country loaf, but I don’t really like it. I prefer Acme bread. Their croissants are good, but Arsicault’s are better. I like Tartine’s cakes and buns. I was about to say it’s nice to have a location within walking distance from my apartment, but I’m not actually going to go here regularly because there’s always a line out the door with a 20-30-minute wait. Don’t get me wrong, everything is good, everything is well done, I just think they’re over-hyped. They’re a very solid 3/5. Worth visiting once or twice.

Comment: Tartine Bakery truly knocks it out of the park with their banana cream pie and croissant. The banana cream pie is so good it might just make you question all your life choices leading up to this moment—think silky cream and bursts of banana packed in a flaky, buttery crust, topped with a cloud of whipped cream thats lighter than your last diet plan. As for the croissant, it’s a golden, flaky triumph of buttery perfection. Crispy on the outside, whisper-soft on the inside, it’s what every croissant aspires to be when it grows up. Swing by Tartine and treat yourself; these goodies make getting out of bed worth it!

Comment: The morning bun is the best in town. Perfect balance of crusty sugar, subtle orange, and layers. The croissants are good, but not amazing. Ariscault wins the croissant category hands down.Their scones are OK, but my preferred scone is done by Arizmendi. These scones are sort of like a scone that wishes it was a biscuit. The cakes/desserts are delightful. Such delicious flavor and delicate creams. The bread is the unrivaled #1. How do they make their crust so crisp and the inside so soft and the loaf stay fresh for so long. Pure magic.

Comment: We tried $70 worth of bread (plain croissant, morning bun, frangipane croissant, ham & gruyere cheese sandwich, chocolate cake, banana cream tart). My husband fell in love with their chocolate cake and banana cream pie five years ago.The sandwich was pretty good. We enjoyed the sourdough bread and the whole flavor was put together nicely. Banana cream tart was not bad, but I’m certain it tastes better if you make it yourself at home. I hate to admit that the other goods were not that exciting…For their price point, we should be able to expect better products. None of our friends in the bay recommended us the Tartine Bakery and I think that means something.

Comment: So, so busy. Decent pastries, sandwiches, cakes and whatnot, but the location is so cramped and packed that Im not sure its worth it.They get so much traffic and half the people ahead of me were ordering the weeks worth of carbs. Added a lot to my wait even though I only wanted a heated croque monsieur. Wish there were a way have two queues: one for people who are looking to enjoy a pastry and another for the toilet paper hoarders. On the food: the croissant was fine, but the croque monsieur was bland. They also added a random cold carrot onto the plate that served no purpose. Would not recommend wasting $15.75 on the croque monsieur.All-in-all, the pastries were acceptable, the location is horrible and skip on the croque monsieur. Great spot for buying your weeks worth of bread but would pass if youre looking for a chill spot to enjoy a pastry and coffee.

Comment: Would give them zero stars if I could. Waited 20 minutes in line, which is pretty short but then staff took another 20 minutes to box up a simple 4 item order. When paying noticed the total was MUCH higher than expected and asked for explanation. The person working got very rude and basically shouted at me that if I couldnt afford it then I should buy the items. Well turns out they overcharged by about $15. Glad I didnt just tap and pay and walk out. When I didnt tip the same person who overcharged me had the nerve to ask whey I wasnt leaving a tip. Gee I wonder why ...

Comment: Really great quality (almost enough to make me overlook the prices!). Ham and potato quiche was delish, as were the croissants, gougère, and chocolate-rye cake I took home. The oatmeal porridge bread traveled well and made epic sandwiches. Only odd thing was that the side salad was just a bowl of romaine. Shallot dressing was nice but still… $7.75 for a bowl of romaine was disappointing.

