Comment: Ordered Cobb sandwich. It was good. The side potatoe chips were stale. Purchase a coconut cake to take home. Seems like the oil in the cake ( canola?) was awful. The butter cream was taste less, even with the coconut. I am a coconut lover. Not recommending the cake.

Comment: After a hectic week, I wanted to help my wife relax, so we spent $23.77 on a lavender mocha drink and avocado toast. Unfortunately, the drink was not decorated as expected, and the egg was undercooked. When we asked the manager, Dallas, to decorate the drink, they informed us that they dont charge for that service, which we found to be a peculiar excuse. Attached is a picture of the design we received for $6 drink.

Comment: My husband and I came with our daughter to enjoy a late breakfast. Todays experience was was one horrifying let down after another. We should have known when ALL the tables around us had to wait an unreasonable amount of time to get their food only to have it returned back to the kitchen for being cold, undercooked or just wrong, and this continues until it was our unfortunate turn. We ordered two lattes, scone, muffin and a kids meal with the fresh squeezed juice. Nothing was edible. The scone was undercooked and was refunded because it was raw. The lattes came cold after waiting for nearly 10 minutes and had to be remade. The kids meal came with a stale cold egg that was obviously not freshly made and was refrigerated overnight. When the new lattes came, we fished outa long gross hair. The juice was watered down and flavorless. The fries from the kids meal was just house potatoes that didn’t have any flavor, not even salt. My stomach is churning and I’m feeling sick. We left the remaining food and had to leave.

Comment: So disappointed. I ordered the Loaded Italian panini sandwich, and I received a “Lacking Italian”. There was barely any meat or other ingredients. Including the 2 slices of bread, this dish is a little more than an inch in height. And, the worst part of it is the cost: $15. I should’ve gone to Board and Brew!

Comment: I literally went in just for dessert yesterday..I ordered the coconut rum cake & chocolate mousse cake..costing me $13.00 for both...the coconut rum cake was average...the chocolate mousse cake was dry and disgusting! Everything about is was just wrong! Not sure if it had been sitting there for awhile..it was Not fresh.. I hope not since the customers before me were visiting from SC...I hope hers tasted better than mine since here I was in the line bragging about the desserts from my previous visit! SMH!

Comment: 2024: Updated review- unfortunately I had to lower my rating to three stars. Ive enjoyed visiting Nutmeg in Sabre Springs and a few visits to their Scripps Ranch location, but Ive noticed progressively the deliciousness of the food has decreased. Im so sorry to say all this, but its true! Maybe the ownership has changed a couple times over the years?? I went earlier today and Im sad to say it was very under par. Maybe the ingredients are not as fresh, theyre cutting back on the meat or seasonings but I really didnt enjoy what I ordered today. It just wasnt good to me.Tried: amazing burrito, nutmeg scramble, carnitas breakfast sandwich, latte, mimosa.Also, they no longer have their homemade biscuits and jam. That was THE BEST thing Ive eaten there.Sorry to say I wont be back again. Its taken me a few years of disappointment to finally give up.Best of luck, I hope Nutmeg gets its ingredients/ freshness/ chefs in order to rise to their previous glory.

The food lacked flavor, although they offered Cholula, ketchup, butter, salt/pep, and jam as condiments. Comment: It’s refreshing you order at the counter, sit down, and they bring your stuff to do (no extra lines waiting at a pick up area). Lots of seating options. No vegan pastries - would like to see those added to the menu. There is one vegan item on the menu that looks good but I didn’t try it. Got the americano - it was ok (not the best not the worst). Staff is friendly. Good environment. Would definitely come back!

