Comment: I love Peets coffee from the first time I tried it, and its been my go-to coffee of choice. Ive tried many, many types and brands of coffee and I keep coming back to Peets. There is just something wholesome about the flavor, taste, and strength of their coffee compared to others. Whenever I get a chance to, I go to the Vine St. Peets location to get my coffee fix since I work close by. This location is a bit hidden in a quiet area above Shattuck and is so nice to walk by the small shops and restaurants here. Youll never know what youll find. I dont think Ive ever been disappointed by getting coffee from Peets here. The corner shop is so quaint and unassuming that youll miss it if you arent aware its there. Once inside the shop is just like any other Peets shop. Sitting space is okay, lots of space but not too many tables and chairs. Its okay though, I usually just take my coffee and have a nice walk if I must. There are just lots of things to see around here.

Comment: This is the original store which houses a 40 long Peets/Coffee Museum!!! In the final outcome, since I believe that Peets (the original of this genre) and SB both train their employees on great customer service, the main difference is that Peets does not scoop out the foamy head like SB does, and probably uses a slightly better array of ingredients.Baked goods at Peets, however, are vastly superior... Then walk over and get a falafel sandwich (with extra napkins) at Mediterranean Grill, or Sauls, both with their own succulent takes on this savory classic...and a short walk away...

Comment: AFTER 50 YEARS OF BEING A LOYAL CUSTOMER THE REVIEWER CAN NO LONGER RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS FOR COFFEE OR TEA.I love the baristas there, but went in to get a strong chai masala tea like I have been doing for nearly 50 years, only to discover that now they charge per the tea bag, and to get an extra strong chai the way Ive been ordering it most of my life, was not going to cost me nearly $8. The conglomerate who bought this has officially destroyed Peets legendary customer focus.They wont see me here again, but that has nothing to do with the baristas who I love.Thumbs up for the manager, kids, and local workers who are the baristas here.Thumbs down for the corporate structure and how theyre treating these stores.JAB, THE GERMAN FAMILY CONGLOMERATE WHO BOUGHT THIS OUT HAS DESTROYED OUR HOMETOWN COFFEE SPOT

Comment: As someone who really appreciates coffee and the hard work it takes to make a coffee from bean to cup, I was pretty excited to visit the first Peet’s. Unfortunately I can’t say I was impressed, mainly the bad attitude one of the staff seemed to have when I ordered, she seemed bothered. Maybe it was because it was almost closing time and they wanted to be done. 🤷🏻‍♂️Regardless of the reason,I expect better service from such a reputable coffee chain. The coffee was ok. Better luck next time Peet’s.

Comment: Been here for 6 years. During the first two, this Peets was really great. Then... It has been so unpredictable, from great coffee to some that are literally undrinkable. It all depends on the barista you get. The new baristas are just not good at making a good cup of coffee. Also, today the customer in front of me spoke for 10 about work, and their day with the cashier, completely disregarded rest of customers.

Comment: Came in late afternoon. Coffee was decent as far as coffe goes no complaints there. Tried to sit down and relax after a 9 hour early morning shift. My nose was assaulted by urine, garbage, and other indescribable smells. I look to my left and right - homeless people everywhere without coffee.Place is already overwhelmed by students with laptops at tables taking up seating areas for 4 by themselves. Now unhygienic unpaying customers are making it just an awful place to rest and enjoy a coffee.You gotta keep them outside man. Im sorry, but that kind of thing (while humanitarian) makes the average person want to *stay away*.

Comment: Absolute awful experience paid for my coffee gentlemen behind me was not social distancing, staff does not care then they gave guy that was not social distancing coffee to him before me and then argued with me and I just left and they did not even offer me a refund before I left I went back in and told them what the situation was seconds later and they still did not offer me a refund this Petes coffee is the worst The staff is rude its happened several times and I will never go back again,P coffee isnt that great in the first place but to have to put up with this kind of customer service during pandemic times is ridiculous!

Different vibe now within and without - I can only imagine the craziness that would ensue if they ever tried filling the neighborhood with the wonderful aroma of roasting beans again as they did back in the day, and who serves brew in ceramic cups anymore? However, staff remains friendly, service oriented, and knowledgeable. Coffee remains excellent, the best youll find, and in recent eons the company has become quite serious about encouraging their growers and supporting marketplace reforms to further assist them. Brewed coffee reflects the business global vision so maybe not the exact same thing day after day but you can learn a lot from drinking their varying selections and asking questions of the baristas. The baked munchies are always on with the quality and tastiness in my experience.

The original Vine St store is pretty consistent in quality with some outdoor sidewalk seating...local hangout for decades for some who are now gray haired...a nice location, but parking can be challenging. Walk there if you can.Several good quality boutique stores nearby and Gourmet Ghettos sought after eateries .The Shattuck downtown store is a different environment...and they always have an insufficient amount of chairs. There you have to have a code for the bathrooms.More street people around, virtually no parking but a hop, skip and a jump from downtown BART stn. With Berkeleys downtown at your doorstep, including 2 3 movie theaters!The Solano Ave Peets continues to be, a good place to stop over for a relaxing cup. Recently remodeled theres ample seating inside and on the extra wide sidewalk there. Lots of shops and eateries nearby.Finally, the Telegraph Ave site....pkg again a chore so best for walkers. Cal student area including student oriented casual eateries and shopping. Very little left of Telegraph of the 60s...this Peets is fine..again, coded bathrooms as this area is part of the street culture hub..

The location has a kind of awkward interior design, which leads to relatively limited seating. I can remember talking about coffees and roasting with Mr. Peet. Didnt realize for a long time after that, having gone back home, that Peets had become such a big deal. I now come back here when I travel through the bay area as sort of a pilgrimage and find the present and my memories blend together very nicely.

Comment: Whoa...all these years of coming here and no review...until now. I used to drive down here in the 80s to stock up on coffee and then trek back to Sacramento. It was like a ritual. Now you can find Peets everywhere, thankfully.The corner location is like a tourist attraction; while sitting here two young women posed in front of the coffee grinder out in the back. The first Peets Coffee. The back area, that was once the roasting room, is now like a mini-museum of sorts with lots of photos, a coffee grinder and plenty of space. They could probably add some tables and chairs back here too.I discovered a secret button on the wall, push it and a video comes on the little flat screen monitor that illustrates the history of Peets Coffee. Directly across from where the bar stool seating area is!

Comment: One of the original Peets coffees, their espresso is pretty good. There isnt a whole lot of seating is this particular location, but the service is friendly and its usually pretty crowded no matter what time it is. Id recommend walking up the street a ways to Philz Coffee.
