Comment: I really love this place and they serve very delicious food. However, I want to share my disappointment about the Herring Salad, known as Shuba. This dish is supposed to contain a significant amount of herring fish, but unfortunately, the small portion I paid $14 for included only about 2% fish. I hope the chef sees this review and considers improving the dish.

Comment: Our recent visit to Cinderella Bakery and Cafe was profoundly disappointing. After an inexplicable wait of over 20 minutes, our Borsch soup was finally served, only to arrive cold, stripping it of its intended comforting warmth. The pastries and Siberian-style pies bore a stale taste, as if they had been sitting for over a month. The meat was exceedingly dry and utterly bland, lacking any semblance of flavor. It appears that our first visit to Cinderella Bakery and Cafe will also be our last. We do not recommend this bakery.

Comment: Cinderella is a cozy Russian bakery and cafe that offers a nice experience. Visiting on a Sunday afternoon, I enjoyed their set of dumplings, although the food was good rather than excellent. What stood out was the speedy service despite the place being busy, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. If youre looking for a charming atmosphere and efficient service along with tasty Russian fare, Cinderella is worth a visit. Unfortunately no restrooms

Amazing food with lots of choices from soups to sandwiches to salads to (of course) the star: pastries!Such variety and quality…everything we ate across the board was amazing…some names in Russian so I can’t remember… but I do remember the poppyseed sweet roll… photo here. I will DREAM -about that one. Too delicious!😳And Vatrushkas cheese pie… perfect for those of us who love ricotta cheese cake… same hearty texture. Incredible! No offense to Arizmendi… but Cinderella has replaced you as my go to place.

Comment: Baking Russian breads and serving up fried pastries and home-style cooking since 1953, Cinderella Bakery and Cafe is officially a San Francisco Legacy Business.Walk in to an impressive sight of heaping piles of fried pirozhki (with fillings ranging from mushroom, cabbage, potato and beef), flaky croissants (chocolate, almond, cherry, raisin, ham and cheese), cookies and macarons as well as savory Siberian pirogi pies. From the kitchen, a wide variety of stick-to-your-bones soups, stews and entrees that will warm you to your soul. Multiple choices of Russian pelmeni (boiled dumplings) and blinchki (crepes) to name a few as well as grab-and-go salads standard on any Russian table (Olivyeh, herring salad, vinaigrette, etc)A true delight, especially when washed down with a refreshing glass of house made kvas (slightly sweet and tangy rye bread beer). Ample outdoor seating.

Comment: Delicious and lovely but I asked in person and all of the soups are made with chicken broth, fyi for vegans/vegetarians! The borscht (incredible if you’re not veg) is described on Postmates as a tomato broth so I thought it was veg, but alas. (The kale pastry was vegetarian and great though, ditto some sweet pastries.)

Comment: We had an almond croissant, cheese Danish with some fruit and blinchikis. It was particularly cold that morning so we took it to eat in the car because they dont have any indoor seating. Too bad because this place is super crowded every weekend and maybe they could expand into a place that has some seating. The star of the show was the food of course and very delicious coffee to go with the almond croissant which was my favorite. The cheese danish was the favorite of my partner who and he noted that it was a nice kind of whipped texture versus really thick cream cheese texture. We would go back sometime when it is warm enough to get something more substantial and sit outside.

Comment: I was here for the very 1st time on Jan 4th, 2024 between 3-4pm in the afternoon . The lady behind the counter was very rude. No customer service skills. More busy on her phone then interested in greeting customers . As I sat outside and ate my food. I could see she was on her phone all the time. I did customer service in my 20s and had i done that, I would be fired.I had no issues with my food. Which I ordered and ate on location. The server who brought my food was good too. They really need to hire a more professional individual behind the counter who understands customer service and how to treat every one who walks in the door.1 bad person in the team can bring down the whole team !

This isnt an establishment that will scream at you with all its glitz and glam, but itll lure you in with its largely Russian inspired fare such as blinchiki, borscht, vatrushka, honey cakes and a host of other goodies! Their coffee is pretty decent too. They have outdoor only seating so if its rainy or windy, bundle up, because this little establishment is definitely worth a visit!!

