Comment: This is one of the coffee shops I very frequently visit because they have good coffee, delicious treats and very friendly staff.Coffee is amazing. We have two drinks today. Nitro cold brew is smooth and refreshing. Latte is beautifully crafted and perfectly creamy.For food, we have delicious avocado toast from the kitchen. I like it with eggs on them. More textures and flavors. If you want something sweet, they have lots of baked goods. I really like the chocolate chip cookie paring with the nitro cold brew. Deep coffee flavor goes well with sweet cookie. The banana bread is sooo good too. Very soft and not too sweet. Because it’s is not too sweet I think it goes well with a creamier drink like a latte.The place is also an onsite roaster so the space is very open. I wish to see coffee roasting one day while enjoying my coffee. Staff are very good at their craft. Coffees are expertly crafted. Service is also very attentive. We had a walnut allergy question regarding the banana bread. The staff wanted to double check and referred to the ingredients to make sure no walnuts are in them. We really appreciate the attention to detail.Love this coffee place.

Comment: My wife and I visited Chocolate Fish on Folsom Blvd. for coffee and a snack. We both ordered toast (Avocado for my wife and plain Almond Butter for me). My wifes toast came out first and I waited a bit longer before going back to the counter to inquire about my order. Upon receipt, it was the wrong order (mistake by cashier). The toast was remade and I was offered a refund for the difference ($2). When I went to process my refund, the manager (female w/pink hair) struggled to find the transaction on the Ipad despite us showing her several times via my credit card statement. She insisted that the last four numbers on her side did not match our credit card. Despite explaining to her that sometimes transactions dont always match exactly, yet we still confirmed with her that it was in fact our transaction. She wouldnt take our word for it and offered us a gift card instead. A gift card for $2. We declined and simply left in frustration. One because we would not frequent the business again, and two because of the incompetence of someone who holds a manager title, but yet cant problem solve a very simply transaction. It wasnt about the $2, it was the principle of correcting a mistake that was made by your employee, but yet the customer had to suffer through the lack of skill and decision making on behalf of the manager. Coffee was decent, toast was okay, but there are plenty other places in Sacramento to get coffee and better customer service. We will not return nor recommend Chocolate Fish. Post-pandemic, I have simply grown tired of the low-level and lack of accountability in the service industry and I will always stand up for the person whos actually supporting these businesses and not simply accepting mediocre service with no competent resolution on the back end.

Comment: We ordered Avo toast (one piece of bread) with the works and Almond butter toast (one piece of bread) and two coffees. We paid $27.23 and $31 with gratuity. The bread was barely toasted, the thin layer of “smashed” avocado was barely noticeable, and the flavor was bland. We were over charged $2 for the almond butter toast. The cashier apologized told us to talk to the manager with the “pink hair” for a refund.When we were ready to leave, we went to the manager with the pink hair and asked for our refund. So began the fiasco. The manager had to find the actual order on the register which she had a very hard time doing and only after asking us what we ordered, what time we ordered, and the actual amount we paid. She finally found the order and we saw it on the register. However, she then asked us for the last four digits of the credit card number we used. We gave her the number and she says it’s not the credit card used for the order. Mind you, we went to Chase website, pulled up the transaction on our actual credit card statement, and tried to show it to her. That wasn’t good enough! She claimed she had a different credit card number on the order. What kind of stupidity is this?? It’s $2, she’s looking at the actual order on the register, it’s already posted to our credit card, I’m holding and trying to give her the credit card we used, and the employee who rang us up is sitting 10 feet away “on her break!” Yet, the manager says she can’t issue the credit back to our card because the last four digits somehow don’t match.The encounter was ridiculous for no reason other than piss poor service and failure to use common sense. She offered us a gift card for $2, which we declined, since we have no intention of returning to a place that overcharges then refuses to correct their mistake. We left without getting our refund.There are too many great coffee shops in Sacramento to bother with nonsense from a place that serves sub par food, okay coffee, and has horrible customer service.