Delicious- and healthy- food, great menu, friendly people, tasty coffee and sweet treats (including gluten free- Ive heard the GF selection is delicious.) My faves: All Kale Caesar (its really good- do not be thrown off by all that kale ;) the Capri panini, the Avocado toast (so good!) the lattes, and their cinnamon rolls (outrageously tasty)... but everyone who Ive eaten there with raves about the whole menu. Showed up for the first time with 3 other people and was told we can look at the restaurant style menus to see what we wanted. We walked over to an empty table since you have to order at the counter and wanted to see what to get. With many options on the menu it would have been great to take some time to see what would be best to get. Immediately after we sat down though we were promptly told by a male employee that we can’t reserve tables, that it’s a house rule and we need to order first. We walked to the counter, waited behind one person, placed our order and then walked back the same spot we were at before. I’m confused on what this place wants to be…. Do they want to be a quick place to eat or a sit down location. I could see if it’s very busy but there were a bit of seats available inside as well as outside. It just seems that common sense was not used in this interaction.Regarding the food, I decided to get the Avocado toast and it was fine. Was a little pricy for one slice(decent size) toast with tomatoes on top of the avocado.Overall I don’t plan on coming back because I’m not sure what this place is trying to be and there are other breakfast/brunch options that are either cheaper, or similar price with a more streamlined experience.

Upon sitting they promptly brought out my side of bacon followed by a side order of house fries. The quickness would have been fine except they didn’t bring the main orders of food with it so the sides sat to get cold.I ordered a potato hash and the potatoes were hard and underdone. Overall the whole plate was under seasoned. I also ordered the bananas foster stuffed French toast which was fine. But that’s really all.I also asked for ketchup and I was initially ignored and when they finally brought it out the meal was practically over and now thinking back on it I’m pretty sure what they brought out wasn’t ketchup or it was rotten ketchup.Two stars because I still ate the food I paid for. Mainly because it was so ridiculously expensive, especially for a quick food service experience.

Drawing us in closer to putting our orders in, we all were so impressed with the bakery case. After we ordered found a table again impressed even with the crowd our orders came up so quickly! The biggest problem is you get a full cup of coffee and full portion of food when you order to go, yet I ate in the coffee shop Saturday morning at 8:45 and got completely chinced on my scramble and coffee. Paid the exact same price, which is expensive to begin with. So very disappointed! Not oversize, big as your head, pancakes with blueberries added as an afterthought. Rather a stack of three normal sized pancakes with a delicious blend of whole grain flavor and a generous amount of blueberries folded in. Topped with a sweet crunchy topping, whipped cream, served with real maple syrup. Delicious.

My plate, with a regular coffee was $23.50(not including tax and tip). French toast was good, eggs not worth the added cost(not fluffy and a bit browned).I know, inflation its affecting everything, but probably wont return. At that price I expect leftovers. The portions were a decent amount, but I was able to finish there.Since its counter service ordering theres no follow up table service and I assume no coffee refills. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Lastly, we ordered a brownie to go, which was delicious. Sorry, forgot to take photos.

Not being familiar with the area, I checked yelp (of course!), and was drawn to Nutmeg Cafe by all the great reviews and the cute name!The food and bakery options all looked amazing, organic, sustainable, with some great gluten free options. We just beat the lunch crowd...you order at the counter, then find a table. We had the Cobb wrap and the Capri sandwich, and shared a cup of the soup of the day - coconut curry.Our food was brought out very fast! The Cobb wrap was superb - LOTS of thinly sliced turkey, super crisp bacon (my real test of any Cobb), egg, blue cheese, tomato, aoli, and just the right small amount of romaine - all wrapped in a lightly warmed/grilled spinach wrap. The soup was so amazingly flavorful - I cant wait to attempt a copycat recipe at home. While Carl enjoyed his Capri sandwich, it didnt look nearly as packed with ingredients as mine. The homemade chips were thick, crunchy and addictive.We sat outside and although it was a hot day, the overhead and side shading made it quite comfortable. Service was great, both at ordering and delivering of food.I would definitely return to Nutmeg...and next time, Id save room for dessert and a special drink!