Comment: Unfortunately, Cinderella went downhill in regards to both food and service. When we got there, a table for six people was occupied by a single staff person wearing a white shirt with restaurant’s logo on it. There were no other tables that would accommodate our party of 4, but there was a table for one. When I asked if he was sitting there alone, he blurted “yep” without even raising his eyes. The line was out the door, but another staff decided to chat with a random non-customer who just stopped by for a chat in broken russian. The food was awful. Truly tasteless dry Siberian pies, dry vareniki, incredibly sweet kompot, mediocre borscht… This pared with the checked out and unfriendly staff just made me not want to go back there ever.

Comment: This place is great! They have a lot of great options for food, which are much broader than a typical bakery menu. The drinks are much broader, too. You can definitely count on getting a full meal here if you want. The staff have always been especially helpful, making recommendations and explaining different menu items, etc. They will bring your food out to you and bus your table, or you can take care of it yourself if you want. The seating is outside, partially covered, and really a very nice environment. This is not in the part of San Francisco where you have deal with random people approaching your table outside, so the atmosphere is great all around.

Comment: It was a while ago. But what I remember is that I was blessed to have experienced this lovely Russian breakfast joint. I love any European foods. I’m Always up to try something new. My photo shows a chicken piroshki and a dessert (forgot the name, sorry). Both were Delicious.I was going for the sweet savory thing which is pretty much my thing most of the time. We ordered kind of quick because the place gets pretty packed. The line was down the street. Luckily we got there early enough. We were even lucky enough to get a table inside. I wish it wasn’t quick because by the time we were done I encountered the outdoor seating and customers were having omelets that looked so “I-have-to-get-that-next-time” good. On the real fr fr! If you get my drift? I haven’t been there since that one time. But since I’m writing this review, l may just stop by this week. Look for my updated reviews. Comment: Here lies a quaint no nonsense bakery that cuts the frills and unnecessary chitchat and gets you exactly what you want and when you need it. Super quick and efficient staff but helpful when needed. I tried a lot of items from the menu and the piroshki might have been my favorite - deep fried guilty goodness but packs in all the flavor in the ground beef. Had the blinchikis for dine in and they were really good. I wouldve preferred to have a sweet and savory option though as 2 sweet ones were a lot. Overall a pleasant stay and I wish I could go back to try more of their baked goods!

Comment: We trekked over here from the financial district for a morning nosh after reading about the bakery being one of the best in the city and it did not disappoint. It was a misty/light rainy morning and all of the seating is outside (most covered but things were still damp!) which made our leisurely breakfast a bit wet but that is okay. The line out the door, was a great sign, especially on a late Friday morning. We ordered a number of items, including some a Russian bakery item which was the whole point of our adventure and some coffee. I will first say that regardless of what bakery item you order, there is nothing better than any freshly baked carb based item! Spinach, chocolate and cherry croissant/Danish items were delicious. We ordered this slice of something that was divine that had ground beef, spices and ? If I lived here, I would likely be a regular.

Comment: The best Russian food I have tasted outside of Russia recently.Rassolnik soup was a delice, even my son (who is not fan of Russian soups) has appreciated it. The black bread they bake on the spot, offered for free with your soups and salads, was very fresh and completed my lunch wonderfully. Fried pirojok was nice. Potato puree so light and flavourful with whipped butter, added a nice touch!Thank you and keep it up! Спасибо!

Comment: After a long walk thru Richmond to the ocean and back thru Golden Gate park. I was very hungry, but my wife wanted to go to the Japanese Tea Gardens for tea and cookies, which I enjoy but would not come close to fulfilling my appetite. Remembered the Cinderella was nearby, we had not had a chance to eat there before and reminded her. Since she grew up eating stuffed cabbage and kasha, convinced her to go there instead. Had a very enjoyable lunch/experience with excellent service.

