Comment: I have been here at this location and just recently attended a large group event last Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappoint with the food. The sandwich fillings were lacking in all the sandwiches (egg salad, chicken salad, etc.), it was all bread no substance; also, the scones were so dry that it made me choke. Its unfortunate it was not good the second time around.

Comment: Had an amazing time at Chado, our waiter was pleasant and explained the entire experience to us. Me and my friend chose the $38 dollar tea experience that included a three tier food selection including 4 sandwiches each, scones, and macaroons, and assorted tea infused chocolates our individually selected chose of tea, in cute tea pots, and wine infused tea. I told my mother about it and now she wants to visit.

Comment: Such a wonderful place for afternoon tea! The venue is absolutely gorgeous with some seating outside in a nice area away from the city noise. The food was delicious. Everything was fresh and yummy. I especially enjoyed the chocolates. And, of course, the tea was amazing: flavorful, fragrant, and plenty. They have a great selection of teas, including herbal / decaf ones.I loved the fact they were pretty accommodating when we requested sandwiches to be swapped to vegetarian ones. Sandwiches were super delicious too!

Comment: Had the celebration tea service it was amazing! I am allergic to egg and they were very accommodating allowing me to switch sandwiches I could not have and gave me extra butter cookies instead of a French macaron. Tea was great and service was at a good speed it is slower than most restaurants because it is an experience and not them trying to get you in and out. I use a wheelchair and they were very accommodating for that as well!

Comment: It was a nice place to hang out with girls. They have a book of tea menu, although many of them were not available. Still it was nice to have variority choice. The tea quality was great.Afternoon tea set was actually not bad. My expectation was pretty low after reading some reviews about their quality of food, but it was okay.I think the vibe can be better though. Some merchandises they displayed to sell look cheap and a bit off. I’m not sure you can find luxurious afternoon place around LA, but I wish better vibes than this. But thinking about the price I pay, it’s not bad.

Comment: Had the afternoon tea and added soup. My companion had the same but with salad. For tea, we had the rooibos, which was excellent, and the milk oolong, which was a tad weak but also excellent. The tomato soup was good. But overall, I’d say the food was quite generic and unremarkable. Nothing you couldn’t fix at home or buy at the grocery store. It was a cute and pleasant experience, and it costs much less than other high tea places, $25-35 depending on what you get. We definitely had fun here, the crowd and staff were all friendly and in good spirits.I would not get the tea tower here again, but I would go back just for tea. I did try to buy blooming tea to take home, but they told me they only sell mango and peach dry. Would return to buy cool blooming tea if they would sell it to me.

Comment: Pretty meh tea service. Sandwiches were super bland, barely any filling. They dont serve alcohol, which to me is a cardinal sin for an afternoon tea. How is it a tea service with no champagne??? I will say, the tomato soup is excellent. Other than that, not a lot of highlights. Skip this one.

Real diverse selection of loose leaf tea in big tins so I bought 2 ozs of organic wuyishan Oolong to try out at home since it smells really nice…

Comment: A nice place to hang out with your friends. I came here with some friends for Sunday brunch, it was cute and sweet. I ordered the soup and a pot of tea. The soup was delish. Parking is in a structure down the street, which is kind of difficult to get in and get out of. Warning: they cut the crusts off of the bread if you order sandwiches. If you like your crusts, tell them. Also the sandwich bread seems to be basic white bread. Like bargain store bread lol.I did notice that all the employees are Latinx. I’m not sure who the owner of the tea room is but it I hope they treat them well. Overall a very good experience. Would come again.

They made me feel like I wasn’t worth their time and they took away my tea at 5:53 and said they closed at 6.When I asked for the remaining tea in the pot before he left, he scoffed at me and said it was only a little bit.The management needs to reevaluate their hiring process.Date visited: July 2nd

Comment: I’ve tried Chado several times now and it’s consistently one of the most underwhelming places I’ve been to. I do not understand the appeal: the tea is fine, the sandwiches are only slightly better than that picture of the dinner at Fyre Fest that went viral, the scones dry as sawdust, and they literally serve raw greens as a “salad”—the equivalent of taking one of those trader joe’s mixed greens bags and dumping it on a plate.Technically, it’s not terrible. I’m sure plenty of people enjoy the atmosphere or whatever. But if you’re looking for unique or flavorful or nutritious food and drink, look elsewhere. It’s just not worth it.

Comment: The seating outside by the waterfall is lovely. The tea was delicious and my scone was good. Although after my scone began to cool, it got a bit hard so it made me suspicious that it was microwaved and not baked to get it warm. The cream and the marmalade was very nice.I am taking away one star because of the teapot. There were three other tables being served at the same time we were there. They all got lovely porcelain teapots with floral accents. Two ladies at another table had floral porcelain tea pots that were shaped like elephants. This is the tea pot we got.Mind you we had two pots of tea and they were both served in this very crude clay pot. When I go to a tea room, I would like a slightly elegant experience. Not a teapot that looks like they bought it at Big Lots.