However, the line was deceiving because it moved very quickly! Not only was there seating indoors, but a big outdoor area that looked like it had been added during the pandemic.Plenty of seating, fast service and great food! My friend had the chicken pesto panini and I had the scramble. We had already had coffee so we didnt order anything but there was a nice selection. Comment: I love coming here! This is my go to spot to catch up with people. They have a super cute little space and the food is fresh and phenomenal! All of the baked goods are made in house. In general their prices might be the slightest bit more than other places but the quality and huge portions are worth it!

Comment: This is my fav local spot in the Poway/Carmel Mountain/Sabre Springs for a delicious breakfast or lunch. If an ingredient can be farm to table, it literally is. The hardest choice to make is for breakfast is whether to go sweet or savory. The service is fast yet friendly. The vibe is bright, open, and refreshing with indoor and outdoor seating. Will you pay more than Denny’s? Absolutely, cause the two don’t compare! Totally worth it.

Comment: The vegan scramble tasted good but it was mostly a bowl full of fried potatoes. There was a table spoon of diced tofu, a tablespoon of soy chorizo, and about 2-3 leaves of diced kale. If youre looking for a nutritious vegan meal this isnt it. They really skimp out on main ingredient listed in the description of the scramble.The vegan gluten free scone was delicious, highly recommend it.

Comment: Hip and groovy spot, extremely popular with the younger crowd. Crazy busy, with a very long line that they seem to manage well enough. But when you first walk in -if you can even get inside - it may be daunting. Food is excellent and so is the variety. A ton of original dishes and something for everyone no matter what your diet inclinations. Seating could be better, be more comfortable. Somewhat pricey but not terrible by San Diego standards.

Comment: Nutmeg is the best! We’ve eaten in the cafe and loved all the bakery treats. They also catered our wedding and the food was incredible. They put together an amazing menu that suited a wide range of dietary preferences (vegan, vegetarian, gluten free). We had a range of appetizers, pulled pork sliders, prime rib, mashed potatoes, and a salad station. And they came up with an unbelievably good vegan, gluten free wedding cake too: coconut rum cake that was to die for! They timed everything perfectly, we had plenty of food, the service was top notch, and they’re just delightful to work with!

Comment: I went for brunch with a friend over a Saturday morning and found the place packed! But to my surprise the line moved pretty quickly and within 30 minutes we were seated and being served our food. This place requires you to order at the register and take your number to your table of choice, which attributes to the long line seen going out the door but the staff take orders really quickly. I ordered their brioche french toast and it was probably the best french toast I have ever had. I was afraid that it was going to be too sweet but the cream on the inside of the french toast was just the perfect balance! Also, they have some pretty good egg scrambles and their soyrizo is just excellent! Overall, love the vibe of the place. It is pretty loud but welcoming.

Comment: Food here is decent, but I don’t know what the hype is for this place, maybe because there’s not much eating choices around. It’s definitely trying to attract the trendy crowd and probably is doing a good job. In my opinion, however, it definitely was not worth my time and money.I tried both the cheese stuffed strawberry French toast and another plate (forgot what’s it was called something with potato, pork belly, and kale). First of all, they forgot the whipped cream in my French toast, take about presentation! The toast itself was pretty plain tasting, including the stuffed cheese which did not go well with the plain bread. The pie crumbles was annoying to eat as I can barely pick the pieces up with my pork...there wasn’t enough strawberry sauce provided to be enjoyed with the toast. Overall this dish was simply just...plain...As for the pork belly plate, it was too salty and there was so much more potato than kale. I did not plant to eat healthy here, but with the ingredients in this dish I’m not sure whether the store is trying to be healthy or just contradicting themselves...healthy with huge sides of salt, starch, and fat....On the plus side, if it’s about edible food, atmosphere, fast service, and you don’t care about the cost, i’ll give this place a 3 stars max.

Brunch is served all day on the weekend.The sandwiches were tasty and a good size. I had the Buzzy Bee. My husband had the Porkie. His was warm, huge and filled with meat and fixings, and was declared the winner of the two sandwiches. Both came with homemade chips -- I liked them, my husband said they could use some spice. They offer a wide variety of baked goods and pastries. You can get Stone and Ballast Point beer here too.