Comment: Bakery Russian style looked so charming from inside and out but when i went to counter and asked if anything was gluten free she was very kurt and dismissive with her answer. I took a paper menu to study it and probably besides some flour used as thickening agent a few items on the menu were gluten free. I had the cabbage rolls which were very average and small portion given the price. The macroons were quite good but lacked delicacy. Its a popular place but the rude response and average food didnt not impress me

Comment: Your rubles are worth very little here. All the good is really good if you like Russian cuisine, but prices are ... inflated. Dont think you can order the blinchiki (crepes rolled up like spring rolls with a filling) and expect a decent portion. The mushroom blinchiki are a whopping $12 for two little crepe rolls and a small cup of sour cream. If they were $8, I would call them slightly expensive. $12 is outrageous, even after two years of moderate inflation.

Comment: I really wanted to like this place and Ive had good experiences here, but the last time I was here was a rough enough experience that Ive downgraded this place a star and a half. The hot chocolate that I ordered here missed the mark in both sweetness and chocolate flavor, and it ended up being really expensive for something that tasted like it was made from cheap cocoa mix. The dumplings, which I greatly enjoyed before, were blander and smaller than I remembered and only came out warm. Again, Ive had some good experiences here but its inconsistent so I cant really recommend, although if you come here when theyre firing on all cylinders its pretty good.

Comment: This has been an establishment in the inner Richmond for a long time, known for their Russian inspired baked goods. We got the piroshiki and though we know Gorgonzola is strong cheese, it definitely overwhelms everything else to the point that you can’t taste anything else. The honey cake was actually my favorite as it wasn’t too sweet. The strawberry croissant was just ok, nothing to write home about in terms of croissant texture nor flavor. 3 items came out to about $20 which is standard nowadays but they do have a few other items I want to come back and try, hopefully raise the stars on this review.

Comment: Yummy borsch, not enough meat, but closest to my grandma’s borsch I’ve tried outside of Russia. Crepes are great too. Siberian pie with noodles that they offer doesn’t exist in Siberia, as Siberian born and raised I can definitely tell I have never seen any pies with noodles before.

Comment: My niece picked out the spot, parking is atrocious (to be expected)...but once we got settled in, I couldnt have been happier! Every item in the case looked amazing, I was extremely tempted to buy too many items for later. But we ordered the French toast & avocado toast from the menu- both were perfectly prepared and very satisfying. I look forward to going back for a pastry splurge!

Can’t go wrong with any of the pastries, but the almond cake, honey walnut, and Napoleon (can’t remember what they called it) are all amazing.

Comment: My first time here! After trying their delicious beef stroganoff with mashed potatoes, Solianka soup and Kompot drink, I went back in and got a bunch of piroshkis, meat pies and sweet desserts to go! Everything was so soooo good!! I was here on a Tuesday at 3:00 in the afternoon, there was a short line in front of me, but it moved fast. As soon as I grabbed a table, the line had grown! This place is definitely popular and an asset to this Inner Richmond neighborhood. So glad I came. 😍

Comment: I was excited to finally eat some Russian food and this was a big disappointment. The solyanka soup is an abomination of the dish, don’t ever get it. The sour cherry dumplings are mediocre. The Olivier salad is really hard to spoil so it was ok apart from the mayo - it wasn’t the original Russian mayo. Khvorost is really bad as well. This place would fail in Russia.

Comment: Delicious! We went to this place for brunch and werent disappointed. The only thing I didnt enjoy was the croissant, because it was dry, most likely because it lacked butter. But we came there for the dumplings and the normal ones had the same delicious flavour as the ones I tried in Russia. The chicken ones werent as tasty in comparison but maybe they were healthier. The desert ones with cherry are amazing. They have a sitting space outside which is great.Overal, I will go back to this place again for another amazing brunch and recommend that you do the same.

Comment: The food was good but not the service. The lady taking my order was a bit rude. And I will say some things arent authentic Russian dishes. Baked instead of fried like traditionally they would be and a few other things but thats fine. I make at home my own. I enjoyed their pastries and sweet cheese bread. Cookies are very small for $1.00, I feel they would he 25 cent each for the size.. maybe 50 cents.