Comment: Honestly, the nicer of the many locations, mainly because of the space available! Right next to the Japanese American History Museum, cozy interior, and the staff is pretty nice. Ive been here many times with my wife and family, we always get the main 3 tier.I personally would at its a nice place to take someone on a date, its relatively quiet, but does have its busy days! One gripe about the way it works is that to order take out, youre supposed to call someone at their Pasadena location, and ask them to send the order to the location of your choice, or the default is Pasadena, or at least, thats what I was told, ymmv. Its not a deal breaker, but it does seem to make things a bit more difficult. If they had online ordering, though, I cant imagine how overworked they might get, so theres a happy medium there somewhere, just gotta tweak it a bit to get it in the sweet spot.Order a few days in advance if its a large thing so theyre able to get things ready when you stop by.

Comment: Unprofessional. We had reservations for 11 am, confirmed far in advance. We came there at 11 am and waited around until 11:10 am. Lights were still turned off and doors were locked. We left thinking something may have happened with covid restrictions/election anxiety. We came back at 11:30 am just to check because I was really excited about it. They were just starting to open. Then, they had the nerve to lecture me to call them if I was going to be late. I wasnt going to care because its tough times. Tea was good, food was okay for the price. I recommend The Tea House on Los Rios, however for the tearoom experience although its a bit pricier.

Comment: Let me just say this place was amazing. I went on Sep 10th for my birthday meetup. My friends were quite shy and unsure of this establishment ( so was I ). The waiter was kind to explain the experience we are about to embark and helped us understand the teas we were about to choose. The waiter was very understanding, that I couldnt have cottage cheese and salmon, so he offered me ham and cheese. To my friends and my delight, we were all in awe on the great tasting food we began to consume. The teas were exquisite. The only thing I would recommend, is that we can choose our type of sandwiches. My friend enjoyed the tomato bisque, we all had a little taste and were in love. We all plan to return again. Thank you for making our first experience a memorable one.

Comment: We went in to try their tea as it was our first time in the Hollywood area. I came with my family and some family friends to enjoy a new experience at the Chado tea room. The female staff member was accommodating initially and helped us settle in. We were waiting for more of our group to join us while we sat inside the tea room. When the rest of our group finally came into the tea room, The older Asian gentleman rushed out, extremely rude and unfriendly to turn them away. We had all driven almost an hour in LA traffic, only to be treated like scum. I can understand the staff saying that there might be a wait to get served etc, however he was unbelievably rude and condescending. The rest of our group ( my siblings who live in California) ended up politely leaving. I had my young kids with me and some friends and their teenagers present, who had actually suggested we try out the place. So I decided to finish their tea without making a fuss or creating an unpleasant atmosphere.Very poor customer service that leaves a lasting impression more than the tea itself. If I could give 0 stars, I would.

Comment: Let me start off with the positive and the ONLY reason this location is getting a one. Simply put, the teas were excellent. HOWEVER, the service we received was the worst service for an eating establishment, I have ever received in Los Angeles. We were there (4 of us on Saturday June 22, 2019) after touring the museum. We walked in, basically not really knowing a lot about teas. And we were treated as if we were exactly that. They reluctantly said we could sit in the corner (not realizing there was outdoor sitting) as there was a very larger party in there as well. The server who finally came ran through the tea menu hurriedly and frankly acted as if he could not be bothered. When he finally came to take our order, I had ordered Jasmine pearls and my friend wanted that too. But he sharply said, No, pick something else! What?! My other friends picked a tea for which there were several choices of its form. But when my friend said one,the server bluntly told him that it was obvious he did not know what the difference between the choices were. He made no attempt to explain what the choices were. My friends ordered the coconut cake for dessert but the cake was inedible. It was dry and obviously sitting around a long time and they got this on HIS recommendation. When the teas arrived, no one asked us if we wanted milk, sugar, or honey. (I wanted and needed honey). No one asked how the teas were or the dessert. We had to ask for the check. No one even asked us anything. We paid and left. My friend left a small tip where as I would have left nothing. That server was rude, obvious, condescending, and a bully. If he was attempting to be funny, WE did not find it funny at all. We shall NEVER return to this location again. I do not know what kicks one gets in belittling people who may not have a full appreciation of teas but wanted to gain a good experience of one. His arrogance was only matched with his rudeness.

Comment: I enjoyed a lovely afternoon of tea after a memorable visit to the Japanese American Museum. Service was swift and my waiter was welcoming and friendly. I ordered the standard afternoon tea and added a cup of soup. The tomato soup was scrumptious and was followed by four tea sandwiches. I was able to select the fillings of egg, chicken, cucumber and a Mediterranean filling and these were very flavorful. The scone was served with a creamy spread and apricot jam. A perfect macaron and shortbread cookie were the sweet endings. I choose Earl grey for my pot of tea. (They have an extensive book of tea choices)I needed to get to Union Station to catch a cab and was planning to walk. The waiter insisted it would be too far and walked me through how to take the train. My feet thank him! He could not have been kinder! Great experience on my last day in California. Thank you so much!!!

