Comment: Had Afternoon Tea Reservations May 18, 2024. We were with Good Times Travel Tour. When we walked in all the tables were beautifully set. We were first served the House Tea called Coral Tree Tea. It is a black tea with chocolate and coconut. Loved it so much I purchased 2 bags!! Highly recommend this flavor!! The food was delicious! Took home leftovers. Service was fantastic! Everyone was so nice! The whole experience was absolutely wonderful! Highly recommend the Coral Tree Tea House!

Comment: Our reserved group had nine people. We were seated in the front room next to the little shop. Pam and Blanche were our guides and there was also a gentleman. The ladies were so sweet, took our photos, and told us some interesting history. First, we were given the house tea, Coral Tree Tea. Second, we picked two more as a table. Third, we were given a three tier plate offering savory and sweet treats. They gave us a bracelet and showed us a coin. There is one bathroom in the building. I hope to return. I think it would be so fun to work here!

Comment: The lovely ladies at the Coral Tree House are an absolute delight. This was my second time there and it wont be the last. A large selection of perfectly brewed tea accompanied by a heavenly assortment of sandwiches and desserts. From black to herbal to flavored theres something for everyone. If youre ever in San Diego do yourself a favor and make a reservation. A word to the wise: come hungry. The food might look cute and small but you will be more than full with plenty to take home with you.

Comment: Im trying to get in touch with someone to cancel a reservation for Friday 8/25/2023. I have to cancel since the other person in my party cant make it now, as she was affected by the tropical storm. I left a detailed voicemail on Monday. I tried again today and it says the voicemail is full. This is pretty unacceptable for a business, especially since they require a deposit and there is literally no way to reach them to cancel or reschedule a reservation. It seems that Im not the first person to encounter this issue, as several reviews mention the lack of communication. I would appreciate it greatly if someone would contact me. If not, I may have to contact my bank and the BBB.

Comment: We walked in to see if we could buy a hand fans that were for sale and make a reservation. My kid walked in before me and I saw her smile at the lady in the front. I thought I heard the lady scoff but waited until I walked in. The lady pretended I didn’t exist. We decided not to purchase fans and walk out. My kid told me the lady glared and scoffed at her. You need to hire friendlier staff or you’ll lose business.

Comment: I absolutely loved this tea house. One of the best ones Ive been to. The ladies who run it are simply delightful. I enjoyed the stories they shared. They allowed us to bring our dogs and sit on the front porch and it was a beautiful, peaceful view. The scones were my favorite. I never wouldve chosen a chocolate coconut tea off a menu, so its smart to make that the house tea. It was surprisingly delicious. I also ordered Lucys and my mom chose Creme Brulee, both were great.

Traditional tea treats were served in a most beautiful historic home and district. Comment: I spoke to someone to make reservation and left my credit card info as requested. They even charged a holding fee on my card. On the day of the reservation, we drove down and they didn’t have our info anywhere, so that was a complete waste of time. The open hours are very limited so it was hard to get in touch with them, all the appointments and info were kept as handwritten notes so it would be very easy to miss stuff.So I wasted time to drive down to not get service, and now need to spend even more time on calls to get back the amount they changed on my card. I want to give it another try because the place seems so lovely but I don’t have a lot of faith in their booking system. This was a terrible experience.

Comment: Very cute and traditional afternoon tea spot. The owners are two very sweet ladies. Tea selection is great, the house tea is amazing. We got the afternoon tea which included 2 additional pots of tea- we got earl grey creme and creme brulee. 2 mini scones with creme ( the scones were moist and delicious). 3 sandwich selections and 2 savory treats. The sweets on top were also yummy and fresh. Definitely recommend and will be back.

I’ve been to pretty impressive afternoon teas while living in Japan, so I was a little reluctant but I’m glad I was proved wrong. The ladies who manage this establishment take pride in serving you and make everything homemade in their vintage kitchen- from the fresh cream to the scones, to the warm spanakopita and tea sandwiches. Savory and sweet tea pastries, with your choice of two different teas, makes for a wonderful time with friends. It was fun to dress up and really absorb the experience. I highly recommend! A few things to note and be aware of: They change their menu monthly (I believe), they have ample parking, you must make a reservation and leave a deposit, the space inside of the tea house is extremely small and tight. You will be very close to the guests next to you. There was a large party when we visited and the room was filled with laughter and conversation throughout our dining experience. Dress up and plan for some extra time to walk the grounds- the homes are fascinating and charmingly picturesque.