Comment: Very nice little place! It was hoppin busy when we went, had to wait maybe 10 minutes in line but got a table quickly, fast service! It was my first time having Russian food, and I really enjoyed it! The peroshki from the bakery were so good! We had beef and cheddar, potato, and mushroom styles. The mushroom was soo mushroom forward, yum yum!Borscht was delicious! Very dill herb forward, nice stewed cabbage and tomato was still a bit of bite, very nice texture. Came with a really nice house bread, medium brown similar to a rye.We got the boiled dumplings, potato filling, for non-Russian familiar similar to pierogi but boiled. They were good! Fried onion on top and sour cream was delicious. The only thing I knock it for is the fried items were pretty old and sitting around, werent heated up at all. The flavors were great but texture and taste was more gummy and oily. We brought some home to heat up and it was much better roasted a bit.

Comment: They have a wild selection of things to choose from, and outdoor seating was pretty cozy. The pelmeni was good, but the baked pirozhki was just meh, not heated up enough and took a few too many bites to get to the filling. The apple jelly pie/tart was just meh, apples were firm and cherry jam on top seems very artificial. Eclair and chai latte was pretty good though.

Comment: Came here for the first time in years, ordered borscht and meat pirozhki. I grew up in a family of great cooks, so consider having high standards. Both were excellent. My mom makes great borscht, but Cinderellas was actually on par. Great borsch needs to have this flavorful sweet and sour taste, and their definitely had that nice sweetness to it (maybe red bell peppers?).And meat pirozhki.. I almost swallowed it, it was so good. Fluffy soft dough and lightly spiced meat, freshly cooked.Always a huge plus, helpful and polite staff and a relaxed atmosphere of seating outside and enjoying your meal.

Comment: First time in SF, found this bakery to try pirozhki, I was not impressed, chicken in filo dough has so much onion that dough gets sticky and leaks, outside no crunch or fluffiness, other was beef fried pirozhki, staffing was dry and no flavor and the dough is stretching like a rubber too, had to throw them all in trash ., Hope there hot food is better, because people had borsh and pelmeni and seems were enjoying it too. I also lived in Russia for quite a while, so I definitely know the taste of Russian food.It was ok to eat in Cinderella, but I expected to find more authentic food in this place. Comment: The line took me a few minutes to traverse, but the food was worth it! Everything was fresh and delicious. Textures and flavors all on point!I ordered the pelmeni in chicken broth, beef/gorgonzola piroshki, salmon pierogi, and a strawberry custard croissant. Altogether this was about $27.The pelmeni dish was my favorite! It was warm, homey, and delicious. It came with 2 slices of brown bread and some creamed butter to spread, as well as a little bowl of sour cream, which complimented the umami meat dumpling flavors well. The broth was especially savory and comforting.Of the pastries (which I took to-go to share with others), the stuffed croissant definitely shone. It was refreshing and not too sweet, with a wonderful crisp to the croissant which remained despite each bite of creamy custard. The pierogi was yummy, with a significant quantity of salmon filling (along with some glass noodle bits that were full of flavor). I liked the textures plenty. Turns out that my husband found the overall flavor a bit too fishy for his preferences, though. The piroshki was straightforward- with a solidly yummy flavor developed between the beef and the cheese. I couldnt have guessed there was gorgonzola- the mix worked smoothly together and wasnt stinky to me at all.

Comment: The pelmeni with chicken and the butchers steak sandwich were really good. The breads taste with the pelmeni went nicely with the soup, which was very flavorful. Both the bread for the pelmeni and sandwich had crunchy outsides with surprisingly soft insides, making for a great texture. The kompot is an interesting sweet flavor, and you can ask for ice to be added on a sunny day. The iced tea is a watermelon mint type of flavor, and isnt sweet as it leaves a refreshing aftertaste. The drinks come in plastic cups and lids, but the straws are made out of paper (way to be environmentally friendly).