Comment: Whilst one of our food items was good as expected, our experience was horribly soured by a couple of staff members. Our order was miscommunicated and we therefore waited 25 minutes for someone to rudely tell us the item wasn’t available anymore. After asking when our order might be ready she got noticeably disgruntled and was of no assistance. Another staff member then offered to refund the approx $10 onto our card which never came through so we paid $10 and waited 25 minutes for nothing 👍🏻Very disappointed as we were so excited to come here after seeing Tartine on Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix.

Comment: Updating for my 2nd visit December 9…..the Shitake mushroom Croque Monsieur is heavenly, even better than my fav which is ham and cheese. I happily consumed both with my wife and another applewood ham and cheese croissant for good measure as a full week had passed since first visit. The sautéed carrots served with each Croque Monsieur were superb. This time bought a monster supply for friends and neighbors who raved - and now owe me.From my first visit December 2…..Baked bread and pastries mecca with a well deserved reputation for exceptional quality. The croissants are out of this world and pretty much exceed anything Europe has to offer. The ham and cheese croissant is superb with real French Gruyère cheese and applewood ham in generous quantity that almost make a complete meal. Best I’ve had in the last 40 years, and devoured 2 for a thorough analysis. Chocolate croissants are elegantly laced with 2 bars of Valhrona semisweet chocolate that offer a rich confectionary taste bud experience. Yep - ate that too on site. These perfectly flakey, multilayered, buttery pastries were accompanied by a delicious cafe latte expertly prepared by Aaron who patiently listened to how I wanted it prepared while smiling kindly and delivered a home run. Aaron pushed service rating into 5 stars as other employees provided average service. The premises are cramped, lines are long, parking difficult. Would I go back - you bet your applewood! Thank goodness I purchased 6 more to take home as writing this review caused my stomach to growl and dig into the bag. Too bad Aaron doesn’t do house calls. Vive Tartine!

Comment: I have been thinking about my “pilgrimage” from St. Louis Missouri to Tartine for years now and yesterday I finally checked this place off my bucket list! The country loaf was outstanding! It has a simple flavor at first and then as you chew the bread the flavor evolves unleashing a mild and pleasant tangy taste. We also tried almost all their pastries that were all delicious but of course the morning bun stole my heart and now all I have is a faint memory of sweet orange zest.Everyone was kind and efficient. The staff worked energetically as they dealt with a large volume of people expediently, kindly and patiently.I’m so glad I got to visit here!

Comment: As the Tartine brand suggests, you will get great food there. However, the complete lack of organization in the store is stunning. The first time I went there I truly couldnt figure out how anything works, from ordering to how you get your order. They only have a couple of seats and with their popularity it makes it very difficult to actually enjoy what you ordered. Unless youre ordering to take away (Dolores Park is the next block) then you may not like it.

Comment: This is a cute and small bakery located in San Fransisco where they mainly serve croissants, cold and hot sandwiches and desserts such as tarts, cakes, and pies. This was my first time experience and I absolutely loved it! I ordered their spicy turkey sandwich (which wasnt spicy) which was served with a pickled carrot. It tasted delicious and was filling. The cafe also has paintings hung on walls which can be purchased. The cafe seems to be quite popular with the youth, they can be seen hanging out with their friends over a cup of coffee. Comment: Tartine is the quintessential SF bakery. Their oat porridge bread is the best sourdough I have ever had. It’s so good that it’s phenomenal just with butter…but it also makes best ever avocado toast. I also really like their apple pie, and their iced tea, which has a lot of flavor and dimension. Whenever I am up in the city I try to stop in to grab a loaf of bread, and to get guacamole and a torta from Nopalito across the street. The proximity to Dolores Park means it’s a perfect place to grab picnic snacks, and they also have outdoor seating good for coffee meetings.

Cute shop with very delicious looking pastries and fragrant fresh goods. Very quick line as they help you get your order ready. Seating fills up quickly and is very busy, still calm enough to carry a quiet conversation. Employees are friendly and corner location is convenient to find just a few blocks away from Dolores Park.

