Comment: Honestly, for the last 9 years this place has been my Go-To for when I’m not feeling well and need some nurturing. As a gluten-free person I come here for the GF Focaccia Tuna Melt (add tomato) and the GF Chocolate Cupcake with Peanut Butter Chocolate Dipped Frosting 🧁 😮‍💨. Today I added their Pozole and it was amazing! Also, they have the BEST gluten free breakfast sandwich 🥪 and it’s so affordable. Love love love them 💕

Comment: This is the best family-run bakery! I look forward to visiting every week to talk story and get a matcha latte and delicious chocolate walnut cookies and other baked goods. Their prices are affordable, their staff are friendly and remember SO many names of their customers, and their food and coffee and delicious. It’s also a large open space so it’s a great place to sit with a book or do some work and never feels cramped or crowded. Please consider supporting this local family business - they are an Oakland gem.

Comment: The best. A chill, down to earth neighborhood coffee shop with great baked goods and super friendly staff. Seems to be a good spot to work too, though there aren’t a ton of outlets. I haven’t eaten lunch here, but people seem to like their sandwiches - good sounding vegetarian options as well.

Comment: Loved this place!! delicious bagel sandwiches and coffee at a great price. my friend and i got the egg/cheese and the slow roasted pork bagel sandwiches and the service was fast, food was hot and tasty with good portion size.the other baked goods (croissants, cookies) look fresh and tasty, ciabatta and croissant sandwiches also look great! im excited to try the chipotle chicken and tofu portabella sandwiches next. there seem to be plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans in addition to the classic sandwich/bagel options (ex: tofu cream cheese).the space is large and open with plenty of seating and a nice row of window seats too. clean and pleasant. seems like a great place to either meet up with a friend or read, study, work, etc :) there is an outlet or two but i haven’t tried them out, unsure if they have free wifi.more than anything there’s a cozy homey family vibe that i love, i’m looking forward to coming back frequently :)

Comment: This is my go-to for croissants in the neighborhood. When I left SF, I was worried I wouldnt be able to find a decent croissant within walking distance. But I was wrong. The croissant au beurre and pain au chocolat are good. While a touch greasy, the dough is decently laminated, with flaky, airy, and buttery layers, but thankfully not bready. They are moist and pack a lot of flavor. They only make a few pain au chocolat a day, so go early if you want one.

Comment: This place is aggressively mediocre with regards to food/drinks and the atmosphere/cafe itself (the espresso-based drinks in particular are pretty bad, and with Red Bay and Starbucks both less than a block away youve got options for both coffee snobs and basic bros just a few steps outside).Service is really hit or miss depending on whos working and whos there - I live right across the street and after walking in and straight up to the pickup section of the counter just for the owner to sit there talking to someone and ignore me for the third time in a row I decided to just start going elsewhere.There are plenty of options in this part of town - I would highly recommend Koffee Cup just on the other side of the block which has great Korean, American, and fusion foods; or Firebrand which is right next door and offers a drastically higher quality of baked goods for about the same price.

They were patient through all of my needs - hehe. I ended up picking up crossaint, jalopeno cheddar bagel, ginger and something scone, carrot cake cupcake, salted caramel chocolate cake (mini 4), and crumble bar. The only thing I ended up trying for now is the peanut butter cookie with raspberry filling and MY GOODNESS, I sure have been missing out on the right cookies! Crunchy on the exterior, soft in the middle, and the raspberry was a nice touch - something a little different from other places. Cant wait to be back to try other cookies and more!

Comment: Had to cancel my order after I watched one of the cooks wipe the sweat off of his forehead, adjust his mask several times and proceed to handle the food with his bare hands. He never washed his hands, not even after preparing multiple orders. Beyond concerns of sanitation and cross-contamination; they hardly had any fresh pastries. You could tell that theyre refrigerated display was broken. I dont understand how theyre in operation. I try to support small businesses; especially those ran by POCs, but theyre going to make someone sick.

I normally just ask for a toasted bread item and I always get a funny look like really? You just want it toasted? BUT Sweet Bar Bakery has Tofutti Cream Cheese! AND they have different flavors that they make in the bakery by adding fresh ingredients like sun-dried tomatoes or jalapenos! The service was great, too!

We always had tea at Sweet Bar on Mondays and the Workers there were kind to us. The boss/owner definately discriminated against a person with disabilities. It is illegal and was embarrassing. There wasnt a very strong espresso taste in it. Would probably have to order it with an extra shot next time. The cafe is super cutesy for sure. In terms of my experience, it was no bueno. The person who ordered before me, took my iced beverage when he ordered a hot ginger spice latte or something. After I saw another person receive their beverage before me, I slowly approached the counter hoping that I would be acknowledged. I literally had to flag the guy down who took my order and inform him that I was still waiting on my drink. Eventually they figured out that the person before me took my beverage. You could see the irritation in the person working that there was a mix-up. He offered me a cookie which I was not interested in and he seem to get upset simply because I did not want to take the cookie. I honestly just wanted to get my drink. Which I ended up throwing away later on.

Usually, I prefer a more self-serve style, but even for me this lack of interaction was disappointing.While cashing me out the employee at the register brusquely turned to another and stated that she needed her shift to end, now. Either way, the conversation was not one I would have wanted to overhear.So I grab my coffee mug and fill it up. $3 for unlimited refill coffee is a great deal, and the coffee was pretty good. Nothing amazing, but tasty. I got a ginger cookie which was delicious - nice and crispy on the edges, chewy on the inside, and loaded with ginger.My time sitting was brief. The internet, well somehow it didnt exist for me or the next two people who sat down and tried to connect. The tables were also pretty sticky. Comment: My friend was retiring and I needed to get a cake. I came by this place to give it taste before ordering. So first time around I got a mini flour-less chocolate cake. It was pretty darn good. So after sharing that cake and getting the ok from some co-workers, I decided to go with the Chocolate Fortress. Even the name itself was something to be reckoned with. Chocolate cake, with chocolate mousse and raspberry filling topped with fresh raspberry and chocolate shards. Yes, I died and went to heaven. This cake is extremely rich and very heavy. I couldnt figure what message I wanted when I went in to order. They allowed me to call the day before pick up.This was so painless to order a cake. Now this will be my go to place in Oakland for special occasion cakes.

Comment: Such a cute little bakery. Great gluten-free options and good coffee too. Im vegetarian and allergic to onions so their breakfast options are limited. I usually ask them to make their ham and cheese crossiant sandwich without the ham. In the morning, its nice and quiet, but in the afternoon, it can get quite crowded and loud. So, if youre looking for a place to study, go there in the morning.

Comment: Bright and airy warehouse space in Oakland, housing a bakery/cafe which offers a variety of cookies, tarts, cupcakes, and other desserts in addition to lunch fare-- including salads, soup and sandwiches, plus coffee and tea. I was impressed by the detailed labels on each of the bakery offerings, which lists ingredients and empowers those with nut, dairy, gluten, and other such dietary concerns to make informed choices. A perfect spot to meet up with friends spanning the spectrum of consciousness in eating, minus the fuss.

Comment: Location is everything. Accross the street from the Oakland Y you feel ok eating the sweets after the work out. Cupcakes are really good.

Comment: Sweet Bar is such a great new fixture in the Uptown restaurant scene! Bright, airy space with super-nice staff, lots of extremely delicious sweets and sandwiches and salads as well as beer and wine on tap. Gluten-free and alternative-sweetener treats are available, try the lemon agave tart!