Comment: 10/10 would recommend for a friend date!My best friend and I had the queen set. We were able to pick out two teas from the menu. I picked the vanilla black tea and she picked the shallimar ( I think thats how its spelt). We were served finger foods that were really delicious. All food is made in house according to the owner! The tea is kept warm over tea lights and the setting is perfect to spill the tea (chat).

Comment: Celebrated our 2 sisters bdays here; they loved it. We had a party of 6 squeezed inside a small room with 2 other parties. Our party was a little loud and raucous, but no one seemed to mind. Blanch and Pam, and Sir Paul were so nice catering to everyone. We would definitely come here again for high tea. Tip: the middle room is nicer, airy, and feels more open for a party of 6-8. I would book that next time.

Comment: I went to Coral Tree Tea House yesterday with a group of colleagues. I had to take my 4 month old baby with me due to unavoidable reasons. He was the most well behaved baby, however, he made the mistake of making some noise while the server was reading out the menu. I was told, If you baby gets fussy, you have to get him out.I felt utterly humiliated and disappointed by how they treat their customers. Our group was also asked to lower their voice as it was deemed disturbing for the table next to us.The food was ok, however, I wont suggest anyone to even think of going there with kids because it looks like babies and children arent welcome there.

Comment: This venue is beautiful with the most exquisite service from such lovely ladies. They have arranged things wonderfully so that your group feels intimate while sharing space with other parties. The dishware is gorgeous and every table is unique. Tea selection is astounding and the pastries and other treats are made on site so the baked ones are warm when delivered to your table. Although our party did not have any children in it there were several around us that did and they appeared to have a lovely custom platter for little tastes.

Comment: Coral Tree Tea House has a nice variety of teas to try. Aside from the Coral Tree Tea that was ready for us at the table, we tried the Ginger Peach, French Blend, and Michelle (my favorite). The selection of food was underwhelming. For example, the sandwiches werent anything special and scones were extremely dry and the cream spreads lacked flavor. No one in our party finished the scones. Our server seemed annoyed when we asked questions or requested water and milk, although she was very knowledgeable of the teas and building. Also, they will split checks two ways.

Comment: I had the worst experience here, usually it is very fun and inviting but yesterday we asked for a different table since ours was on the front porch, next to the entrance door that was across from a table of at least 8 people. We were definitely not 6 feet apart. So we asked to move to a different table and were told it would take some extra time, which was alright with us. On our way to the new table, the older lady told us that we better leave a tip because of all the trouble weve caused them and that we shouldve called beforehand to ask for a patio table since we dont want to sit on the porch. No, we did not care where we sat, we just wanted to maintain social distancing. Sorry theres a pandemic. Retrain staff to be more hospitable and understanding.

Comment: I can not say enough wonderful things about this amazing tea service. I literally cried because the owner is so thoughtful and personable. I LOVE THIS PLACE. I went for my birthday with my mom and aunts. My mom has always wanted to do high tea. We have looked for years...i looked through SF all through SD and OC....finally after years I picked Coral Tree. I am so happy I waited but now am so scared to be disappointed if I go anywhere else 😊 The sandwiched were so decadent. The pastries so fresh. The tea was amazing...bright and flavorful. So hard to just pick one thats why I need to go back many many more times. The view is amazing. Durung this uneasy time of a pandemic the porch was set up so beautiful and the view was stunning. Thank you for making tea so special. Lemon card and Devonshire cream is heaven! 10 stars!

Comment: I had a terrible time there. Tea was nice but we were in a room with 6 women who thought they were in a bar. We couldn’t have a conversation because they were laughing loudly and yelling for 1 hour straight. The owners noticed it but did absolutely nothing. I complained about it and nothing was done. One win for the bullies I guess. So I sat looked at the corner of the room and waited for my tea to be over so I could leave.If you are lucky enough to be sharing the space with polite human beings I guess you could have an awesome time.