What a wonderful little spot to find delicious, freshly prepared food!There are many options to appeal to whatever you are craving. I love that they even have vegan options! We ordered the chicken caesar sandwich, Shanghai salad, the kids almond butter and jelly sandwich with chips, and a vegan blueberry muffin. It was all delicious and satisfying!Another plus is that they use Caffe Calabria coffee. We will be coming back to Nutmeg for many years to come.

Comment: This was my first time to Nutmeg Cafe and unfortunately I encountered the same experience as Lydia Rose (who posted her review 3 months ago). Ive taken 1 star off because the food is mediocre (at least for their limited Saturday selection); and Ive taken 2 stars off because of the unwelcoming attitude of the staff, who spoke curtly, and made no eye contact when delivering food. With so many cafe choices, this behavior is pretty unacceptable.

Comment: A bustling cafe on the weekend, for brunch the menu is pretty small. There are times with waits and some with none, it all depends. The staff is nice for the most part, and your food is delivered fairly quickly.We tried a few items, the cinnamon roll, mushroom & cheese brioche, snickerdoodle cookie, nutmeg scramble, and 2 egg breakfast. Comment: One of the best brunch places Ive ever been to. It was refreshing to see servings that werent too large. I highly recommend the Chocolate Chip Pancakes and the Iced Mocha. They also seem to have $18 bottomless mimosas. It gets crowded on the weekends, so I suggest getting there early or brave the hangover in line.

My food was piping hot, which is a rare find in itself. The ingredients are fresh! I ordered the house coffee and added nutmeg and cinnamon on top. I didnt try their cinnamon rolls but as youll see from my photos, they appear to be a mouth-watering, savoring choice! I will definitely be back to try their bakery selection! Comment: I eat at Nutmeg probably 3x per week (at least!). They have amazing locally sourced organic options for breakfast and lunch. Nutmeg offers several vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options for anyone with those dietary needs. Its a little on the spendy side, but youre definitely getting a higher quality meal here with high quality ingredients. I highly recommend the vegan scramble (if you arent vegan, you can add eggs and cheese!), The busy bee sandwich or the Cheryl sandwich if youre looking for a sweet/salty. Its so good. The bacon cheese monkey bread is made fresh daily (along with a wide assortment of other amazing options) and it is amazing! I cannot rave enough about this place. I have never had anything here I was even slightly disappointed with, its all amazing! Give them a try! Grab a sandwich, a sculpin and a macaroon and see for yourself!

Comment: A hip and trendy restaurant that serves a healthy brunch. The decor is unique and urban and the technology is up to date with five star loyalty membership. The food is very flavorful and fresh but it is quite pricey and the portions are much much too small. My main issue is that the staff are quite uptight and have a very snooty attitude when I came here. Other than that, this place has a very bright and welcoming atmosphere and definitely worth a try.

Comment: Tucked away in an unpopular shopping center, this cafe fills the void in an area that lacks an eatery. There is a very small patio that allows dogs. I was lucky enough to find a seat there immediately with my dog. The decor is nice, nothing special, but better style than most places.I dont know why, but I decided to get the steak quesadilla for brunch. It was OK. Loaded with cheese and not so much steak. It was missing avocados which is expected. My girlfriend got the mushroom omelet which was pretty good.Ill have to give it another try. I definitely want to try the french toast.It is fairly expensive, but not ridiculously over priced if you consider everything is fresh and organic.

Comment: Random finds are precious, and the Nutmeg Cafe was one of them. We were looking for a light breakfast - hot cocoa and pastries, and we found it here. If you love Nutella, you will fall in love with this place, as they incorporate the ingredient in a few baked goods. My croissant was flaky perfect, and the eggs fresh and tasty. Nice casual urban chic vibe, but in a very suburban mini mall location. A glass window gives you a look into their kitchen, and the bathrooms have very nice decor - an important item in my book. My only complaint is that its not closer to my home!
