Comment: It truly is unbelievable what they can create in this incredibly small bakery. We picked up a dozen different items all delicious. You cannot go wrong stopping here for a sweet treat. Only advice is to get here earlier in the day than we did as they sell out of so much. The breads are beautiful (works of art) and incredibly flavorful, most make using Levain dough. Wowee on the Meyer Lemon Shortbread - wished I had ordered 2 of those. Scones were amazing and so was the chocolate croissant. We walked around the corner and sat on a bench and enjoyed.

Comment: This place is special. The farmers bread is heavenly. I routinely take as many loaves on the plane ride home to Oregon as humanly possible. If you wish to partake in a Morning Bun - get there early. I bought the last one at 9:00 a.m. on a weekday. Go earlier if it’s the weekend. I would have photoed the ham and cheese croissant, but alas, I devoured it as soon as I removed it out of the paper bag. Hints of rosemary, savory ham and cheese - a simple pleasure I wish I could enjoy more often. This bakery is not to missed. GO EARLY!

Comment: Had this place on our list of must try bakeries. Got some Meyer lemon shortbread, a scone, a cheese pop over, a baguette and a half loaf of wheat bread. Are it all today but the half load. Everything was very good. Wish we bought a couple skices of cake too. Waited in line about 15 minutes. Worth the wait.

Comment: The baguette and croissant are truly wonderful. Im also a big fan of the big breads and loafs, even though their Miche is too often times overcooked. Thats too bad. The service is really nice, but incredibly slow, even when the bakery is packed with clients. They would never survive an impatient French crowd! And I really, REALLY wish they had a slicer. Please, can you guys get a slicer? Id really be willing to pay extra $ for a sliced bread and not having to do it myself.

Comment: So...they open at 8am, I got there around 7:20am to no line so I grabbed a coffee and waited in Peets next door, only to come out to a line around the corner! Lesson learned, that a line DOES form! Good thing is the line moved fairly quickly and folks were polite. It was my first time there so I grabbed a couple of almost everything, and everything I personally tried were great! From traditional Croissants to morning bun to egg&ham Croissant (I could only eat so much this morning!), they were all great.Staff was friendly, even as I added items to my order, and kept the long line moving quickly so even with my rookie mistake, I was out of there by about 8:15am. It does add up quickly though because a few things here and a few things there equalled over $120!

Comment: Being a fan of great bakeries, my daughter encouraged us to visit the Fournee Bakery on Domingo Street located across the street from The Claremont Hotel & Spa. While there was no name on the front of the bakery, we assumed we were in the right place because of the ling line of customers waiting to place their orders inside . If you’re smart, you’ll order online and then you can walk right in and avoid what could easily be a half hour wait! There’s a very good reason why people were waiting to get their sandwiches, breads and desserts, everything we ate was delicious!

Comment: We love croissants and always have high expectations on the quality of the taste: it has to be buttery and crusty on the outside. The best puff pastry is at La fournée, not the the Claremont hotel. Their croissants, almond croissants are wonderful. If you are hungry for savories Ham and Manchego Croissant or Egg and Ham Croissant are really tasty. When I need a treat I go there. We love to taste viennoiseries in different bakeries in Berkeley and Albany and La fournée is just the Best. No question! You will not be disappointed.

Comment: Came here in the late afternoon. I thought I got lucky since there was no line. The selection is smaller around this time, but thought a croissant would be a safe bet.It was OK, a little well done (see picture), only a faint taste of butter and dry. The reason my review is not lower is because I have been here before and had better experiences. But really, if a single croissant is going to cost $3.50, it should be spectacular.

Comment: The pastries were phenomenal, the croissants were super flaky and buttery. The canelè had a crunchy shell with a soft and tender inside, a lot of vanilla flavor. Highly recommend these two items. The morning bun was more on the sugary side and could benefit from a bit more cinnamon to balance things out.Something worth pointing out is that the items were bagged in an extremely casual manner — some would even say sloppy. All items were overlapping with each other. I would have expected them to be neatly placed in the bag. But the overall quality of the food makes us see past that.