Comment: I have no idea how I lived in SF for 5 years and I missed this spot! I’m not going to go super hype but if you are a Richmond or Sunset local, you probably already know it. And if you are from Mission and the other side of the hill, don’t ruin it for us!

Comment: My go-to spot when I need that grandma’s chicken soup to recover from bad eating habits. Russians say you have to eat soup regularly to keep your digestive system healthy. So that’s why I’m here — Saturday morning after a long Friday night, with a bowl of chicken soup and sun shining in my face.Try their Beef Stroganoff with mashed potatoes, Olivier aka Russian salad and beef pelmeni (dumplings) with sour cream. All taste as good as if my mom made it.

Comment: We got the apricot pastry to go, and it was so gross we had to throw it away. The base wasnt properly cooked (or the pastry was made days ago and wasnt fresh), the topping mixing fresh apricot and confiture was far too gelatinous and tasted very off (similar to mold you find on cheese). Wont go back.

Comment: Wonderful and authentic Russian bakery. Its an absolute treat to visit and eat here weather its to grab a quick bite and be on your way or sit a while and enjoy. Theres plenty of variety and the staff is cordial and lovely. I cant recommend the piroshki or the macaroons enough!

Comment: Love this place, amazing for breakfast, good Kavas(they have beer on tap too), Good coffee and great food. They only have one register so be ready for a short wait(unless someone show up and decides to get 2 dozens of pastries and being picky about it). But In general they are nice and quick.

Comment: Coffee is on the strong and sour side but the food menu is great. Long line but the employees are pretty fast and friendly. Theres tables for you to eat outside since the inside can get pretty crowded

Comment: Great food. Their croissants are amazing. Already tried their chocolate, buttered, and ham and cheese. All top notch. Dont recommend getting their bagels. Super small for what you pay and its not like this is a bagel place anyways. They also sell loaves of fresh bread. Radio playing Russian music station very authentic overall. Great friendly staff. Use the point thing they have at counter on 2nd visit you are already getting as free croissant.Only major negative would be limited indoor seating but this is San Francisco.

Comment: The food here is so good that people come from across the bay for it. The line is nearly always out the door regardless of the day, time or weather. They get though the line very quickly so you’re not going to wait a long time in spite to the long line. The soups are delicious, the sweet pastries are very good and so are the sandwiches.

Comment: Renovated cafe with a new layout and service. We love to go to this cafe, food was always the best and most authentic in my opinion. It was a restaurant before, now its set up more like bakery cafe. Most seating is outside, only one table and bar seating inside. Kitchen takes the most space now and very busy. There are more variety of food now, really good fresh bread, various pirogi and blini. Soups are excellent: bortch, harcho, soljanka, barley - all authentic and healthy. They also sell small packs of pelmeni and vareniki. Prices are a bit more expensive than at the Russian grocery stores. I ordered everything to go and spend $200+ on 5 grocery bags of food. Absolutely loved it and so happy that this wonderful restaurant is bussy and successful.

Comment: I got potato vareniki and they were delicious. The wait was a little long and it was pretty tight inside because it’s so small, and the food is pricey. There is seating outside, but it’s pretty limited. The cashier was very pleasant and nice.

Comment: I came here with really high expectations for the food since the food bloggers all have been posting pictures of this place. Maybe my expectations were too high, food was good but nothing spectator. I liked the salad even though it looks plain. Its better than the challah french toast I had. The honey cake was a bit on the too sweet side for me but I did really like the poppy seed cake! So overall Im glad I tried it. If there was a line then I wouldnt say this is worth the wait!

Comment: Loved the food and atmosphere. Had the broche soup and mozzarella and red pepper panini with avocado. My husband had a steak one, they were both delicious. Then we had the Napoleon cake, in photo, which was light and fluffy. We were so full after our meal! I recommend but prepare to wait in a long line cuz this place is pretty popular( for a reason), the only reason this place looses one star is because the line was so slow.