Comment: During a recent visit to Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters, I had some time to spare and decided it would be the perfect opportunity to get some studying done. I ordered an avocado toast and settled at a shared high table alongside another patron. While the idea of communal seating appealed to me, I found the seating options inside to be less than ideal. The stools were wobbly, and the table vibrated with every movement, which was quite distracting for someone in need of a quiet study space.Another unexpected source of distraction was a male barista who began his shift later in the day. His repetitive greeting of welcome in to customers entering and exiting the restroom, though well-intentioned, felt out of place in the calm atmosphere typically associated with a coffee shop.Despite these drawbacks, I was impressed with the staffs dedication to cleanliness. They were meticulously cleaning the walls, and the restroom was well-maintained—a good overall cleanliness of the establishment. The other staff members were genuinely nice, contributing to a welcoming environment.Given the high standards of cleanliness and friendly service, I’m willing to give Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters another try. Next time, I plan to sit outside and get a beverage to see if it makes for a more conducive study environment. I’ll be sure to update my review after my next visit.

I had my dog with me and was told I wasnt supposed to be in the shop with him and they had me wait outside, despite a couple having a large dog who was allowed to order inside with their dog. I asked the couple and they said they allow dogs inside to order. Limited seating inside and it isnt comfortable (no cushions). The staff werent rude but werent friendly either. This wouldnt be my go to spot for coffee.

Comment: I’m the type of person who drinks my milk and sugar with a drop of coffee, so when I accidentally ordered a latte without sugar and was too shy to correct it, I really didn’t think I’d enjoy it. But wow, my entire perspective on coffee changed, it was amazing! This place has such delicious, high-quality coffee that even a sweet tooth like me would be able to drink it black and enjoy it. The one downside is that now that I know what coffee is capable of being, Starbucks coffee only tastes like disappointment

Lady behind the counter was very knowledgeable and let me sample different varieties of coffee.I returned here daily while on vacation. I love chocolate and coffee - so win-win here.The place is very modern feeling with nice vista-like decorations on the walls. There is a huge coffee roasting machine which definitely adds a sense of where we are.They have the standard set of drinks that one would expect in a coffee shop, they are quite good and have good attention to detail; nice latte art and a good coffee flavor.There are a number of pastries on display, including actual chocolate fish as a homage to the name of the place. They have a number of types of toasts as well so this is a good place to enjoy a coffee and some other tasty food bite to start off the day.There is plenty of seating both inside and outside, in fact the outside patio has a lot of character to it and looks very comfortable to sit with friends or a lover and enjoy a relaxing time sipping your favorite drink.The service was excellent and the baristas were very friendly and accommodating. They had no problem with special requests that I had.

No outlets.Its just several times Ive gone here, the service could be improved. Barista made my drink wrong and when I asked to confirm if they forgot my vanilla, the barista was confused and didnt even address my concerns and then went elsewhere. I waited around and then someone else poured in some syrup at the counter and then told me to stir it myself. I didnt like how I felt unwelcomed, especially after paying $7 for a latte. Maybe they were still training new people or it was an off day.

Comment: Ordered an espresso over ice only to be lectured about how “they don’t do that” and “it’d ruin the flavor profile of the coffee.” After arguing that I do this at home regularly and I actually prefer the strong, bitter outcome, I was told that “scientifically” it is an outrage. Meanwhile, I can stop by Temple and get an espresso over ice without the lecture or pretentious attitude.I would’ve expected this kind of behavior if I went to an espresso bar in Italy, but not at the local Chocolate fish. My palette is not so refined that I am partial to the subtle notes of sweetness to bitterness ratios. I don’t read the bean labels which state, “hints of pomegranate, nut, and caramel” thinking, “geeee I sure do love my hints of pomegranate.” No, I merely just want a shot of decent espresso in a way that I particularly like it. If Jessica can order her americano with 3 packets of sugar and a pump of heavy whipping cream, then I see no harm in merely throwing an espresso shot into ice. Ironically, at the end of it all, they still messed up my order and proceeded to serve me with a hot espresso shot which I downed immediately in favor of getting out of that frantic, pretentious location. Perhaps next time I’ll order my espresso the “right” way. To quote a wise long gone hero, “Only Sith deal in absolutes.”

Comment: This is the 2nd out of 3 C.fish locations and its really cool they didnt go the cookie cutter route to stick to the winning formula. These guys have their own industrial roast equipment + the bean bags that look like they came fresh off the boat to match. The waterpipe lights & quality wood counter/desk/seats really make you want to stay off your phone to appreciate your surroundings. I had the macchiato&mocha (1/2 chocolate) and they were great. In my opinion what really makes or breaks cafes are the baristas,and Lucas,Phoenix, &Ted are what makes my review 5+ stars. You cant have 3rd wave coffee without 1st class baristas and from the ordering with phoenix to the brewing with lucas and serving with ted i was able to relax with the comfort of knowing my coffee was going to be prepared the way it was intended to be. Unrelated but i even caught ted walking around the counter to save a customer those few steps and serve him his avocado toast with both hands out and a smile. I come from humble beginnings im talking dine in Styrofoam plates slapped on the dirty counter and paper cups with orders being yelled like an McDonalds so im like peeles character with the continental breakfast lol. I didnt upload any pics of the place because i dont want to spoil the experience. Go enjoy it for yourselves! Definitely coming back here Tuesdays/Thursdays to see the coffee get roasted in person :)