Comment: The service at this bakery was generally unfriendly and poorly organized, with one exception being the very nice and polite Mexican staff member. It was disappointing to see that despite their posted operating hours stating they were open until 4 PM, they had run out of almost everything by 11:30 AM. This is especially frustrating considering customers often have to wait for 25 minutes before being served.Furthermore, I find it unreasonable for the bakery to expect tips for simply serving bread and croissants, especially considering their already high prices. The cost of these items alone is already quite expensive. While the product itself was good, the overall experience was marred by the subpar service. I hope La Fournée can work on improving their customer service and ensuring better organization in the future.

Comment: A small, simple bakery with a rustic vibe, delicious pastries and plenty of tasty takeaway options. We missed the quiches and pizzas for the day, so come early. The line is an indication in itself that the baked goods are delicious, even for later in the evening, the croissants, pain au chocolat, and veggie sandwich were tasty. These fall somewhere between the spectrum of Starter and Tartine. Really well done and what a great vibe to sit outside and listen to buskers.

Comment: Every few Fridays I’ll stop by to pick up some treats for the weekend. Most of what I get usually doesn’t last the entire weekend 😅 note: arrive early! I stopped by around 9am and waited approx 15 minutes to order, when I left by 9:30 the line jumped 3x and curved around the block.Their morning buns are the best I’ve had - not incredibly sweet, and just the right amount of crispness exterior with light, chewy-ness on the inside. Other favorites include their fruit scones and gougeres!

Comment: Sub par quality for bakeries at this price point. Plain croissant is the best thing on the menu, this is done well. Breads are claggy and raw on the inside, while burnt on the outside. Fillings lack flavors aside from salt, and have no nuance, and the bakers dont compensate for the change in bread composition! So the filled croissants have zero lamination and are wet inside. Scones on the other hand are overbaked and dry to point where trying to apply butter breaks then apart. Breakfast buns are drenched in uncaramelized sugar syrup, again no subtlety in flavor. Everything tastes like its calibrated for the palette of a child, fat, salt and sugar. I would not but from here again.

Comment: Wow! Their almond crossiant and chocolate almond croissant are the best Ive ever had. Im sad that it took me this long to discover them. My friend loves their olive bread loaf. Great place to go before your Claremont hills hike. I say before because they sell out of everything by early afternoon so beware! There is also a line, but it dies down fast. Comment: One of a couple excellent French bakeries in the east bay. However, the quality has gone downhill lately. The twice baked pastries (I’m looking at you, almond croissant) have been almost burnt at times. The line is unnecessarily long because—wait for it—there’s no menu outside so all decisions have to be made inside, on the spot. And finally, they botched our order last time. Get it back together, Fournée!Edit: seems better now. They tend on the crispy side, which is a dangerous line to tow, but it’s working now.

Comment: There’s a lot of free parking in the area so I didn’t have to walk too far, but the line was already around the corner around 11:15am on a Sunday. I only waited about 15-20min, so it wasn’t bad at all.I also got suuuuuper lucky and got the last ham and cheese croissant! I definitely recommend first times to try it, but not the best one I’ve ever had. I also got the ham and egg croissant but it wasn’t that flakey and the filling was ok. I don’t normally get that many croissants but any time I see anything twice baked I have to get it so I tried the twice baked almond chocolate too. It wasn’t as crispy as I would’ve expected but it wasn’t bad. I also don’t normally get morning buns but this one had a lot of layers and seemed flakey like a croissant instead of the ones that are more like a bun/bread. It wasn’t that flakey actually but also not bad.The seasonal nectarine tart was too sweet tor me and was similar to a crumble tart. Canele was good but not the best I’ve ever had.Surprisingly, the star of the show was the cheese roll! I got it because it looked really cheesy and it was BUT the bread was super chewy kind of like sourdough and I loved it! Very different from the one I had at ACME and I would definitely go back just for this.I wanted to try the flan and toffee cake but they don’t do slices so I’m not sure if I’ll ever get a chance to try this :( I also want to try the pizza but I’ll have to come on a Saturday for that next time.Everything costed over $3 but no more than $6 with the croissants around $4.25-$5.50. Pretty typical prices for a French Bakery :)

Comment: We have just moved to Berkeley and are so fortunate to live near La Fournee bakery. Their Miche bread reminds me of the thick crusted, delicious, wood-fired bread we so enjoyed in Germany. Fournee is extremely popular so there are often long lines around the block, but its well worth the wait. However that long wait isnt necessary. If you call in and place your order in advance, then you can go right to the front of the line to pick it up, with no wait at all!