Comment: I went to Tartine Bakery specifically for the croissant, and I have to admit, it was somewhat disappointing. I was expecting a buttery, soft, and perfectly layered croissant, but unfortunately, I couldnt quite taste the butter, and the inside was a tad dry.

Comment: Pretty standard French Boulangerie fare. Went around closing time so the bread had run out 😢.The croissant was quite excellent considering it was probably baked many hours before. They very kindly also gave us a bunch of croissants on the house while closing! The lemon tart was outstanding, but I thought the famed chocolate soufflé cake was too rich and heavy. Was expecting a more fluffy mousse texture.

Comment: This place has lots of good-looking baked goods (sweet and savory), and they seem to be a very popular spot, especially at lunch hour. The smoked salmon tartine was pretty tasty, with no complaints, but a little pricey for what you get. The ham and cheese croissant was huge, with good textures, soft and flaky, and super enjoyable even at room temperature. The servers were quite friendly, too. Id be happy to come back and try more here.

Comment: Got a chocolate croissant which was filled with Dark chocolate inside. Didnt make the mark for me, but loving the Frangipani tart! Side of tart was crispy, loads of almond slices mixed in (i love almonds), overall a little sweet with nice tartiness from fruit. Goes great with coffee.

Comment: A SF legend, there is a reason this bakery has a line! MUST get a pastry (or many), especially the morning bun and croissant (chocolate and/or regular). The bakery space is small but there are outdoor tables along the side of the building. You could also walk just down the street to enjoy your tasty Tartine at Dolores Park.

Reading the first book is what brought me to my first job baking bread, six years later I was able to visit one of the locations & I couldnt be happier about it.Everything was stunning & the bread made an incredible gift for my grandparents.

Comment: I really liked the operation of the front line. I wanted to check what’s the hype about morning buns. Layers of this pastry was mushy for me like a Costco croissant. Also the line was so long and there were not enough space to ask questions because of that. I wanted to get some other pastries they are known for, but didn’t happen.

Its perfect the combination, not too sweet, the balance with the chocolate and the bread! Perfect! We also order a chocolate brioche and a croque monsieur and a regular coffee! The place is not so big, they have one restroom inside. Comment: Tartine bakery. The ORIGINAL. Established in 2002. Originally on this iconic corner of the Mission District. With lines stretching into neighbor territory, and totally worth it.Out of the many stops that my food tour - Eat the Mission - would include, this one was a staple. Sample their morning bun, or their country bread. OR their chocolate croissant or their olive loaf. Cant lose with any of these, and love that they are unionized!

Comment: Afternoon pick me up after lunch nearby. Originally planned to get the croissant but was tempted by the lemon curd tartlet and so we did get both. It turned out it did not disappoint at all. Tangy and citrusy with whipped cream on top of buttery tartlet reminds me of summer days although sadly I had this during winter. I can safely say that it tastes better than the almond croissant although itself was not too bad albeit a bit bland for my taste but my mother likes it so to each their own.

Comment: As most of the reviews note, be prepared to wait in line and for some time to receive your order. Also as most people noted, the wait is absolutely worth it! Artisanal quality, craft, and consistency is delivered here. Comment: As overseas tourists, we took a special pilgrimage of sorts to Tartine, and it was all worth it. A queue early in the morning, but with the rich smells of baked goods. We had the chocolate croissant and the morning bun, and the morning bun was something worth the wait, the pilgrimage. Cinnamon-ny, sweet, crunch, chewy and a wonderful breakfast treat.Unfortunately they were not serving coffee on that day - we hope they do so in the future, as coffee and the buns are an excellent combination.