Comment: This experience turned out to be such a disappointment. We had a reservation about a week or two in advance and they confirmed the number of people, our orders and our allergens. We showed up on time and were seated immediately. The food came out rather quickly and thats where the problems started. My mom has a life-threatening allergy to pinenuts, yet upon her plate being brought out we were told there was a sandwich with pesto which is known to contain pinenuts. The server took it back immediately and when she went to the kitchen she confirmed there were pinenuts. Unfortunately the server got really defensive when we tried to explain that whoever confirmed our reservation our allergens should really have passed that information back to the kitchen. From then our server treated us very poorly, even skipping over us as she checked on the other tables. I went to go speak with a woman who seemed to be in charge and she told me whe was a co-owner. She emphasized that there were in fact no pinenuts in the pesto but did very little to reassure us or console us. One bite could have sent us to the hospital and we were on a vacation. We have been to high tea everywhere from Victoria, B.C. to Pasadena, to the Queen Mary, to the Disneyland hotel. Despite how beautiful the location is (hence the two stars), the customer service was deplorable. I assure you, we wont be back.

Comment: I was excited that I had found a place that I can have a tea party with my daughter. I called to make a reservation ahead of time. The lady on the phone sounded so rushed and I told her what I wanted and basically the only way I could make a reservation for a Saturday, mothers day is if I buy into the 45.00 menu. At first I was flabbergasted by the prices, when all I want is tea and scone! but then she proceeded on explaining why they wanted you to buy into the 45.00 menu, and started giving me the option of coming in on Thursday or Friday. After giving thought of the explanation, I was going to buy into to it just because it meant that much to my daughter, but after I told her I couldnt do Thursday or Friday she soon cut me off and said ok then good bye. It was VERY rude. I was hoping for a good experience and hoping to take other family there but this place is definitely off my list. I understand you are a business and you are trying to keep people from burning you as you stated but your rudeness was not necessary.

Comment: I celebrated my birthday here. It was such a wonderful experience. The food was delicious. I love goat cheese and fig sandwiches, the spinach sandwiches, the variety of teas and deserts. The two ladies who own the shop were really sweet. We also were able to pick hats to wear during our teatime. Highly recommend.

Comment: What a lovely time we had at the tree house. We had reservations for a larger group. It felt a little rushed being the weekend before Valentines. The tree was amazingly delicious! The sandwiches, pastries and treats were scrumptious and the room was cozy and quaint. This is a great place for a womens event, a visit with friends or a birthday celebration (for both big and little girls). I would love to visit again and will stop by to purchase tea in the future.

Comment: I regret taking my sister to this place. We were seated in a corner and overlooked. Really, we felt forgotten. The customer service here is extremely poor. The old ladies running the place were cranky and rude. The food was not good either. A few tea sandwiches on cheap white bread, box mix scones and brownies, store-bought cake - all this for $34.00 per person plus a 20% service fee! Tea is an experience, but clearly these people dont know how to bring it. I wont be returning!

The friends tea was a favorite along with a caramel brûlée one. Yummy!!!The food we were served was amazingly yummy...starting with the homemade apple salad that was very light and refreshing. Then the yummy plates on the tiered tray, mini sandwiches, mini quiches,cookies, scones, etc.great service and and a great time. Hope to get back there again.

Comment: Hands down, possibly the worst Tea House that I have been to. I frequently visit all kinds of wonderful tea houses all over the world and what I experienced at this snobbish cheap tea house is unforgettable. My first and likely last visit there: They tried too hard to be elegant, have mediocre teas and Cisco-esque over-priced food. I understand the necessity for overhead in an expensive place like San Diego, so the asking prices should definitely include some humility and respect if they intend on staying in business. Not certain if the influence of the full moon was having a negative effect on the elder tea hostesses, because I hope they are not commonly rude to new patrons. If youre in the area, check it out, but leave your expectations at the door.

I have been to tea at the Dorchester in London (supposed to be the best in England) and it cannot compare to Coral Tree Tea House. It is such a cute Victorian House on a little brick road. And the service was wonderful; they seemed to appear just when you needed something. We could not finish all the goodies, so they gave us a take out box. Everything was delicious.I really will go back often if I can get a reservation! Thanks to all the gracious women who work there.

Comment: Feeling fancy and oh so dainty after having afternoon tea. The atmosphere was exactly what I expected, kitschy and comfy. We had our choice of tea from a fairly extensive list and the nibbles were delightful. The service was unrushed, which was actually nice in this instance. My friend and I were able to sit and chat and just take our time. Oh! They have hats on the wall you can borrow for the occasion!