Comment: Had a lovely baby shower here for a co-worker a few months ago. They did an okay job of setting us up although I asked for it to be outside and they seated us inside. The food took a very, VERY long time to come out which on a week day luncheon is something to be concerned with- we almost had to cut our lunch short to back in back in time for meetings. Altogether though the experience was nice. Dont come here if you have any plans afterwards because you may be late for those, and just make sure you are extra clear about where you want to be seated if that matters.... the inside and outside are quite different in ambiance.

Comment: Lets begin with the positives:The ambiance is nice. Its clean (I saw the staff change the tablecloths after customers left). The staff is nice, very sweet people. They served us a complimentary pot of blooming tea. There are many varieties of tea so this was a nice gesture. The tomato soup was delicious, but a very small serving. The negatives: There is no adjacent parking so we paid $10 and still had to walk a block. There were only two staff members, so it took a while to get served. Worst of all, the sandwiches were bad. The classic cucumber sandwiches had no seasoning at all, just creamcheese with roughly cut cucumber slices. The salmon sandwiches were just pieces of bread with a slice of salmon. The egg sandwich had that slightly rancid taste of eggs boiled two or three weeks ago.In conclusion, if you decide to try it, skip the samdwiches, get some tea to share and some scones.

Comment: The tea service itself is fine. The sandwiches and scones are tasty. The cookies and macaroons that finish your meal are basic and seem cheap. The tea is great but dont ask for more additional hot water. Not sure if dumped the previous tea leaves or they just have vats in the back of all their teas premade, but I legit just got hot water. They have heaters outside, but apparently for decor only.Service is friendly but slow as molasses.Dont come in a group unless you all have cash. They wont take multiple cards.Do yourself a favor and visit the Pasadena location. It is better.

Comment: Did the Afternoon Tea for 4 on Groupon. Paid only $50 for what normally is a $120 thing. They waiter was pretty knowledgeable about the teas and there was also a wide selection of teas to choose from. Other than the small sample cups of tea ( a selection from light to dark teas) each person also gets to choose one pot of tea for themselves. Along with that, you get a 4 mini sandwiches, scones, small dessert biscuits and 2 mini macarons.

Comment: Service was terrific but the teas we tried were too light. We like our teas to have a stronger taste and were rather disappointed with teas that tasted just like water.

Comment: My mother found her favorite tea here, adn she had no trouble finding it because the staff are basically all sommeliers but for tea. The sandwiches were adorable and delicious. The atmosphere and environment were just perfect during our visit.

Comment: I like the location of this Chado Tea Room in what was formerly the adjacent Japanese American National Museums gift shop/cafe.I treated my former roommate to Afternoon Tea for Two using a coupon. It included the Afternoon Tea Tier - a tower of goodies of sandwiches, scones and a slice of cake. I chose the Chado salad consisting of Mixed Baby Greens and Viniagrette with toast as my starter. The special dessert was the Maritius Tea Float - basically an ice cream float with tea instead of soda. However, the food tasted mediocre and I cannot recommend, but the teas were high-grade and brewed perfectly.A-ok for a serene and beautiful place to have a quality pot of tea in the heart of Little Tokyo; get your sweet tooth and savory fix elsewhere. I’ve also been to the Chado Tea Room in Hollywood and I’d say the ambience, service and tea brewing technique is better at this Little Tokyo location. However, the quality of the loose leaf teas is very good — I regularly purchase various kinds of Chinese puerh teas from this store and brew them at home.

Comment: There are always groupons for Chado and it is a fun and different experience. This particular location is great because the outdoors area is tucked away behind bamboo by the Japanese museum. The tea sandwiches are yummy and the tea options are endless. Its great for Mothers Day, or something like that, just make a reservation.

Comment: Came here for the Afternoon Tea Tasting. Their scones were very good and putting some of their spread on top made it even better. Their sandwiches were good, but the salmon one was the best. The egg sandwich and cucumber one were just okay. Service was a little slow. I only saw two waiters with a full restaurant.

Comment: So I took my gf here for her birthday since I know how much she loves tea and I saw it on her bookmarks too =P Anyways the deal was awesome, we got to get the tier of sandwich, scones, and dessert plus a tea tasting. The food itself was okay in my book. The service was excellent and the best part of the experience! The guys did a wonderful job explaining to us about the tea and his recommendations. We have never been to a tea tasting before so this was a fun experience for the both of us. We both learned a lot about some of the teas. The tea tasting will give you 6 different types of teas to try. What a wonderful experience I had, thank you Chado Tea Room!