Comment: Besides this place having great reviews has its hits and misses. We got the savory scone, the chocolate croissant, the morning bun and the bread pudding. The scone was basically just a buttermilk biscuit with a sprinkle of vegetable dust on top. It was definitely more on the savory side with a slight pepper kick, but nothing i would get again. The chocolate croissant was very elegant, crispy outside with a soft flaky inside and a bittersweet to bakers chocolate center. The morning bun was a very tasty twist on a normal cinnamon bun. It had a lemon accent added to the cinnamon sugar dusting, this made each and every bite stand out (mostly due to my head not expecting lemon with the cinnamon, but if you have ever had galaktoboureko its a good comparison for this contrast). Lastly the bread pudding was delicious, just the right amount of custard with the bread. The only complaint I can have with it is that there are two many berries which is all you can taste if you have berries in your spoon.

We came around 10 am on Monday, and there was a line that was out the door, but it moves pretty quickly.Id say that the morning bun was not as good as I expected, but the lemon tart and almond croissant are absolute musts!! Comment: What a gem of a bakery this is! We drove from Milpitas into the city just to try the bakery items here. Definitely a hyped place but what’s important is, the quality of bakery and the authentic taste is extremely well maintained, enjoyed every bite of what we ordered. There’s a line as the place is busy but it moves fast so you wouldn’t have to stand for long outside. The almond frangipane croissant was the best almond croissant I’ve ever had in my life, loved the flakiness. Also, this is the first time I have enjoyed eating pain au chocolat, the glaze on the top was amazing and the quality of chocolate inside was unbelievably great. The staff is very kind and friendly, they don’t rush on you just to keep the line moving and help you pick items if needed be. Comment: Just adding to the thousands of previous reviews of how awesome Tartine is.Things to note: prepare for long lines. You can order ahead and skip the line for pick up. No seating or eating indoors right this moment.Pastries:- I fully recommend the Almond Croissant and the Lemon Tart. The Almond Croissant is made so right - crunchy outer crust, stuffed with almond paste filling and topped with toasted almonds. Cant compare a true almond croissant to the machine made stuff you get from places like Starbucks. The Lemon Tart was a pleasant surprise because I dont usually like tart things but this tart had the perfect balance of tartness and lightness and creaminess. It was not overpowering and the texture was just so right.- The Morning Bun was just OK for me. Looked and sounded better than tasted.- The Jam Bun was also OK. I did like the cream in the middle but wish there was more of it.The Hot Chocolate was OK - chocolate flavor was mild and not too sweet. The temperature was luke warm so I wish it was a bit hotter.Still, a perfect start to my day.

Comment: We visited Tartine on a Thursday around 10 AM. The line was about 10-15 minutes. We got a half country loaf, croissant, frangipane croissant, chocolate croissant, and morning bun. The country loaf is a nice crusty bread with a slight sourness to it that reminds me of sour dough. All of the pastries were excellent and I would recommend any of them but my top two are the chocolate croissant and morning bun. The chocolate croissant had 3 bars of chocolate and was very buttery and tender. The morning bun was flakey and had great orange flavor. There was a piece of candied orange on it which was delicious! I wouldnt definitely recommend a stop at Tartine but plan to go close to opening. Arriving at 10 am, I got the last two frangipane croissants and the line was getting longer as we waited.

Comment: There is always a line, but they get people through quickly. The cakes and sweet and savory pastries all look incredible. We found the croissant was perfectly buttery, the almond croissant was a bit crunchy or overcooked, and the pain au chocolate was just right (not too sweet).

Comment: The line was out the door, but it moved quickly. I was very happy to see signage posted that a mask and vaccination was needed to be a patron, especially now in the time of Covid19. We got the sourdough, country buttermilk bread, morning bun and a croissant. They were well worth the wait in line, but maybe not the hunt for parking in through the neighborhood. Ill gladly visit again to get the sourdough as I was able to eat it without it triggering any tummy issues even though Im gluten free.