Comment: Fournée does a lot of things right when it comes to baguette, croissant, and pastries. For America, it met the expectations of a Frenchy. Their breads though are somewhat ‘flat’ (literally) and some are flat out burnt (which did not meet the expectations of my Frenchy). Parking near Fournée is tiresome but its a quaint area that many people flock to on the weekends for coffee (Peets is next door) and a breakfast delight from the bakery. Yet you cannot go wrong with their baguette, croissant, scones, etc. Since COVID there is a social pressure nudge to tip which doesn’t make sense considering there was no tip nudge prior to COVID upon purchase and aside from a few modifications nothing hasn’t really changed for Fournée (never offered seating, consistently have a long wait for customers as usual), I suspect they are capitalizing. Even so, feel free to decline the tip request as we do every time since their products are not cheap and you certainly are already paying premium $$$$.

I generally stick to the chocolate croissant and the ham and egg. My favorite desert of theirs is the craqulin ( I think that’s how to say it) it’s not the puff pastry filled with chantilly cream and toffee. They filled it with apple instead of toffee sometimes as they change it the menu seasonally. Comment: I have seen this location change over the 50 years I have been here. This spot was a candy store in 1968..it was Daily Bread forever...now Fournee. With lines out the door it is not unknown. And deserves it high reputation. Quality bakery.

Comment: My how this bakery has grown. Not five years ago it was half the size. This is what quality and hard work looks like. Fournee is off the beaten path and one worth hiking to if you find yourself in the Rockridge area. Those of you staying at the Claremont hotel would be wise to take a brief walk down the hill to treat yourself to some exercise, fresh air and delicious baked goods.

Comment: Good baguettes and croissants but their patisserie is utterly disappointing. They made one good item ( pistachio napoleons) which they no longer make.

Comment: Delicious French Bakery. Amazing quality and taste. Very reasonably priced too. I recommend arriving in the morning since they tend to sell out of a lot of items, especially the baguettes, which are typically ready at 9 am but certainly gone by 9:30 am (they just cant make enough). I recommend any of the croissant variations. They have delicious tender and buttery flavor and texture. Morning buns are very good too. In some ways I would almost say its Berkeleys version of Tartine (which you have to try if youre in Mission District). They have a few cakes that are great to take home for the family.

Comment: Incredible baked goods here. My favorites are the walnut coriander scone and the seasonal tarte tatin, which is to die for. There was my life before I had Fournées tarte tatin and there is my life after. Now nothing will ever be the same.

Comment: Thank you, Fournee, for the most beautiful and most delicious wedding cake Ive experienced. The cake was a yellow cake with many layers of chocolate ganache and salted caramel filling. Simple design, complex flavors. So perfect!

Comment: Very nice croissants for the East Bay, comparable to Hearth in SF, although the latters chocolate ones have a better honeycomb structure and a little more chocolate than Fournee. Also other nice pastries and cool thin brownies.

Comment: Buttery croissants, tarts baked to perfection, a true French patisserie; a must have is their whole egg wrapped in ham, nested in a croissant. When looking for a must try Bakery in Berkeley, CA, you need not go further! Show up early, to enjoy the plentitude of baked goods; nobody leaves with just one item!

Comment: This place is AMAZING. I had a total of 5 different pastries (in the span of two days) and was blown away by each one! How many bakeries can do that?Quiche? Great.Croissant? Excellent.Almond croissant? Al-mazing.Lemon curd croissant? Uh, hello, lemon curd!Ham & egg croissant? Fantastic! And its made fresh daily! Fresh, delicious pastries win me every time. One sad thing is that they dont warm it up for you so you may end up with a cold pastry. An amazing-tasting cold pastry but a cold pastry. If you can wait until you get home to toast it yourself, do it! You wont regret it.Until my next pastry indulgence.

Comment: Wow! This is a small bakery (meaning the selection isnt huge), but the stuff they have is incredible. My favorite are the gruyere cheese rolls, though their pastry, eclairs, quiche, ... are all wonderful. (Im drooling just thinking about it!)

Comment: Wow, authentic French pastries -- finally! Its set a much higher bar than the bakery that previously occupied the space. The cashier was outgoing and helpful with providing descriptions of the less familiar pastries. The almond croissant was divine and I liked the savory currant bun.