Comment: This place is really great! Its so open and spacious for seating. Its very clean inside. I had the nitro infused coffee and it was by far the best Ive ever had! Some of the staff were a bit stiff and not interested in the customers but i have to leave 5 stars for how good the coffee was and the atmosphere inside.

Comment: They had me at the free sample nitro coffee. Talk about smoothness in coffee and a drink that would wake you up..Love how they 4 laid back chairs but the entrance. Those chairs are comfy to sit in, but when its time to go its hard to get up out of it. lol .... The table they have by the window is perfect for some coffee porn but the chairs are so dang heavy i thought i was tripping for a sec, for sure it is sturdy. I also like the counter they have by the roaster, a little more privacy and more quiet to do some studying.Latte - i love ordering these drinks because of the latte art. lol The flavor of the latte definitely has a roasted taste to it..Nitro coffee is one of my fav. Its like a morning beer. Pour like a beer. Looks like a beer. Drink it like a beer. But its coffee at the end. Its amazing and one of my to go to when i need a cold one after some flower shopping or in the area..Overall they have a parking lot but small and usually packed on Sundays when i come here. Additional parking on the side of the neighborhood. The Service is great. The people love their jobs and know how to a make a good cup of love. Thanks for reading and have a yelptastic day! Comment: Similar fresh aesthetic as Temple or other SF roasters (e.g. Blue Bottle, Ritual, Sightglass). Only had a cup of coffee but the pastries/desserts looked good too. Not sure if I’ll be back in this area again soon, but if so, I’ll definitely come by again.

Comment: This place is very good to get a cappachino or mocha. Their iced mochas are delicious! Great staff and very friendly. It has an industrial feel but also cozy. The coffee is a little on the expensive side, like 4 to 5 dollars. Their menu is great. They play good music and its warm in here for the winter time. Overall it was a great experience. I definitely recommend coming here if you like coffee thats not on a unique pallete. They also serve pastries.

Comment: This place is amazing. I bike past it every morning to work, but its always closed during that hour. I was excited to see them at the downtown may is bike fest the past two years where they support bikers and offer the best cold brew coffee Ive ever tasted. Ive even bought a bike jersey and bib shorts this year and honestly fits more comfortable than all my other biking shorts and jerseys. I cant believe I have been biking their jersey all year but never officially visited until today. Did a coffee date with the wife and was greeted by the sweetest lady at the register. She was so helpful, honestly it felt more like meeting family. Not only was the service first class, the coffee was hands down the best cup Ive had all year. They also have a area where you can buy gifts for the holidays. They had a nice biking water bottle that Im definitely going back for. Cant wait to go back for another cup of coffee!

Comment: Nice ambiance. Steam punk type of place. Not too many people around. Nice Nitro Coffee pretty smooth but has a nice kick. Management is very friendly and helpful. Nice place to come to study for a while. There are No outlets to if you are going to be using any electronic device for an extended period of time bring an extra battery.

The quality is top-notch, service is outstanding, and the various classes presented on Saturday mornings help enrich the knowledge of those of us who wish to enrich are blood percentage with more caffeine.

Comment: I had been a long time fan. A recent return after a long absence and new stores opened - you lost your soul.Baristas still talk a big talk, but they are serving substandard Americanos.Not sure where things went downhill, but I wasnt happy with my coffee or experience with my guest.

Comment: Bought coffee from chocolate fish at whole foods multiple times but never been to their shop. The employees know what they are doing when it comes to coffee, one of them was one of the rosters. Super nice guys and pour over Costa Rica natural process was delicious. Ive been to Temple and old soul but this might be my favorite.

Comment: The East Sacramento Chocolate Fish Coffee Roasters location is amazing. I always get iced coffee and unlike Starbucks, I dont have to add any sugar or cream to make it taste good. Its perfect every time. The environment is warm and inviting, its very relaxing, almost zen-like. I havent experienced anything like it from any of the other Specialty Coffee Shops in Sacramento.