Comment: So after seeing this on Somebody Feed Phil I had to give it a try. I placed an order online directly through their website but I was disappointed to see that they were sold out of items and I had no option but to purchase a 3 pack of the brownies instead of just one. I also spent almost $50 which was pretty pricey. When I arrived to pickup my order I mentioned that I was disappointed that they were out of the chocolate croissant and they said they had some left but when they run low they remove it off their website. My items were packed in a bag and the tart was in their refrigerator. Pickup was super easy, skipped the line which wasnt too bad with about 5 people and the staff was super nice!In order from favorite to least favorite:CHOCOLATE CHIP WALNUT COOKIE $3.75Valrhona chocolate, oats, walnuts*nice texture from the oats and walnuts, wish there was a little more chocolateCHOCOLATE CROISSANT $5.75Valrhona chocolate croissant*flaky and three pieces of chocolateBROWNIE (3 PACK) $12Valrhona chocolate, spelt flour*rich and moist but a little bitterMORNING BUN $5cinnamon, sugar, orange zest*definitely could taste the orange zest, didnt love the texture of this bun4 BANANA CREAM TART $9bananas, chocolate, caramel, pastry cream, and whipped cream in a flaky shell*looked better than it tasted, bananas were the best part, the tart shell itself was very dryCOLD BREW $4.50*very watered down coffee, needed more ice but also just more flavor the coffee flavor was very minimalOverall not a bad experience but I was pretty disappointed by the pastries even the cookie and croissant. I wouldnt come back or suggest making a special trip to visit.

Comment: I came here at 7:50 AM on a Sunday morning and there was a decently long line. Luckily it moved quick once the store opened, and I was in and out of there within 35 minutes.I’m so so glad I finally got to experience this bakery!! Any fan of Tartine’s cookbooks will enjoy it here. I ordered an insane amount of items (not all pictured) for a reasonable price of $76.What I ordered sorted by recommendation:- Almond frangipane croissant (2x): Loved all the textures and flavors here! Don’t miss out on this- Tres leche cake slice: A light and fluffy layer cake that’s not soaked like a traditional tres leche. Loved the bottom puff pastry layer!- Ham+sweet pepper quiche (changes daily, 2 options given): Great breakfast item that came with a pickled carrot- Savory croissant with ham and jalapeño- Oat porridge sourdough loaf (offered in half and full sizes)- Pain au chocolat- Plain croissant (2x)- Morning bun- Gougere with black pepper: This is the only one that I wouldn’t recommend. I ate it cold since I didn’t have the opportunity to warm it up. It would be much better fresh out of the oven.

Comment: Theres a lot of hyped up food spots around the Bay Area, but Tartine is one of the few that can walk the walk. Its nestled in a small, unassuming corner store with a thoughtful variety of croissants, sweets, and breakfast treats. Each item is rather large and fairly priced. The staff is polite too. Overall, recommend checking this out.

Comment: There was a lot of hype for me for this bakery from all the reviews and recommendations from blogs! Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. The selection of items looked delectable and I had settled to try the Morning Bun for $5 (expect most of the pastries to be in the +$5 range). I had bought the bun around noon and when I took a bite, it tasted stale. I dont think it was the candied exterior. I was expecting a bite of pillowy butter melting but no it was sweet and over-priced.

Comment: AMAZING bread, hands down ridiculous. Lemon tart was to die for, so was the bread pudding. Chocolate chip cookie was a bit dry, croque monsieur was interesting but pretty good. Quite a long line - we woke up early to come here but still waited for about 30 minutes outside. Worth it, though. The food is delicious! No espresso drinks or hot chocolate.

Comment: The croissants are REALLY good!! I loved both the savory one (jambon) and the sweeter one (almond), it super flaky and crispy. Definitely one the best I had. Im so glad that I get to visit this institution. I also got the brioche bread pudding, which was my favorite besides the croissants. Its almost like a mix of egg tart and almonds and bread. The morning bun was also super flaky and layered, similar to the texture of the croissants.

Comment: Amazing bread- crisp on the outside and insanely soft on the inside. Warm and ready at 4:30 daily. I also got a morning bun- so delicious, not overwhelmingly sweet, had notes of orange which I loved. Wait on Sunday afternoon was about 30 minutes. The food is a little pricey but well worth it.update: during COVID, I believe their bread is available daily at 9:00 now.

Comment: Absolutely magnificent experience. I got there shortly after open and only had to wait a few minutes. The croissant was perhaps the best baked good I’ve ever had in my life. Crusty, flaky, airy, substantial yet light... perfection. The tarts are so impressive looking, I had banana which did not disappoint. Very creamy and not too sweet. Not cheap, but well worth the cost, wait time, trip and whatever other hurdle may present itself. Go here, you deserve it.

Comment: Dropped by to pick up a couple of pastries and ended up getting the coconut tart and the chocolate hazelnut tart. The coconut tart was AMAZING. Comment: We went here on a Saturday morning and there was a long line already. I was excited to go as I heard this bakery was good and popular. After lining up for around 20 minutes, we got inside to order. I heard the morning bun ($5) was good so we got that and the croissant with ham inside ($6).The cashier was a bit pushy. She asked us if we want anything else and we said no as we thought she was referring to food. We wanted coffee as well and thought it needed to be ordered separately as there was another station for it so I asked the cashier if we order coffee at the other area. She responded by saying thats why I asked if you wanted anything else, twice. I understand it was busy during that time but the attitude was not necessary. We waited for a seat to eat. The morning bun was not hot and was very hard. The croissant with ham was alot better as it was moist and good. The drip coffee (~$4) was good and rich though.I would be interested to try the other products as they seemed nice looking, but taking into account the price, and long wait, I think I wouldnt come too often

Comment: Tartine is hands down my favorite bakery in SF.My favorite is more show on photo attached such is the banana cream pie. There are many people takes about best pies here and there but this is the one. There butterly crust is one thing, but they lined it with coating of dark chocolate on the crust then the vanilla Custard and banana and fresh whipping cream. Only issue is its very expensive! The Guryeree is why I longer this place. I dont know a lot of places made them, great smell and tasty guryere cheese, crispy top and moist inside. Delicious! The croissants are also really butterly and good.I also tried their bread pudding which was also extraordinary. They used fresh fruit in season so the fruits choice could be different each time. The ham and cheese croissant was also delicious.

Comment: I love a good bakery as much as anyone, but Tartine is overrated. When I first came in, I was impressed by the variety. They have multiple varieties of coffee, bread, and sandwiches, in addition to pastries. However, this variety is completely counteracted by the price. Each item here was heavily marked up and, quite frankly, it wasn’t worth it.I tried the chocolate croissant and the pumpkin bread. Both were good. I don’t have any complaints. However, when you pay $6 for a croissant, you expect to be wowed.

Alternatively, you can order a pastry/dessert and itll run you around $7-9 per pastry. Definitely expensive but worth it if you appreciate an eclectic flavor profile. My girlfriend ordered a slice of passion fruit cake and loved it. I had a bite and it was killer. Comment: This neighborhood favorite is packed as usual, so I could only purchase to-go. The croissant/pastries in the glass display all looked very good, but the color overall looked a little dark to me (but maybe the local customer like it that way?).I purchased half a Whole Wheat Sesame loaf to enjoy at home; the color was also a little dark, but it was very good—very crusty on the outside but very soft on the inside, with the aroma of sesame in every bite! I also got a croissant with very good lamination.Too bad I didnt have a chance to try their sweets and pastries or coffee, nor could I wait until their baguettes are out in the PM—that will be my mission in the next visit!

The cookie was relatively thin and crispy and reminded me of Florentine cookies. The pain au chocolat tasted delicious with good quality chocolate inside. Finally, the croissant is probably the best I have ever had with countless flaky layers and a savory, buttery flavor. I will be back next time Im in SF.

Comment: This has got to be one of our all-time favorite bakeries.... The quality of the food is bar none, even compared with the best bakeries in Europe. Every time we come back to SF, we have to make a trip to Tartine.... The neighborhood has gotten a little better, but still maintains its independent and gritty vibe. The baked goods are the Stars here, and you should definitely get here earlier during the day if you want the best selections, as they do sell out. And expect long lines. Service is ok.... Comment: Ive been to this bakery several times. its a very popular place and sometimes hard to find if you dont know what youre looking for because of business doesnt have any type of signage outside. On the weekends the lines can get very long and they do have very limited seating. I always end up getting the pastrami sandwich here and some sort of dessert. Everything Ive had here is delicious but it is also a bit pricey. When youre done eating you also do need to bus your own tables. whats a little difficult is dish bins are behind the counter behind the cashier and staff is there making coffee and trying to bring out food from the kitchen.

Comment: Pastries are yummy! Worth making the trip at least once and you may find yourself going back if you live nearby or have a long stay. Not easy to get to, you could take public transportation as I did. The BART gets you close, but the bus didnt run that often on Sundays, so a half mile walk slightly be uphill then flat and a slightly rougher part of town. The line was out the door and hour after opening, but the wait from about a dozen from the door to the counter was about 20 minutes as there were 3 people behind the counter. They will do take out, but dont wait too long to eat them. The pastries were great! The croissant and morning bun were extremely flaky, crispy, and buttery, with an outstanding chocolate inside. The bread pudding was moist with fresh fruits on top and was good. The chocolate hazelnut tart was very deep and rich. Wanted a loaf of bread, but shipment hadnt arrived yet. Overall, not easy to get to (take a cab - about $5, or ride share from BART or Metro Train), but worth the effort!

Since it was a Sunday afternoon, we had to wait in line for ca. 25 minutes just to order. Unfortunately, the amount of people waiting in line in the café hurt the cozy atmosphere to sit down and enjoy your delicious treats. However, we ended up at an outdoor table around the corner from the entrance. The cappuccino ($4) was strong and delicious and the passion fruit lime cake ($6.25) was a nicely fruity and sweet dream.I will definitely come back - just not on a Sunday afternoon!

Comment: Busy on a Saturday morning around 9:45 am but the line moved quickly. There was so indoor and outdoor seating- no table serve. Pastries were amazing and large, most are sized to share. There is a restroom. The only reason I’m not giving this 5 stars is because my cafe au lait was oddly watery tasting.

Comment: Yeah so this place is good but not great. I’m not going to slobber all over while I write this review. My most upsetting dish was the Croque Monsier. I showed up early in the morning thinking I would get the best quality, but these clearly sit around for a while before they are eaten. Not great, technically, but the flavor is there waiting to be expounded upon. The sweets were obviously great though. We loved the croissants and the huckleberry tart. Would have loved to try the bread, but unfortunately it is served later in the afternoon.

Comment: One of my absolute favorite places in San Francisco. I make a stop every time I’m in town. The baked goods are amazing and the more filling breakfast options are absolutely fantastic. Get a croissant, a savory biscuit, and you MUST order the croque madame. Amazing bakery.

Comment: Got the morning bun and croissant and wasn’t too impressed by the croissant. It was pretty large though! Maybe I need to come again when it’s freshly made. The morning bun was pretty tasty but very sugary. Not sure if this place is worth the really long lines. I like the croissants from Ariscault and Les Gourmands better.

Comment: The best bakery in the bay area, possibly the west coast. Super uncommonly delicious and authentic European desserts, pastries, breads, quiche, sandwiches etc. Line is typically 20 to 30 minutes but worth it.Tip 1 - If you wait in the line once during the day and want to order something else, they allow you to skip to the front to reorder.Tip 2 - They have a 2nd location (Manufactory) with a shorter wait and easier parking, but not quite the same quality as this original one.PS - my thoughts on individual desserts:Tres Leches - Very moist cake layers with rich cream.Bread Pudding - Generous fruit included with the bread and egg mixture. A little on the sweet side but delicious.Chocolate Soufflé - Super smooth and rich. Not sweet at all so that you can appreciate the intense chocolate.Baguette - Super delicate and soft inside with slightly crunchy outside. Try to get this one in the afternoon fresh baked.Lemon Tart - A little too intense lemon flavor to me.Morning Bun - Very delicious. Sweet and buttery.Ham and cheese croissant is also a nice snack.Quiche - Delicious, perfect flavor balance.Lemon Meringue Cake - Love the lemon balance and the uncooked but toasted (with torch) meringue.

Comment: Excellent cozy bakery with fresh baked goods and good coffee too. Try the morning bun, orange tea cake, any of the quiches and croissants. Great cakes too to serve for parties. Perfect spot for weekend breakfast or brunch! Cool location in Noe / the mission. Go early when it opens to avoid long lines.

Comment: I had the morning bun, bread pudding, and gougere. The flavors in the dough were great! I thought the pudding was a little bit on the eggy side. The place is very crowded and, at one point, a distinctly aromatic homeless guy was taking it upon himself to clear peoples plates for a chance at a tip. I thought he was able to do that for far too long before he was ushered away. My rating is only for the food itself, though. I appreciate the delicacy of flavor in the dough but wasnt wowed to the point of a five star rating.

Comment: Very packed, even in the morning right after they opened. The line quickly grew out the door. Lots of fancy pastries and baked goods. A bit pricey, especially for the tarts and cakes, but its worth it.

Comment: Real French style pastry executed fabulously in a small, cozy space that features local art on the walls. Well worth the wait in line. Grab your stuff to go and sit in Dolores park, just a few blocks away.

Comment: Kudos for the Frangipane Croissant and the Morning Bun. The frangipane was excellent and we loved the caramelization on the morming bun. The Pain au Chocolat was not exceptional though. The coffee was just there, nothing noteworthy.

Comment: The line here is not for the weak. Coming here with a family will mean an argument for sure! Thankfully, the quality of the breads made up for the nightmarish wait. Service was also very nice and relatively fast! The croissant was like nothing Ive ever had. Got shudders from how good it was. The almond cream croissant was sold out- I could only imagine how good that wouldve been!I dont understand what all the fuss was all about regarding the savory scone, however.Cheese croque was delicious. That piece of toast was simply indescribable. Cheese was amazing, but it hid the flavour of the bread. Now I know that I love picked carrot. (comes with the croque!)

Comment: This is the best place in San Francisco for French Pastries, however for me - this is THE place where I will drive all the way to the city (crazy I know) just to buy their fresh MORNING BUN! It is absolutely one of the best Ive had. Its crusty on the outside and cinnamon soft in the center. Order them heated up as it taste hmmm....hmmm good especially with a hot fresh cappuccino -- or a nice late. This place is always packed and always lines out the door. The weekends is the toughest. There isnt much room to eat inside nor do they have space outside. Most of the time, I recommend buying your pastries and take them with you for a nice stroll towards Dolores park and find a nice sitting area to sit and enjoy. I guarantee you its so worth it.PS: you can watch the pastry chefs making bread behind the scenes located behind the counter.Until then, ~ Cheers! :p

Comment: My experience here was memorable. Stood in line for 45 minutes, but its okay! This was the best bread I have ever tasted in my life. IT was so good. I saw everyone take a loaf, exit the shop and open the package and just start chewing off big size pieces of the loaf. No spoon, fork plates for this one! The bread is so good, it puts you in touch with our primal roots. The time before we had good cutlery to sit down at a table and have our meals. We got the coconut bavarian cake, the triple chocolate cake, and the bread. Everything was amazing.

Comment: This place definitely lived up to its hype. Long line around the corner. Packed house even though i went right after opening. But the payoff was worth it service and baked goods were above expectation. The care that goes into everything at Tartine is just amazing.
